Wow, that first sequence break is nice. Never crossed my mind to use shooting to slow descent. Wish I could figure out the timing for bomb jump though. Looks very difficult. I wrote it off as soon as I realized there was a height cap, but using it to cross gaps is really clever. I wonder if it can reasonably be sustained infinitely? If so, it'd allow you to cross space jump gaps, which might lead to crazy stuff.

I'm really excited to see where this sequence breaking and speed running leads. The only issue with the game is the loading times when you start moving too quickly. Happened to me a lot today when I was getting all the missile tanks.

Yea, there was one pick-up I got using shinespark where I'd have to wait through a load time right before hitting A. It was a bit frustrating. Of course, very soon after I got the space jump and realized that shinesparking wasn't the intended way to get the pick-up, haha. Whoops.

I remember shinesparking up to a few pick-ups entirely by accident (they weren't marked on the map yet), most notably one in Sector 2. Also, the only times I remember running into loading screens were when I made my way to a door too fast and in some elevators...

Does anyone know if you get anything for beating the game on hard mode? And since I hear there are no item pickups in hard mode, then I suppose there is no such thing as beating it 100%

@Edwin: The only thing I can think of that might be given as a reward for beating Hard mode would be either more pages for the art gallery or some secret videos for the video gallery (since there's three empty slots on the last page).

@Kid_A: Yup, romulux has confirmed that there are zero pick-ups in Hard mode...

not only are there no missile or health packs, but there's no accel charge either. that almost makes me want to stop playing and switch back to normal.... luckily you at least seem to get your major unlocks like the diffusion beam, and man do you need it.

The power-ups weren't very exciting this time. Well, it was cool to see speed booster in 3D, and to see space jump finally done right in 3D, but the new stuff: diffusion beam, and, um... well, the charging-related stuff. I think that was it? Kind of odd in retrospect, not that I'm complaining.

...Guess I'll just stick with Normal for now till I'm like...ridiculously good at the game then. xD

Lemme know if you do get anything from Hard.

I love Erica (Strike Witches), Eureka (Eureka Seven), and Tenma (School Rumble), stay away from them. xD
Update: Also love Yukari and Mizore from Rosario + Vampire.
Another Update: Also Yuuki...from School Rumble...
Yet Another Update: Also Amber and Xiao Pai from Rune Factory 4.

@romulux: Damn, I was hoping you'd say that at the very least the Accel Charges were still in the game while playing Hard mode; their absence definitely spikes up the difficulty quite a bit more...

@irken: Could you specify which room? Because there's several of them in that section that you're stuck in...

I actually killed all the bugs but one after the Queen Metroid fight... didn't realize there was... another way...

Is it just me, or are all those bugs as tough as bosses? Every time I had to power bomb to get to a new room, I'd be like "Ohh crap, here we go..." and I'd do do the power bomb as far away from the door as possible and go immediately into 1st perspective mode to shoot those bugs with super missiles.... sometimes it would take up to frigging FOUR supers.... they were great enemies.

Also, that one thing that kept showing up and you had to fight at the end of that loooong "escalator". That thing gave me fits, and FORCED me to properly learn to use and depend on the sense move. Up until then I'd fight every enemy head on.

I personally thought the power bomb to the belly was genius, sorta like a "gift" to longtime Metroid players. Right when I zapped her mouth and went into he belly I knew EXACTLY what to do.... well, at least after a few regular bombs didn't work...

SORTA SPOILER OF PREVIOUS GAME
Remember Metroid 2? That's how you beat the Metroid queen there too so that was a really good nod. It's even in the "Metroid and Me" retrospective video at the Metroid 2 part. That put a big smile on my face.

I know exactly what you mean, those bugs—Desbrachians, they're called—were f'ing strong opponents (the toughest enemies in the game, according to the Metroid wiki. My strategy for beating them was to lay the Power Bomb and start rolling toward a corner as soon as I hit the ground, then go into first-person mode, lock-on to their faces and start charging up a Super Missile. If you left your back exposed to those things, you'd get overwhelmed, at least that's what happened to me once (it killed me even though I had all my energy tanks full and a full supply of missiles). In my experience, they only took thee Super Missiles to bring down, though, granted they were delivered in quick succession, of course...

@irken: I take it that when you say you "beat" the game, you mean you defeated MB, correct? You need to complete the final objective after you get back to the Bottle Ship in order to unlock theater mode and gallery mode...

So... no pick up on hard mode? Damn... What are we gonna do against those Desbrachians, Ridley, Phantoon and the Metroid Queen? they just gonna... rip us off! Oh and another one: when the Deleter is on the Forklift (or whatever is it), it already was doing HUMONGUS damage. it will be one hit kill in hard mode...

Just tap away from them repeatedly so you always sense dodge and then release a charge shot when they pause between attacks. The bugs shouldn't take too long one-on-one.
