I wonder if Nintendo's "Next Gen" graphics will actually be on par with current gen (PS3 & 360).

No way. It's not 1991 anymore and huge system specs don't equal big sales. I imagine Nintendo will take things in an unexpected direction... maybe not so unexpected.

Yes, and there's a good chance the next generation Sony and Microsoft consoles will still be more powerful, but after the disappointing horsepower of the Wii, I think Nintendo needs to at least clearly surpass the "previous generation" PS3 & X360 to have at least decent credibility among hardcore gamers.

Ash: Professor Oak, how's your Bulbasaur?
Prof. Oak: Oh, it only hurts when I sit.

Prof. Oak: It's only Chansey if Krabby won't let go. Bye, now.
Ash: I don't think I'm going to call him anymore.

After the Wii's success I don't see Nintendo being overly concerned about horsepower or hardcore credibility. Besides, having a console with enough power to rival Xbox 360 and PS3 so they can start a tug o' war over hardcore gamers would seem to go against their Blue Ocean Strategy. Nintendo also seems to be obsessed with Apple and their business model, not with Microsoft or Sony.

Picture this:

You have a small cube. To start it you push the button on the top. Lazers shoot out in all directions (about a 5-10) foot radius. The lazers have a sensor that sense your movements: No need for a controller.

A little hard to explain, but an interactive hologram is what I'm trying to say...

  • All current VC and WiiWare games available now in the Wii Shop still available at launch of next system.
  • Ability to transfer all of your downloads onto the next console.
  • I'd like to see N64 games already available on the VC improved upon by adding controller pak and rumble support.
  • Wii Shop completely revamped and possibly weekly sales and promotions.
  • Continued backwards compatibility of Wii and Gamecube games, and keeping Gamecube controller ports and memory card slots.
  • A hard drive at least 20 GB.
  • Graphics at least on par with the PS3 or 360.
  • A friends list that allows you to talk to them at any point and see what games they are playing.
  • Gamecube and Wii games added to the VC.
  • Find a way to implement online multiplayer into VC games without drastically chaging the original game. Emulators today can do online multiplayer of classic console games by tricking the computer into thinking it is being played on one system.

Well, the VC was probably the biggest reason why I bought the Wii, and how they handle it on the next console will be a deciding factor in purchasing Nintendo's next console.

so the 3rd party developers can (mostly) make generic sequels and FPSs, yippee.

I've had more fun with games in the past 2 years than I've had since I was a kid, I'd rather not have butthurt 12 year olds pretending their gaming is the only "real" gaming ruin that.

Perfect 1:1 motion controls for both hands. And of course obvious stuff like improved graphics, backwards compatibility and WiiWare/VC transfer, lol.

You mean you want Nintendo to be behind again?

You'd have to be a ninja to play games on that system.

I stopped being impressed by graphics years ago, possibly because I always tended to stick with the "weaker" systems, but mostly because I realized that a game with a great artistic style that's fun to play is far more impressive than hyper-realism. Even now with the "best" that PSX360 have to offer, besides the fact that I have no interest in any of them (the ONLY games I'm sad about missing out on are The Last Guardian and Child of Eden), I don't understand why people go nuts over them when the characters still (for the most part) look and sound just as awkward as way back when modeling characters out of polygons was still a new idea. Even with the most realistic game, if you had the controller to me I'll always find a way to ruin the illusion.

All I care about in a Wii successor is that it will motivate developers to keep trying to come up with new things instead of just trying to rehash old ideas but in fancier packages. Also, I'd like for it to be able to make tacos, too.

■All current VC and WiiWare games available now in the Wii Shop still available at launch of next system.

They should use the same shop but it would be revamped. Games come out on both Wii 1 and Wii 2 simultaneously, however some games may be Wii 2 exclusive. There may also be Wii 2 exclusive Virtual Console games - later NeoGeo games, later arcade games and perhaps ports of PS1 games (if the XBOX 360 can have Castllevania SotN then so should Nintendo).

■Ability to transfer all of your downloads onto the next console.

I'd do this via a one-way transfer to a single Wii 2 console. You would be able to gift your downloaded Wii 1 games to a Wii 2 console of your choice the same way as you gift people games from the WiiShop now but in doing so, it ties that Wii 2 to your Wii 1; you would not be able to send your Wii 1 games to any other Wii 2 console. Also, you would not be able to download the game on Wii 1 unless you purchase it again.

■I'd like to see N64 games already available on the VC improved upon by adding controller pak and rumble support.

Yes, Nintendo would have no excuse to not implement them this time. Existing N64 games on the Virtual Console would be able to use those features if they could originally on the N64 at no extra charge. This would also allow other N64 games that depended on the controller pak to save progress to be released.

■Continued backwards compatibility of Wii and Gamecube games, and keeping Gamecube controller ports and memory card slots.

Unlikely. There is a reason that Nintendo ceased to continue producing DS consoles without the GBA slot. It just makes the system more expensive. Instead, the Wii 2 would likely have Gamecube support for the VC.

■Gamecube and Wii games added to the VC.

Yes. XBOX 360 allows you to download XBOX 360 retail games so the Wii 2 should allow you to download Wii 1 titles too.

Edgey, Gumshoe, Godot, Sissel, Larry, then Mia, Franziska, Maggie, Kay and Lynne.

I'm throwing my money at the screen but nothing happens!

Nintendo will make (with Sharp) a brand new console with an amazing 3D screen included. It will look like a LED TV but the console will be inside the TV (like ones with a DVD player inside). Of course the 3D glasses won't be necessary (as 3DS). And the most interesting game list on earth:

Pikmin 4 (Pikmin 3 will be for 3DS)
Super Mario Galaxy 3
Metroid Other M : Samus Daughter .

and many more !

I think it would be really epic if Nintendo brought back the cartridges for their next home console; they could call it the "Super Wii."

geek-master

is it just me or do i have a feeling nintendo is going to take up on the ARM cortex or the AMD FUSION chipset?
now this is just a prediction but i think the next wii will sport a SSD to boot the OS.
i think blueray is more of sony's type of thing. i meen nintendo could go double layered again but i dont think that will happen. nintendo would tell us if they want a DVD compatible format for watching movies but they have a strong standing point on netflix.

now to the controler. i think it will be motion based with a gyroscope and accelerometer ect but nintendo loves their hardcore fans so they might lean towards the setup of the ps3's duel shock controler with the gyro built in.
nintendo could completley offer 2 sperate remotes which being one for motion and one for normal gameplay but they know the consumer better than i do so they will likely stick with one controler.

This is ground control to major Tom, you've really made the grade. And the papers want to know whose shirts you wear
Now it's time to leave the capsule if you dare

A new Super Smash Bros. is what I want on Nintendo's next console- to be honest, HD or not. I really REALLY don't care.

Whatever they do, I'm sure they'll go even further into their current trend of using (for want of a better word,) common technology in unique ways.

I wouldn't mind some kind of device that does the "3D" effect like that programmer did in the Youtube vid by having reflective paper facing the remote. Can't remember his name. Anyway, a small bluetooth headset worn on the ear would do. That way you could possible have looking and aiming separate in a FPS.
