The Super Guide hint system that made its debut in New Super Mario Bros. Wii will return for Super Mario Galaxy 2 but Nintendo are looking at using it differently.
In New Super Mario Bros., you were shown a video guide when you failed on a course eight times in a row, yet as Nintendo's Bill Trinen told Game Trailers TV, Nintendo are exploring new ways of using it for the Galaxy sequel.
"I really loved it [the Super Guide], they used it a couple of ways in New Super Mario Bros. Wii," said Nintendo's Senior manager of Product Marketing. "This time around they're looking at trying to find a way to take advantage of it, maybe improve on, maybe something a little different than what was done in New Super Mario Bros. Wii. But I think it's something that you can look forward to."
"They say video games are bad for you? That's what they said about rock n' roll."
good. i think this is a great feature. i've yet to have it pop up in NSMBWii, but there have been innumerable games where i've wished it had because for the life of me i just COULDN'T finish them and i wanted to. i think this gives everyone a chance, so it should become a gaming staple.

it really annoys me. i have to be careful not to die 8 times in a row or else it'll pop up and i won't get that star by my file... if they're putting it in again, i want the option to turn it off. if i want to be shown how to do something, i'll check gamefaqs.

Meh. Don't really care. While I agree with what TBD said, it's not a huge issue.

This might actually sell me the game. I actually liked Super Mario Galaxy, but the shadow races really pissed me off (not something gamefaqs is going to cure either, as it's just down to platforming skill which I clearly lack), so anything that can get me past that sort of rubbish is welcome. Still unlikely to buy it at launch as with the first one though.
This really doesn't make a difference to me. There were definetely some unbearably hard levels in the first one (having to fight the Fiery Dino Pirahna with only one health point stands out to me), but I eventually got through them all. But I don't think it makes much of a difference to me if they use it or not.

I think and hope that they don't allow you to finish a level with the super guide. Say, it takes you to a halfway point, or shows you a technique to help you.

I'm just like, I just, I know, it's bad

And can you go a little faster?!
If the Super Guide is something they are going to impliment more from now on, it would be nice if there was a way to tie it into your Mii so you could use it or not. That way you can use it or not without having to always go to the options menu. Say, have your Mii holding what looks like a strategy guide if you want to use it or not have it if you don't.

I agree... the shadow ones were pretty difficult sometimes, and the daredevil with certain bosses was annoying.. I don't really dig difficulty in games. there's a fun line between difficulty which is still fun and frustration that takes the fun out. while mario is supposed to be fun, when it's difficult it's not fun anymore. they should do easy/medium/hard difficulty levels. an optional guide idea is a cool nintendo idea though.
So ends a saga older than time itself. The World's oldest and fiercest army has been led to victory, and a lost generation is delivered from its fear of extinction. As the sun sets over the field of conflict the dinosaurs disperse, hoping never to set foot in this place a...

You could die 100 times in a level, but if you don't ever actually hit the block, you can still get all stars. And I'm pretty sure (but not positive), that even if yo do hit it, you can still go back and do it on your own and still get 5 stars. =3
But I think the Super Guide is a good idea. It basically gives Nintendo permission to make the games harder, yet still cater to the people that don't have as much practice at Mario games.

i read someplace that even seeing the block makes you unable to get that star. i don't want to risk it :/

Agh I'd forgotten about that.
Anyway, this sounds like a great idea to me. The parts of SMG that I really hated were in some of the open plan levels, when I couldn't figure out where to go. It really irritates me, I don't enjoy being made to think about games. If a super guide can help alleviate some of that frustration then I'm all for it.

I have 5 stars on my file, and I saw the guide pop up a few times. I just didnt use it.
I had no real trouble getting 120 stars in Galaxy 1, but they might be making this one harder, like they did with NSMBW (which I also had no REAL trouble with, getting my five shiny stars handily). Sooo...they can put it in if they want. I mostly likely won't even see it.
