GCN playback will be an optional feature on the Wii HD. In order to play GCN games on the Wii HD, you'll need to get the GCN Interface, a Hub that has the 4 controller ports and 2 memory card slots that will plug into the rear of the Wii HD like an SD card reader. Sure this may sound horrible to those who have a big GCN collection like me. But I HATE the Wii's GCN ports on the side of the system, it's so.... meh! and fugly... At least with this little device it'll be on a cable so that you can position it where ever you want...
That would be lovely. I absolutely hate running connections through the top of the system and having to leave that plate up all the time if I want to play GC games often. Ikaruga was the only GC game I kept for long after the Wii, but as awesome as the game is, I hated seeing that plate open with a big gray Wavebird receiver sticking out the top, so I got rid of it, haha. I know, I know, what a horrible reason to trade in a game, but I'm a bit obsessive.
I'm not exactly sure what you mean, but I was referring to how Nintendo originally introduced the DS not to replace the GBA but to run alongside it and the Cube as a "third pillar." I think pillar's what they said, now that I think of it, not "tier" as I said earlier. I was suggesting that they might introduce their next console while still supporting the Wii as a safety net like they did with the GBA for the DS, since the Wii is so very successful and abandoning that audience might be too risky.
Oh, I thought you meant "tier" as in like stepping up or evolving. I wouldn't think that making a new "Wii" console would abandon an audiance, it's not like when the Super Nintendo arived, NES players felt like they were abandoned, they bought the new system! Same with iPods too, you get the 20GB, then a 60GB, then one that does video and then evantually the iPhone. There's an obvious cycle and trend to electronics. The only way that this next system would abandon existing Wii Owners were as if it had no backward compatiblity and that Nintendo scraped any form of development on the Wii. If Wii HD would appear, the saftest marketing that Nintendo would do is sell the current Wii to those who don't have or cade for HD, whilst the new Wii HD is made for those who want the next new thing or those with HDTVs. You can also make Hybrid games that can work on both machines, but provide HD graphics and new features if played on the Wii HD. Look at it like this, the GBC had the same thing, it had hybrid carts before they went onto the GBC only carts. It would be smart for Nintendo to take that route.

Wow... I thought I was bad for keeping my GCN! then again is does have a good purpose, it's still freeloader compatible, and I can still run my American game on it
Oh shi... that's it! Nintendo has to stop this Region locking nonense and allow us to play imported games! As long as it's not pirated that is, but still, curse you Nintendo for blocking my WIi Freeloader!
EDIT: Why the hell is the quote system calling you "weirdAdam"?
I understand consumer complaints about region locking, but you have to understand there are good business reasons behind this. Even the DSi is region-locked now. The different regions want to be able to sell their versions of games without having to compete with other regional branches of the same company. There are also different rating and censorship standards in different regions that legally should be protected.
Don't get me wrong. I badly want to have Muscle March and Smash Brothers 64 on my Wii, but I don't think it'll happen next generation.
Nintendo will always have some form of anti-piracy standards in place. Remember cartridges? the trick is to open the systems up to newer formats but keep everybody nice and legal somehow.
What The...... no way! If they are making the Wii 2, they need to call it something else.
Like I mentioned above, the next system is more likly going to be a new step to the Wii. And since Miyamoto said it'll output HD and uses HDMI, I'm going to just call it Wii HD.
Allow the Wii to open files from the SD. Pause while playing a game, go to the Wii menu, check something out, then go back to your game and continue playing. Do something while waiting for the download on the Wii shop Channel on the wii.

?!
Link please, when did he say that.

That's the problem, I can't find the article about it, IGN talked to Miyamoto about future plans and he starts talking about what the next system will be like. I'll try to find it. But I've tried to look for it before and failed...
I remember reading something like this very early in the Wii's shelf life. I pulled up something earlier where he talked about how Japan is soon switching over exclusively to HD broadcasting, which strongly implies that the next console will have to adapt to that, but he didn't say it as outright as in the article I remember. I'll keep the search going.
