tell your cousin to enjoy his or her eventual RRoD, then... :3
seriously, though, have your cousin call Nintendo's customer service line; they've already promised to repair bricked Wiis that have never had any mods done to them/installed on them for free.

I updated and I had no problems.
People who use the Homebrew Channel, that's your problem. Yes, this includes Chatham and SuperSonic1990 (If he has the Homebrew Channel).

@SSBFan1999: actually, this problem is being reported to affect users that have nothing to do with homebrew or modding their Wiis. that's what's behind the furor, the fact that completely uninterested parties are being drawn into the crossfire between Nintendo and piracy (though not all people who install homebrew on their Wiis also pirate games, but that's another argument for another thread). :3

@SSBF1999My Wii works just fine, thank you. And can yours play any-region game? DVDs? DVD-Rs? GBA games? Didn't think so.... I think my hacked 4.X will suffice better than anything Ninty rolls out from here on.
BTW guys, if you have homebrew, there is a workaround to get access to the shop channel again.edit: mentioning the workaround exists is one thing, but mentioning where to get it is another.

Hey, hey! Easy with the piracy talks! Getting around isn't the priority right now, it's for people who were affected!
My local arcade here in Jamaica has about 95% of their Wii consoles with the Homebrew Channel. They're on top of the 4.2 news so they know updating = death.
I saw one of their 360s with the RROD....

Doesen't it mainly happen to people with HBChannel, I Have never even did anything near hacking any of my consoles, I still haven't updated, should I?

You shoud. if something hapens to your UNMODIFIED console, nintendo will pay for it
33. Posted: Fri 2nd Oct 2009 02:11 BST
Not updating anymore. Definitely not.
Will they replace your Wii Shop Account? Will they replace ANYTHING else? Or just the console?

Wow. Everyone's scared. Non-homebrewers and homebrewers alike! I guess only 4.3 can save us all! (Except homebrewers. I_I)

Well, I don't want my console losing everything it has. I have 26 downloads, I don't want to pay for them again given the worst case scenario.

I didn't see anything about the Wii system update doing any harm to the system until after I updated it! I've tried Animal Crossing, and a few other games, I've gotten lucky so far, and had no issues yet. But I'll try a few more just to be sure...
39. Posted: Fri 2nd Oct 2009 04:05 BST
Its not harming all wii consoles and mostly if it hasn't bricked your console you should be alright. However, it is bricking enough consoles that it shows nintendo really should have tested out the patch better before distributing it.

I think it is easy to say that this update was the stupidest idea from Nintendo ever. This update appears to be affecting both non-modded and modded Wiis. This is the first time I have ever heard of a update that can possibly BRICK your Wii. As for the Homebrew Channel, I only use it for emulating older games.
