I personally loved them both, but I always liked Sunshine a little better. It had an incredible hub world and the general atmosphere of the game is just fantastic. The FLUDD wasn't great, but I don't think it made the game worse in any way. However, I haven't played it in around 4 years, so maybe if I played it now I would have different feelings. Super Mario 64 is still my favorite 3D Mario, though.

Why would the DS version be lower, it was portable and more stars, better graphics, better controls, and more caracters. :(

Super Mario Galaxy is by far my most favorite 3D Mario game. I love the gameplay, music, and the unique graphic style. I also really like the other Mario games I listed, but they just don't compare to Galaxy.

Super Mario Galaxy 2 looks really impressive that it might be even better then it’s predecessor, but we'll have to see that when I receive my preorder from Gamestop.:)

Because I did not like the choices they made with all the characters. I did not like having to hunt down a cap or leave a level to go to one of their rooms for a specific character just so I can get to a certain area or use a power-up. It was just very annoying to me. The original N64 version did not do that, so it’s a better game because of it.

Sure, SM64DS has better graphics, more levels, and more stars to collect, but those reasons alone doesn’t help make it any better than the original.

The original also has Analog control which makes a huge difference. And you know, the N64 analog felt more complex to use rather than the analog sticks we have of today. The N64's stick was stiffer and it was easier to make Mario slowly walk, creep, run ect ect, it had more precision. Nintendo makes the best analog sticks, and while I love the nuncuck analog stick, it's still not as good as the N64 stick. If anything Sony makes the WORST analogs. Talk about loose...It might as well just be a d-pad.

Well, it is not an easy choice, that is for sure.
Both are great games, and have made it into my favorites. Galaxy was very clever and fun, and different from the others. I mean come on. NO ONE had ever thought of space for a game. On the other hand, Sunshine abandon us on a strange island with a little device. Galaxy was definitly too easy, but Sunshine was too hard for the blue coins. I felt that Galaxy could have done better, but was extremely good already. The only problem with sunshine were those dumb camera angles, and those dumb blue coins. I felt that the bosses in Galaxy were funner and more interesting, but hte final boss was a FAIL. Sunshine was the exact opposite. You basically faught the exact same bosses over and over, but the final boss was awesome.
Personally I have to go with Galaxy as a better game, but Sunshine as a better challenge.

It's actually quite hard to choose. Sunshine is great because I have great memories growing up with it and it has a superior hub. On the other hand, Super Mario Galaxy has a far superior story, superior graphics and a WAY BIGGER variety for levels(Sunshine had only tropical places). I don't know which to choose.

Don't tread on me..

I never really played SM64 on its original platform, I was talking about the VC version with the Gamecube controller. Which by the way works very well with the game, especially compared to the controls in the DS version (it’s NOT bad, just not great either).

They are very, very, close, but I have a slight preference towards Sunshine.

Cute, but untrue. Galaxy severely limited the player's control over the camera, and all but completely did away with Sunshine's knack for huge, exploration based levels. Galaxy was also significantly easier--even going for 100% with both characters wasn't much of a challenge. Just time consuming.

Anyway, Galaxy is still one of the greatest platformers ever made. I just happen to like Sunshine more.

I'll take limited control over a functional camera than total control over a busted one.

Point taken about the exploration of levels, though. I personally love what Mario Galaxy does to usher you through levels in a predetermined way without it feeling limiting, but there's no question that it IS limiting, and that leads to a very different gameplay experience. It's just one I enjoy, I guess.

Opinions are opinions.
Galaxy didn't limited the camera. It perfected it so you wouldn't get screwed over by a bad camera angle that always occurred in Sunshine. Sunshine had a huge exploration because you virtually went through the same level all ten times, while Galaxy added a whole new area to the round you've never seen coming. Good Egg Galaxy, that honey one, and others (I haven't played the game in months :P ).

Galaxy wasn't "so easy I beat it in a weekend..." Easier than Sunshine? Yeah. Still difficult? Yes. Sunshine's difficulty was so frustrating. All those bullcrap deaths I received from the horrible camera angles or better yet FLUDD's controls where you had to spray his nozzle from a first person perspective (by holding down the R button all the way). Very clunky.
And it wasn't time consuming. It was replay value. ;)

Plus Super Mario Galaxy 2 is going to wipe both of them off the boards, so... yeah.

