That's the spirit!

@ Kizzi: Actually, for most hardcore gamers, it's easy to call it the worst video game system ever made. Let's just say they don't know what they're saying (No Nintendo Life members are included in this.).

I got the Wii a couple of weeks ago and quite like it. Haven't had a nintendo console since super nintendo since I had ps1 and ps2. Didn't like how ps3 was handled with price and dropped backwards compatibility and don't like how you have to pay extra for wifi and online play with xbox 360. I initially thought the wii was too gimmicky but with more support for traditional control method and a more diverse lineup of games having come out over time I was won over by the wii. theres a few things that could be better but overall very satisfied since there seems to be a good mix of traditional games and motion controlled games. kind of feels like an extension of the gaming I've been doing with my ps2 but with added variety.

whats good:
wifi built in
wiiware has good remakes and original games
small sized console
diverse line up of games from hardcore (shmups and fps) to casual (party and family)
free online play for games that support it
wii remote is unique and nothing like it is currently out yet

whats bad:
virtual console could include more games and have more features like online play
friend codes
size limit on wiiware
no hard drive support
wii can't handle too advanced graphics or HD
selling the wii remote and nunchuk seperate is kinda a ripoff

overall great system and good vaule with a lot of quality games for cheap. definitely not just for kids or casual gamers though that is the market that has really taken off for nintendo. I'm not really interested in most casual games and I'm not too big on most of the nintendo franchises. don't care too much for zelda, mario cart, smash bros, or mario party yet I still really like the wii.

I love the Wii, I own a Wii, 360 and DSi. The Wii get's played most of my consoles, followed by the DS then the 360. The Wii has more unique and interesting games, which is what I really want. Something different, I also enjoy these "casual" games a lot (I would call myself a hardcore gamer, though I don't like the term ). My exams have finished but during the exam period last month my "Wii ____" games got played a lot because I could easily pick them up and have a lot of fun.

Dunncor: the wii is definitely good for hardcore gamers if you consider a hardcore gamer someone who would enjoy a site like hardcore gaming 101. Someone who appreciates a wide variety of genres and series. Unfortunately those who are considered hardcore or core gamers seem to be the ones who preorder every big budget release from gamestop, and play halo or killzone obsessively. They are also very restricted in genres they will play- mostly console fps, third person action, sandbox (gta style) games, or sandbox rpgs.

The Wii is great if you like both modern and old school style gameplay. The wii is the only current gen console that has any roguelikes and if you know what I'm talking about you know they are pretty hard and hardcore. there is currently baroque and chocobo's dungeon but we're also getting shiren 3 which should be awesome. We have some great shmups like blast works (with a level editor to boot) gradius rebirth, castle shikigami 3, ultimate shooting collection. Great platformers like klonoa, wario land, lostwinds, icarian and mario. Also muramasma upcoming with platforming and 2d twitch action with some rpg elements.

of course theres also wii sports with upcoming resort, raving rabbids, de blob, house of dead games, trauma center, korinpa, that either offer something new or something that wouldn't work well on other consoles especially without some kind of expensive accessories. these are more "casual" but still well done or at least not stupid.

ps3 and xbox 360 gaming is mostly "pc gaming lite" with a few exceptions though the biggest fans of those systems are so obsessive they get labeled as hardcore.

That the Wii is still considered a toy or only for casual gamers puzzles me. Though for a while after launch that was partially true with wiiware and more third parties stepping up its definitely not true any more.

@ jbrodack: I didn't know that being a hardcore gamer requires you to restrict what genre you play. I still play video games a lot and don't preorder games, so I'll just call myself a regular gamer. Why did I call myself a hardcore gamer in the first place?

I agree with everything you said in your latest comment on this thread
