A giant cosmic banana strikes DK's world, splitting it into a light and dark dimension. The final boss of DKC revives itself as the evil Shadow Kong, and spends the game stalking you and trashing up bits of world as you get to them.
...So the final boss in the first game is a Kong? lol
He should look like Funky Kong (actually, just be Funky Kong), and be defeated Jungle Beat-style, by mashing him in the face repeatedly until your hands are tired.
