btw, it's really flying lame how we can't have "offical" threads because it "doesn't contribute to the site". The community of a website doesn't contribute towards it? What kind of backwards-airplane logic is that?
@Liam: if i recall correctly, the problem was that 'Official' sounds like something coming from a staff writer (or someone actually 'contributing' to the site itself and not just someone hanging out on the forums, or worse yet, something 'officially' condoned by Nintendo Life). They let the 'official' thread titles slide for a long time, up until someone posted that 'official bashing thread' about a game they hadn't even played yet, which was totally not cool, and Prosody laid down the law accordingly.
Also, a note to others - please don't use the word "Official" in your title unless one of the admins says so. It reflects very badly on the site if there's a topic claiming to be "Official" that's just insulting a game or developer.
One person took it too far and killed it for everyone else. Sorry, Liam, but them's the breaks. We know what everyone means by 'unofficial', so what's the big deal? :3

Official thread or not, I was watching videos of the game last night (and IGN's video review) and this game looks sweet. A very selfish part of me wishes I didn't have to spend money on buying other people gifts right now, because a 6-8 hour length is probably about right for me to finish the first playthrough before I leave town. I have no preconceived notions about what Silent Hill should be, so I'm looking forward to a great game regardless of how much of a departure it is. I love the idea of having to run for your life rather than trying to fight off the monsters.
Graphics whores, this one looks like the game for you. I did a double-take on one of the videos because I thought for a second that the psychologist was a live person before I figured it out.
Don't know if the game is really worth $50 with the short length, but I'm probably going to spring for it anyway in January or February and sell it on ebay if I no longer find it fun to replay. On the other hand, it might be a fun one to dust off every October....

I love scary stuff. I get scared on games like Metroid because of the mood, but I've played a Silent Hill game before, and it was really freaky! This one seems like it'll be pretty awesome in that regard. Sometimes I scare myself on games just because I am trying to get out of an area without an enemy hitting me. XD

I'm actually kinda happy my town is in blizzard conditions. It's great to play a wintery horror game(or watchs a great wintery horror movie-ex-The Thing) while it's really crazy cold and snowy outside!

You're right man, that sounds awesome!

It did add to the feaky aspects of the experiance! The only downside is at times I couldn't tell if the sounds were the insane wind outside trying to break through my window, or the game. I gotta say, I didn't know the Wii could process graphics like this. It really is a beauty to behold. The whole flashlight in the snow thing is absolutely amazing.
Also, I don't know if anyone else had this issue but GameStop failed to supply me with My Pre order CD wich was my whole reason for Preordering. I'm kinda pissed at them right now for that.
i have been playing this game nearly non stop gotten 4 different endings it is so great this is one of the best silent hill games made story, characters, gameplay its so great wii owners that like horror games must get it
The fact that there is no combat in the game seems offputting to me. Not because the combat in prior games was so good (it was pretty clunky), but I'm not sure running from enemies won't get old.

I feel the exact opposite Fox. I haven't played a third person action game since Devil May Cry 3 because I've got bored of third person combat. I find it unimmersive and, like you said, clunky.
I hadn't looked at this game until I saw the video review on Gametrailers a few days back, after hearing how it plays, I am looking forward to it, no end. This is the type of gameplay innovation that I've been hoping the Wii would bring, albeit a small step away from traditional gaming.
I've heard the main complaint is that its very scary/intense when enemies are about but when they're gone, its a very obvious transition and then the game is too calm.

It still succeeeds in being eerie, but the intensity is down when the nightmare sequences are over. The really tense issues come from the fact that your phone makes the same noise when you are going to find an area that has a memory attached to it as it does hwen you are about to be plunged into nightmare mode, so there is still a danger feel. And nightmare mode is INTENSE!
This game is epic in design, and a technical achievement for Wii... But the experience is far too short and the transition into nightmare-mode ruined any lasting scares the games could provide. Going to play through a second time with a different psyche though. I will report back.
Update: The more I play this game I still feel like weapons (not excessively, like A HANDGUN) and random encounters (of at least ferocious wolves/bears/demon-esque creatures) would have made this game a 10.
