I knew I liked this guy.

Miyamoto on his desire to focus more on the (hard)core Nintendo fan.

Oooh! Other M playthroughs? I'm in.
I also really enjoyed Other M, and have defended the story to a pretty good degree, though not here as I never felt that anyone was willing to acknowledge the story, so it was useless to defend the parts people had a problem with. :P

Other M might be my favourite but I love all Metroids, except 1&2 (I just respect them).
I love Other M's story, I think I rewatch the 'movie' today. In fact the only problem I have with Other M's story is you can't skip the cutscenes playing on hard (the second time around). Lengthy cutscenes should be skipable when watching for a second time. Many games do this).

Apart from that I don't think Other M's story is the problem. It's Samus character, her real identity, her behaviour. It divides fans. And that's great for me personally. I love her even more now, being totally misunderstood all her life and when sharing her secrets being punished with hate. Lonely space bounty hunters girls life. Even Earth abandoned her. This game is pure meta. In my eyes Other M rescued the franchise. :)

You can skip the scenes on Hard Mode. You only have to watch them the first playthru on Normal.

So...beat it on easy 100%, then beat it on hard within 5 hours. Also saved at the point before fighting Ridley on the third save file. So I've pretty much done all I can do with this game.

Wish I hadn't gone through it so fast, but it was enjoyable, and I can't wait to play the Pyrosphere stage on the next Smash.

Is there to was though when even at like of than with it?

Games I'm playing: Xenoblade Chronicles, Trauma Center: Second Opinion, Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor Overclocked

I was quite sad how they portrayed samus in it, where was my baddonkey female bounty hunter that I know and love? She just felt...well girly XD.

Marisa- It's so hot, I'm gonna die here.
Reimu- If you die, I'll feed your corpse to the birds.
Remilia- My, it'd be fine if you'd let me take care of that.
Marisa- That's a definite no.

The portrayal of Samus in the game was apparently intentional by Sakamoto himself. He wanted to show her as "compassionate" as well as "earnest" and "a little immature." Which is strange, but fine, I guess. The way they delivered that, however, with all the cheesy dialogue, poor writing, and melodramatic cutscenes was just awful. But it did give me a few laughs.

I've never played Metroid: Other M but played every single game in the series, including the Metroid Prime titles. I was put off by the constant debate between those that liked it and those that hated it. So I've always wondered about it....should I get it if the price was low for a NEW title (I don't usually buy games that are used.)

Aww. :|

I'm late to the party here, but I was hoping your experience might be better. There are some pretty major flaws with the pacing, so I can understand where you might have been frusterated... that said, I actually enjoy the very beginning more than a lot of the other sequences.

Well everyone goes through puberty and has to deal with emotions. And the story is a prequel, right? In that case, they can't just start off with her being a (as DawnOverALilly put it) "baddonkey female bounty hunter." She has to get to that point. You don't become a bestselling author or world-renowned artist immediately, just because you decide that's what you want to become. It takes time to get to that point, just like it took time for Samus to get to where she was in the other Metroids.

Other M is the 8th Metroid in the timeline. It goes as such:

Metroid / Metroid: Zero Mission
Metroid Prime
Metroid Prime: Hunters
Metroid Prime 2: Echoes
Metroid Prime 3: Corruption (Other M refuses to even acknowledge the Prime Trilogy, which is unfortunate because they are some of the best games in the franchise, imo)
Metroid II: The Return of Samus
Super Metroid
Metroid: Other M
Metroid Fusion

So, Other M is a prequel to Metroid Fusion but Samus is already an established bada** bounty hunter by this point in the timeline. When I think Other M, I think of it more as a sequel to Super Metroid rather than a prequel to Metroid Fusion. In fact, when the game was first announced by Nintendo, it was being advertised as a sequel to Super Metroid. Apparently, that fact was one of Nintendo's "selling points" for the game. How dare they try to milk off the greatness that was Super Metroid??? >:[

Now, if only I could place where Metroid Pinball fits in this timeline! :O

Oh nevermind, then. I haven't played Other M. I'm just going off of what I've heard about the game. I'm still playing my first game in the series, Metroid Prime Trilogy(can I count those as one game?).