Thank you. Whatever happened to actual tension and resistance in analog sticks? I despise the ridiculously loose ones that dominate most systems today, where the distance you push it has become nearly irrelevant; all anyone does it keep it to the edge of its range and move within that widest circle.

Sunshine or Galaxy? SUNSHINE!!!

Super Mario Sunshine:
The pros:
The "vacation" theme of this game was very relaxing. I personally enjoyed it because it is a great way to break the ice for a new adventure. The island was simply gorgeous. It was cool adventuring as Mario on a tropical island introducing all new residents (Piantas and Nokis), enemies, gameplay mechanics, etc. I think Sunshine was revolutionary for Nintendo. EVERYTHING was fresh (even the fruit)!

The cons:
The worst part about this entire game was that it ended. The island was huge but only a few specific locations could be reached, which gets on my nerves. FLUDD was cool and so were his nozzles, but he did talk rather a LOT! The free camera control was awesome in some places, simply horrible in others. I'm not sure about the full narrative during cutscenes. It seemed cool but didnt play out well in terms of the type of game. If one can talk, they all should talk. If one talked once, he should talk at all times. The cliffhanger at the end was brilliant, however leaving it literally hanging like that was torture for the fans of the game (which we were hoping would become a series).

What could improve upon a sequel:
I think if Nintendo ever did a sequel I would like to see it on the same island, HOWEVER using the fullness of the island to keep it fresh. I would like to see these added to the map (along with the original locations): Peach Beach, Delfino Square, and Delfino Docks (plus new locations as well). All of these places are located somewhere on Isle Delfino. It'd be cool to actually remap them onto the isle itself. Piantissimo would, of course, have to be the main antagonist. Maybe a partnership with Bowser for a twist. Luigi MUST come this time. As far as Yoshi and fruit goes, here is an idea:

Yoshi (green) – this Yoshi can eat anything and run faster than Mario. Eat different fruits to change Yoshi’s color and powers. If Yoshi is hit, he begins running in peril. If he gets hit while running, he returns to his egg. When Yoshi eats a fruit, the stomach meter begins decreasing. When it reaches empty, the Yoshi returns back to green.

Yoshi (pink) – eat a coconut to ride this Yoshi. It is light and can jump higher/fall slower.

Yoshi (purple) – eat a durian to ride this Yoshi. It can walk on spikes and take damage before running.

Yoshi (yellow) – eat a mango to ride this Yoshi. When it jumps, the ground shakes, knocking over any nearby enemies. When it ground pounds, it causes a tremor, killing any nearby enemies.

Yoshi (red) – eat a hot pepper to ride this Yoshi. It can breath fire and is fire resistant.

Yoshi (orange) – eat a pineapple to ride this Yoshi. It can spit magical juice.

Yoshi (light blue) – eat blue coral to ride this Yoshi. It is aquatic.

Yoshi (pale) – eat a banana to ride this Yoshi. It is slippery and can shape-shift.

So yeah. I think that'd be cool. I also think it should be 2-4 players as well having Mario, Luigi, all the toads, a Noki, and a Pianta being playable. I think there should be new nozzles as well:

Squirtnozzle - allows FLUDD to squirt a stream of water forwards.

Hovernozzle - allows FLUDD to hover with slight incline for 5 seconds.

Rocketnozzle - allows FLUDD to skyrocket high up in the air.

Turbonozzle - allows FLUDD to zoom at high speeds and even on water.

Copternozzle - allows FLUDD to do a high jump and glide.

Blasternozzle - allows FLUDD to shoot water bullets to great distances.

Also perhaps the ability to venture on to the surrounding islands (I remember one being the shape of a crab in the opening sequence of the game). Also maybe even being able to get to the varying locations without using pipes and graffiti portals (and canons lol). IDK, just a bunch of ideas.

I would talk about Galaxy, but we all know Galaxy was great and they already had a sequel. So...yeah. I still prefer Sunshine tho.

Sunshine deserves a sequel. It broke the platfroming cliche of having every world based on an element. (fire, water, trees, etc.) FLUDD was a fun gameplay addition, Bowser Jr.'s introduction in this game was a genuine twist, and for the first time (of the main series games) told an actual story;" Mario framed!" " Who is this mysterious Shadow Mario?" All with full voiceovers! Alot more interesting than just the same old "Peach is captured randomly, go save her!" plot Nintendo just keeps resorting to now.

Traveling to Galaxies is fun and all, but I want to see Isle Delfino again.
