Topic: The Original Xbox is more powerful than the Wii...

I recently looked at the specs of both system and noticed something...

The Xbox Original is more powerful than the Wii, a supposedly current gen console. Isn't that strange?

Most would reply with "graphics aren't everything" but processing power does not have much to do with graphics, but more to do with the gameplay... Does anything think the Wii can run GTAIV? No. Why? Because the Wii simply cannot process the physics engine nor the amount of people allowed on screen. With a low powered system comes low quality gameplay. I have both a Wii and PS3 and I was surprised just how drastic it was when I got a PS3... It's like with the Wii I was still playing with my gamecube but then with the PS3 I leaped forward.

Thing is that since the Wii has so much less processing power it can't run great games like Red Dead Redemption or Battlefield 3... It just simply can't. It has nothing to do with graphics it's just because the Wii can't run the huge map that Red Dead Redemption has or run the chaos that goes on in Battlefield 3.

What do you guys think?

Who cares about the Wii anymore? Its on its last heart and is about get pushed out of the way for the brand spanking new Wii U.

I play Monster Hunter and Tekken Tag Tournament 2 pretty frequently when I'm not working.

And even the Wii U's rumored to be specs aren't all that ahead of the current gen consoles

What source(s) did you get the specs from? Unless the Xbox is at least twice the power of the GameCube, it's not more powerful than the Wii. And I'm pretty sure the Xbox, GameCube, and even PS2 were comparable power-wise. Even if the Xbox is more powerful than the Wii, more processing power doesn't equal a more successful console. The Wii may be the least powerful console this generation, but it has sold nearly twice the PS3's sales worldwide and 1.5 times the Xbox's sales. The PS2 was the least powerful console of its generation, and it blew the Xbox and GameCube out of the water sales-wise.
Oh and nearly everything so far about the Wii U's specs is just a rumor, so it can't really be trusted. Especially since we know basically nothing about the Xbox 720's specs and different reports put the Wii U anywhere from 6 times less powerful to only 20% less powerful than the Xbox 720.

If the 3DS has not been discontinued SM3DL and MK7 are awesome games, but if the 3DS has been discontinued Sony has taken over the world. It is not true that both Sony has taken over the world and SM3DL and MK7 are not awesome games. Therefore:Super Mario 3D Land and Mario Kart 7 are...

Sales don't mean anything. When I got my Wii I expected that it would destroy the competition gameplay wise and it ended up getting destroyed

Well thats like, your opinion man.
I personally love my Wii better than any other system. I had my 360 for 4 years and it crapped out on me in the 3rd year, yet I've had my Wii since launch and the little guy still work like it did from day one.

You enjoyed the Wii's gameplay more than the Xbox 360's? O_O. If so that is the first time i've ever heard that

Why did I know you were going to say that? Sales certainly do mean something. Every sale is a customer who supports the console. In other words, there are nearly twice as many people who like the Wii than people who like the PS3. Also "destroying the competition gameplay wise" is a subjective term; it depends on what sort of games you like. If you don't like the Wii's games, that's fine, but you can't just go ahead and say that the Wii "got destroyed" gameplay wise. Not to mention that "destroying the competition" is also a subjective term, it depends on what you would consider "destroying" the competition.

Haha, first time you've ever heard that? Anywhere from 33 million to 100 million people enjoy the Wii's gameplay more than the Xbox 360's, depending on how many people who bought a Wii also bought an Xbox 360 (I'm assuming that anyone who bought a Wii but not an Xbox 360 prefers the Wii over the 360, which isn't 100% accurate, but I'm pretty sure it's close enough.)
Edit #2: nevermind, @LordLz said it all

I love Nintendo in general and I enjoyed the gamecube last gen AND the N64 the gen before that. Then I got the Wii... The games simply are not the same... Horsez 2 is definitely not my type of game. I love all of Nintendo's handhelds though, but the Wii was a complete failure in my eyes. Sales don't reflect rather someone supports the system... Most of the Wii sales went to casual gamers who let the Wii get dusty until a party is announced. Now the REAL way of testing the amount of supports and actual gamers are usually the amount of system connected to the internet. Most current day gamers enjoy recieving updates for their system and getting virtual console games... And guess what? only 54 percent of Wii consoles are connected to the internet... While 78 percent of PS3s are connected- go figure

Yes I enjoyed it WAY more than the 360, maybe its because I like the whole point and click with games and stuff, maybe its because I am a huge Nintendo Fan. Either way I found the Xbox kinda boring, though when I first got it my Wii collected dust but then I got bored of it VERY quickly. It just wasn't very appealing, once I got past the whole OH EM GEE HD, it was bland, the only thing that kept me interested was Banjo Kazooie and Banjo Tooie.

Was that before or after the multiple hackings to the PSN?

LOL, that's the most hilarious thing I've heard in a week. If you don't like the Wii, that's fine, but saying it's a complete failure? Do you live under a rock or something?

I admit that the Wii's online is a joke compared to the PS3's and 360's but that's not the point. In fact, the original topic of this thread as set forth by you in your very own OP was if the Xbox was more powerful than the Wii. (and how the Wii U's power compares to the other next-gen consoles.) To answer that question, could you provide your source for the Wii's and Xbox's specs? And we can't say anything about the Wii U yet, all of it is just speculation so far. Do I need to repeat myself any further, or do you actually understand what I'm saying?

There was only two major hacking attacks... One was on PSN by Anonymous (Largest hacker organization in the entire world) and the other was by Geohot, who simply made it possible to run homebrew games. And do you really think that people actually simply stopped getting online after the attack? They paid 300$ for the system and all of the sudden don't want to get online anymore? -_-.

Okay, you're either trolling, or just REALLY ignorant. This is NINTENDO Life. I'm pretty sure most everyone here prefers the Wii over the 360. And I don't know where you're getting your information, but since the Wii is about twice as powerful as the GCN, I'm pretty sure it's quite a bit more powerful than the XBox, too...

You could also cook things on top of the Xbox, so that's cool too.

Oh oh, and the original controller was perfectly shaped for bludgeoning people to death.

I guess the Xbox really is better.

There can only be one, like in that foreign movie where there could only be one, and in the end there is only one dude left, because that was the point.

Originally, the topic came up in this thread: http://thewiiu.com/topic/958-was-the-original-xbox-more-power...

Then I looked up both specs for both system and turns out, the guy is right! The Wii's GPU is better than the Xbox's in some aspects but other than that, the Xbox was slightly more powerful than the Wii in just about everything else. I do not feel like pulling up the wikipedia links for both the Xbox and the Wii, just check out the thread.
