@eugene: What on earth is that avatar of? It's like something you'd see in Plan 9 From Outer Space.

Just because Yokoi made the VB doesn't mean he was "shunned". And besides that, it's talk like this that made Miyahon disappointed in Wii Music, which, just like VB, has garnered a respectable fanbase over time.

Wii Music has sold OVER 3 million copies.....PS3 Execs would bend over backwards for a hit like that....

IGN: The holiday Wii lineup looks thin for the hardcore crowd. We see this. Gamers see this. What, if anything, is Nintendo planning to address it?

Oh good, I am neither a gamer or hardcore. Saves me from having to be IGNorant.

And yet some people still regard it as unimportant, anyways back on topic...

Maybe Woohoo Island will just be one of several places like this. Who knows? Before long we could see an entire Nintendo based world, with it's own vast history and cultures. * Fanboying *

Quick unquoted comments because I am tired and lazy:

Eugene, I don't know if it's laughable. I know what you mean, but he is basically the guy they report to. He isn't in the same role he used to be where he is the primary creator behind the game. From his own description of his role in interviews, he seems to drift between games and has a big impact on all of them, but he isn't the one doing all the work or coming up with all the ideas, just posing questions and rejecting some ideas. Almost a consultant, but with authority, too.

Black Dragon, Koizumi is the "Mario guy." Just looked it up. He directed Galaxy. I think he directed some past Mario games, too. Too lazy and tired to look up more.

And lastly, PS3 execs don't have to bend over backwards for a 3-million seller. Granted, they don't have nearly as many as Nintendo, but they have two or three, last I checked.

Come on, friends,
To the bear arcades again.

@TwilightV: Yes, he went on to do the WonderSwan, so he wasn't shunned with the public, but I was talking about Nintendo as a company and how brutal Japanese corporate tactics can be. check out G4's episode of Icons where they discuss the Virtua.... To go from 'golden boy' to a 'window seat' sounds like being shunned by the higher-ups to me.

@Adam: ah, I was stuck on 'creator of the Mario character'. it seems Koizumi started on Link to the Past and has been a regular re: Mario and Zelda-series games ever since.

I thought of this while I was mowing lawn today....

cues dark world theme

Think about it. The 'Island Concept'. The upcoming Wuhu 'adventure game.' "Check what we will do in Zelda by playing Sports Resort...."Miyamoto - the boy who crawled in caves, pretending to be Link. The childlike innocenceence of the Zelda series.

The game takes place on modern day wuhu Island, which was once - long ago - Hyrule. And it just so happens that the Wuhu Island Town is built upon the ruins of Old Hyrule Castle Towne. There is a little boy there, and when he walks through a particular back alley on erand from his mother - he emerges in ancient Hyrule.

He soon learns that the Boy Hero of Time in ancient Hyrule has been killed by Ganondorf. Yes, killed, enshrined in a tomb in the middle of Hyrule Castle Town and everyone has lost all hope. Is this why this boy is allowed to travel back in time? To take the place of the Hero of Legend, whose neglected tomb in Wuhu city is regarded as a pleasant myth of times gone by? Or is it all his imagination - is he really going back in time at all....

Play and find out - The Legend of Zelda : Wuhu Island.

For the last time, Miyamoto never said that Zelda will take place on WuHu Island!!! He said "an adventure game". Zelda takes place in Hyrule. Think, people.

That will never happen, Eugene. That was one of the best jokes I have ever heard!

Will add something about the island concept. This is not any new concept at all, some quite popular PC games are based on this concept, as for example Operation Flashpoint, ArmA and ArmA II (Bohemia Interactive), In all these cases you have one or few islands (large and quite detailed ones), which are always the same, but you (the player) have editing/scripting tools that allows you to create any type of adventure (in this case mainly military missions) on these islands. This concept worked quite well during the last 6 years for these games, with hundreds of different missions and adventures programmed over the very same island (s). In this case there is an inportant factor that might affect to Wuhu significatively, these games allows you to specify not only the time of the day when the mission starts, but also weather conditions like clouds, rain, fog and also year station (which affects quite a lot the light effects all around the island at any time). All in all you had a single island that might seem quite different from mission to mission.

I do agree that Zelda on Wuhu is a little out of lines. But I had this idea of a life sim/adventure game, playing as your Mii. You fly into Wuhu for a vacation, but once you get there, you become trapped due to thunderstorms. A mysterious mii gives you a plastic sword, as a welcome present, but you dismiss it and save it in your hotel closet. You meet the locals and try to get a job ( these locals all will have personalities and are the same you see in Wii Sports). You meet Miguel you will suit up with your sword and try to remain free and try to escape. Will you choose to hide and survive without being caught and enslaved by Miguel and his minions, or will you choose to work with the locals to regain control of the island? Using your sword with one hand the same way as in WSR and use the nunchuck for movements and more advanced maneuvers. In **insert name here** you will use your sword, discover the truth of the island, and either fight to survive or fight to rid the peaceful island from Miguel.
