Who else on Nintendo Life is really exited about The Last Story? Of course all we have to go by is the development website, all in Japanese, but something about the name, the music, the concept art and Satoru Iwata's comment that Mistwalker are seeking to create "a new form of RPG by choosing the universal theme of human emotion" all adds up to this seeming like something special indeed.
"I had to take the young general, I couldn't turn out the holy man, I couldn't stop the wind from blowing and the air from being as clear as crystal; and I couldn't hide the mountain."
Yer, really hyped. I'm pretty confident about a western release as well!

I don't know if this is the thread to continue discussing The Last Story (it's so hard to search the forums!), but there's a new trailer out. It's mostly cutscenes but it looks very impressive: http://kotaku.com/5668371/the-last-storys-new-trailer
There are trailers out with gameplay segments too.
Game looks sooooo good.... facial animation is top notch.
characters all look interesting too.

Hurray! New trailer for Last Story. So what's the deal with that shirtless adventurer in the bar, what's her story? Her boobs don't look natural when she lifts her arm, they look like implants to me- I thought this was going to be a fantasy game. How come they have that sort of technology?
I don't care, it looks awesome. way better than FFXIII. The characters looks well developed, and I don't know about the story, but the gameplay look amazing to. When this comes out, if I'm not too busy with college, I'm getting this.
Lieutenant Commander of the Lesbian Love Brigade
There can only be one, like in that foreign movie where there could only be one, and in the end there is only one dude left, because that was the point.

How can you tell the characters are well developed just by looking?
You're right, I don't know. I'm just being overly optimistic. How can I not be? The Wii hasn't had that significant of an RPG yet, and this brings hope.

I wouldn't say they are well developed in a story sense without having played. But it's not hard to see, that they are well modeled and animated. Especially the facial animations during in-game cutscenes are outstanding so far. So it's not hard to tell, that the effort being put into this, is that of a high quality title. For all we know (without understanding Japanese), the characters might the most superficial and clichéd ever to haunt an RPG, but at least they look good at it.
I'm looking forward to it, but I'm more concerned about Xenoblade myself. It looks more my thing, and its developer has a far better track record than Mistwalker's, whom have consistantly disappointed me from the onset.
