Following its debut in Wii Fit and its makeover in Wii Sports Resort, Miyamoto sez they are going to make a charachter out of the Island, license it, and make a series of random games for it....

Sort of like 'Lost' meats Bit Trip XXXX ......

I am intrigued. It is in the Wii Sports Resort interview :http://uk.wii.com/wii/en_GB/software/iwata_asks_wii_sports_resort_2200.html#top

Excerts :

Miyamoto:That’s right. But I’ve always thought, seeing as we are a games company, that in addition to characters resembling people, why couldn’t we also turn the actual stages of games into characters?

Miyamoto:You could have adventure games, role-playing games, city-building simulation games... It will be fun to see all the ideas that we can come up with, won’t it?

Miyamoto:We thought it would be a fun idea to have a location that everyone knows and then have all sorts of stuff going on there. It would mean that players would already know the town like the back of their hands by the time they came to buy the next adventure game. Everyone could play in a location they were familiar with which would truly turn it into a miniature garden.

Shimamura:Yes, they did. We received instructions such as: “Make it so it will become like a familiar street corner!”
Miyamoto:And things like “Make it so we can reclaim the land if we have to!”

All:(laughter)

Miyamoto:I’d like people who play this game to become very knowledgeable about Wuhu Island.
Iwata:Ah yes, the “Island Concept”.
Miyamoto:If you use this chance to get familiar with the island in advance, you’ll enjoy the next game even more! (laughs)

It's gonna happen!

I don't see concepts like "adventure games, role-playing games, city-building simulation games" being made around the island. They'd be out of place, except maybe the city builder. I don't see people getting excited about an "adventure" on an island where its citizens play sports, music, and exercise all day. Not exactly a setting fraught with danger and possibility.

Miyamoto is known to spout out more ideas than he knows what to do with. I doubt we'll see anything come of this.

I know where he's coming from. I love to draw, and sometimes I get really obsessed with a character, idea, or even a location that I've come up with, and I want to include it in everything I do. He'll probably get over it, but I've seen this Wuhu Island, and I think it's a really cool place. I wouldn't mind seeing more games set there.
Then again, it looks a LOT like Isle Delfino from Super Mario Sunshine.

Isle Deflino, now there is a place that I wouldn't mind seeing again. I love everything related to Mario Sunshine.

About this Wuhu Island, I like the idea. It is pretty similiar to how Zelda games use Hyrule over and over again. (Except Wuhu probably won't change with every game.)

No offense, but you have a very limited imagination. Just as the Island in 'Lost' is not a static place, neither would the Wuhu Island have to be. The basic geography would be the same, I am sure, becuase 'Moto is going on and on about landmarks, but the citizens would be playing sports, exercising, and whatnot? That would 'limit' an adventrue game? What if they put dinosaurs or killer Pokemon or an army of Displaced Moblins seeking a one state soltuion, or Yeti in the mountain? Are we frought with danger and peril now? It is amazing how you would confine 'Moto of all people with these imaginary chains of yours of what they could not do for no reason with this Island!

Adam, they could make the next ZELDA there! They can do whatever they like! I think it is very creative, and the game is already being made, and I will bet you 1000 Wii Points right now it will be released, and in fact a SERIES of these games will be released!

Take me on! Do we have a bet?

First of all, learn how to quote. I didn't say that.

Secondly, saying "no offense" before an insult doesn't make it any less offensive. My imagination is perfectly fine, thank you. And I'd appreciate it if you'd live up to what your signature claims you're trying to do.

He is the one who created it as a safe place. It would completely ruin the suspension of disbelief if a place that has been repeatedly established as this perfectly happy island suddenly has monsters. It just wouldn't fit, especially when there are much better places already established for this.

Seriously, just because there are "landmarks" doesn't mean it is suddenly a place suitable to anything and everything. There are landmarks in Hyrule, but that doesn't mean it would have been a good setting for Wii Sports. It would have been absurd. And just the opposite, Wuhu Island is too silly and lighthearted for a Zelda game.

Sure, they can do whatever they want, but that doesn't mean I'm buying it. I can imagine the game there. I can imagine it just fine. I can also imagine it being ridiculous.

Of course it would fit! - Again they can do ANYTHING they want with it. DO we have a bet or what - you insult Moto and say he is just running off at the mouth, let's bet then!

I just explained why it wouldn't fit, and your response is, "Of course it would." Well, can't argue with that great logic.

It may happen, but if it does, it's going to be awful, and I'm totally uninterested in such a game.

Wow, nice summary judgement - it is going to be 'awful'! You say that with such certainity! But in reality, you are totally uninterested in the game CONCEPT becuase we no nothing of the game(s) itself.

I think it is an intriguing idea, I wish you would not be such a wet blanket....I honestly do not think you get it, but thats fine, lets not argue. Plus you are not going to take the bet anyway....

If someone said the next Star Wars would be set in Candy Land, I could well say that it will be awful without knowing anything but the concept. Even if you for some reason disagree, I don't see why I need anything else to have an opinion. That is enough for me. I never claimed to be uninterested in anything other than the "game CONCEPT."

No you said the game would be awful. You make asumtions about what wuhu island is in Wii Fit and Wii Sports Resort, and apply them to every game in this series. That is presumptious.

Lets say a new Zelda takes place on Wuhu Island - 10,000 years in the past, when it was Hyrule * head asplodes * The georgraphy is the sames, but the places have all changed. Hyrule Castle town was the origional core of the new WuhuCity. Zelda Wuhu,

Now the next game takes place on modern day Wuhu Island. It is an archeologist game, and you go on digs and explore caves looking for dogodo skeleton and fossils and ancient relics from Hyrule Castle Town! Also, you have a submarine so you can check the ocean floor for the wreck of the King of Red Lions! Awesome! So you fill the museum of Wuhu town with relics from its ancient past.

THe next game is Mech and Mii. You are traing on Wuhu Island for a mech war (online) There is a mech base built just outside Wuhu Town and you go there for R and R.

The next game is an online sim city builder. Where you buy lots and develp them and other people visit your city, poulated with your miis....

You get the idea. You make too many asusmptions. Alls these games would have to share is the island and the stark and beautiful Mii/Wuhu art style. Would be sweet.

I don't possess the language to describe how indescribably inane that concept is. Those little face icons won't cut it, either. Or perhaps I too have no imagination.

Walk away, Adam. Walk away.

Good advice. I'm surprised I didn't think that when I first saw the words "Hot for Wuhu."

Laugh now guys, I guess I will just have to wait for the game reveal. Mark my words - this going to be huuuugee!

Haven't they sort of done this with Mushroom Kingdom or am i wrong?

Outrunner

I really just think he meant it would be a constant setting for games like Wii Fit and Wii Sports. I'm with Adam. I think a Zelda game on Wuhu island sounds crazy.

"And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins." Matt. 1:21.

Knux

This just means that Miyamoto would like to have all his casual games based around this island.
But does it really matter if the games are good?

Knux

theblackdragon

I'm in agreement with SuperSonic1990; it sounds like Wuhu Island would end up the setting for any future Wii Sports/Wii Music/Wii Play/Wii ____ games, not for any other established series.

i mean, a Zelda game on Wuhu island? seriously? i do not have the words to accurately describe how truly lame that sounds. i'm already on the fence about Spirit Tracks, but there's no way in hell I'd buy a Wii Zelda. D:
