This is of course assuming that you're one of the millions of people that's going to be purchasing a Wii U. As near as I can tell, save for the fact that the Wii can play Gamecube discs, it offers nothing else that the Wii U can't duplicate(please correct me if i'm wrong here). However, simply trying to sell your old Wii for cheap creates an interesting and even troublesome situation. This being that MOST Wii U owners will want to keep the various accessories for use on their new Wii U's; ie, the Wiimotes, nunchucks, classic controllers, etc. But that then makes selling your Wii a more difficult proposition... Afterall, who wants to buy a used video game console on eBay(or wherever else...) without the necessary controllers?

What are you guys planning to do? I'm still at a loss myself...

I'd just started considering this question (Wii U ordered for Xmas) and am also at a loss. As far as I'm concerned, the purpose of the Wii is to run Wii Fit, I don't have the slightest interest in "games". I might end up giving/selling it to one of the various friends and relatives who've also expressed an interest in Wii Fit - they'd still have to buy their own balance board, but it's saving them a bit of the cost. I haven't started looking at prices, though.

Move it up to my bedroom and use it as a Gamecube.

Not a fan of the process, to lazy to do it.

Ah you sound like me lol.

The only reason I am thinking about transferring it over is cause the area I have for my current gen systems is very limited on space for A Nintendo console, Xbox 360, Blu-Ray player and a satellite box. Now the area that I have my retro systems set up is another story which is where my Wii will be going once my son opens up the Wii U. The only thing is how often I would want to play the VC games and or Wii games that I prefer a GC controller to play and if it would warrent me going to my retro cave to do so.

Keeping my Wii and cables in a clear plastic bag on top of my wardrobe along side my Nes, Snes, N64, and GameCube.

Edit: Looks like my Wii is coming out of retirement since my Wii U froze during the recent update and bricked. So unlucky.

Sell it for £30 probably. Or whatever Game can give me for it.

I've transfered everything off of it and I have a Gamecube for Gamecube games, so I have no need for it.

Unless, of course a sibling or my mum wants it - same thing happened with my DSi. I was poised to sell it to Game for £40 trade-in when I got my first 3DS, but my brother expressed an interest in it and so I've had to keep hold of it for a few months until a time when he is able to visit.

I'm keeping it. I love the system, and have fond memories playing great games on it, just as I do with all my other past systems I keep. Don't plan on transferring its data to my Wii U when I get one either. I'll probably keep it on top of the Wii U so i can swap between them easily.

Wii is my last Nintendo console and I intend to use it for GC, Wii games, VC and WiiWares. Other than that, probably weather and Nintendo channels that I use mostly.

Probably give it to my girlfriend since her Wii was stolen when burglars broke in her house. And I still have my Gamecube so I'll be able to play all of my games (GC/Wii/Wii U) just fine.

keep it, though my Wii has so much trouble reading Gamecube discs. I still have an actual Gamecube, though

I'll keep it to:
1) Play GCN games.
2) To play Wii games that are not playable on the Wii U (for example Dance Dance Revolution).
3) I'm not even sure if I'll do the system transfer because that means playing Brawl without GCN controllers, and forcing me to buy Classic Controllers to play VC games (for example, I own Mario Party 2 that require 4 controllers... and I use my 4 GCN controllers.
