Wow, Eurogamer gave it a 10/10? Im suprised they didn't give it an 8, since they have to be different than everybody else. That's crazy SMG2 has got a 98. Im guessing all reviews are in?
I'm only maybe five stars in, rented it today. Please tell me the inane Luma dialog between levels ceases some time soon. I wish I could choose to bypass the ridiculously pointless starship and just go straight to the map between levels.
It ceases, Adam. Well, not ceases...but drops off significantly. It won't be long (if any longer) before he's just reporting significant things you might wish to investigate.

Nintendo Power's isn't. And seeing as the magazine is called Nintendo Power, you don't really have to guess at the score...
Someone sell me on this game. I've never liked 3D Mario games much, so I want to know what I'm missing out on with SMG2. I don't have SMG1 either. I'm not sure if I'd enjoy SMG2 or just leave it on the shelf.
you can always try a demo version at your local Gamestop or Best Buy (if they've changed it over from NSMBW). I'd say if you didn't like SMG, though, you probably won't like SMG2 either, considering it's more of the same so far (but in a great way). :3
I beg to disagree. I didn't like the first one, but i love the second one :3
Oh. My. God. This. Game. Is. Hard. I've been trying to do Supermassive Galaxy's Big Wiggler Speed Run for like an hour. I have the max amount of Star Bits, and I always get right to the end before I die. It's so annoying, but I can't put it down....
The Game.
Is it after 9PM EST? You should probably ignore the above post.
Since I know everyone is dying for my impressions, here's what I think so far (just made it to World 3).
Starship Mario is so pointless, gaudy, and generally a horrible idea that I am certain B Plus somehow had a hand in it.
That fat Luma is an annoying waste of time and an even worse character than the Delfino. I would gladly trade him for Galaxy 1's boring hub. Wastes about the same amount of time.
Though the checkpoint system is a nice addition, each level so far seems to use this plus the catapult stars (whatever they're called) as an excuse to link completely random level pieces together and call it a level.
The power-ups are somehow even worse than Galaxy 1's. And that includes Yoshi, who is essentially now a dinosaur-shaped power-up, made even worse by the fact that you constantly have to have the controller pointed at the screen, limiting your options for how you sit in relation to the TV.
Unless there is a giant difficulty curve halfway through the game, I have to believe that everyone got so caught up in Nintendo's hype that they've convinced themselves this is somehow difficult. Still not far enough to judge though.
And worst of all, tiny planetoids are still not fun. The controls get all screwed up, as does the camera, and it's just a headache for the sake of a gimmick.
Like I've found in all the 3D Mario games, the single objective galaxies (or just levels, in Sunshine and 64) are still by far the best and seem to me what Mario should be doing. It makes me wonder why someone doesn't take these kind of short, pure 3D platforming levels and make them into like a 3D version of Meatboy / Jumper / N / what-have-you.
I don't know why you require an arbitrary number of differences, but the main differences are the obvious ones: Yoshi, new power-ups, the world map, Starship Mario, and the purple Luma (replacing Rosalina as your guide to the game).

I didn't think the first four worlds were difficult aside from the hidden stars and comets. The fifth and sixth worlds are where the difficulty curves
Seems like a lot of unnecessary quotage. But thanks, that's good to know. I wish it didn't take that long to get challenging, but I've got the game until Saturday, so hopefully that's time enough to see World 5 at least.
