For those that don't know, this is another of those Japanese super-popular games that Nintendo loved so much they decided to publish it themselves to try and improve its overseas profile (Monster Hunter Tri being the other one).

After a solid playing session, I enjoy this more than Monster Hunter Tri. The game's roots in real Japanese history is fascinating for those that appreciate Japanese culture, the game is a technical marvel that has hundreds of people running around at once, and with the Japanese voice acting turned on, it sounds really good too.

The game is a bit mindless in its action, but there's real impact behind the battles - there is a visceral thrill of wading through entire units of soliders. There's also a tonne of content to unlock, and you can create your own characters and play online too.

Monster Hunter Tri was so popular, but didn't really click with me. This is only getting middling reviews, but I am in love with it. Provided you haven't played too many Dynasty Warrior-style games in the past, this is a good one to look into for action fans.

Obviously I also thought it was great, though because my Wii has the dreaded "System Memory Errors" and will likely be shipped off and potentially formatted I'm not playing any more online-enabled games for the moment (damn Nintendo for not splitting the save data between online/offline components for backup purposes!). Otherwise I'd be playing this loads more!

The game seems entertaining but I think I'll wait for a discounted price. Post pics!

Personally, I'm glad it's not coming to the U.S. We've had more than our fair share action slogathons, that's for sure.

I could never really see the appeal of these mindless action games. I prefer games where the enemy is something to be feared, and are actually a challenge to take down, the way they are in Devil May Cry and Ninja Gaiden, or even old-school action guys for that matter. I never really get a "rush" from wasting a bunch of samey-looking foes that can hardly defend themselves and certainly aren't any threat to me because the main characters are a bunch of overpowered beasts.

Mass carnage, that's what.

The game's not really meant to be a challenge, in the conventional sense (though hard is still hard), it's about big action and being powerful. It's visceral, and good fun.

The Japanese history behind the game is a nice touch too, if you're into that kind of thing.

I enjoyed one of the Dynasty Warriors games a few years back, so if I can get it at a good price, ill give it another go. multiplayer in these games was always good fun.

Fuzzy, Backloggery.

You can only really enjoy one or two of the Dynasty/Samurai Warriors games. They are all exactly the same, with simple graphical changes in each iteration (gameplay never changes).

It looks like system update 4.3 corrected my "system files corrupted" issues, so I can enjoy this again (though first I feel I should finish replaying Dead Space Extraction on Hard difficulty).

I'm in the process of moving house at the moment, so my internet access is limited. However, once it's back up and going, you up for some online demon slaying?

Also, Kunoichi and Masamune Date are my heroes <3

I started out with Nobunaga Oda and have to clear the final mission for Toyotomi Hideyoshi, so clearly I've barely scratched the surface. I did play some Murasame's Castle though to try it out.

If the time difference isn't too big an obstacle I'm game for some team-Murasame demon slaying, sure. I'll see if I can fish out my friend code tonight and stuff it in the old siggaroo!

Awesome stuff, Gimme two weeks to finish moving and set up a new Internet connection, and those demons are going back to hell.

Finished the game with two characters now, between my own and my brother's Wii (where I played the multiplayer), I've clocked up 16 hours. Awesome stuff.

Having checked the time difference this could be a challenge. Even on the week-ends my play time is generally between 21:00-22:00 BST (presently in daylight savings) which is 06:00-07:00 Aussie time, if I'm not mistaken - that work for you?

Yeah, that doesn't bother me in the slighest. I'm usually up at 5.

Slightly disappointed that despite our glowing recommendations, we seem to be the only two people on this forum that gets into this game C'mon guys, it's like Monster Hunter Tri! If you don't support Nintendo when they publish this stuff out of Japan, you'll miss out on some awesome games

Some questions...

-How is online like? Any lag? Do you have to play with friends, or can it be anyone?

-How many missions are in the game? How long do you think the entire game is?

-How many playable characters?

I shall diffently pick this up when the price is lowered. This looks really fun. See you guys online.

I haven't played the online yet - as I said, I'm in the process of moving. Once I set up though I'll definatly be taking it online.

In the story mode, each character has five missions for their story - there's about 30 characters that have stories (and another 10 playable characters that don't). Each mission will take 15-30 minutes, and there's four difficulty levels.

Assuming you play through each character on one difficulty setting, and don't fail a single mission (which is difficult to do, even on easy), you're looking at 37.5-75 hours of play.

But that's not all. There's also Murasame's Castle, which is an adventure mode of sorts that you can play through with any character. There's also a Historical mode, which has a bunch more missions that you can only play through with a custom character (you can make 10 of these).

There's also the online and split screen multiplayer modes, and the challenge of levelling characters to 50 (a play through of the story mode will get them up to about 20, the rest takes more grinding), and unlocking the best pieces of equipment possible.

All in all, if you get hooked into this game, it'll last you as long as Monster Hunter Tri. 150+ hours worth of game in there easily.
