I was gonna make this thread later...I was going to play this game later..but here I am. Honestly, I heard some praise for this game, found it for cheap and was planning to play it eventually. Looking at the back of the box confirmed that I need to start it within the next week (that and I can't afford any more games for a while anyway). Now the back of the box mostly just has general points to praise the game and the generic line at the top saying "It's an entirely new way to play SRPGs!" How generic? But the "body" of the text I suppose you could say...I just have to quote it.
"The stars of Broadway battle against evil warlords of ancient Japan in New York in their steam-powered mechanized suits, spearheaded by a Japanese youth burning with the spirit of a samurai!"
I need to play it ASAP. Especially if this is all played completely straight.
It's a PS2 port so it's best to play it with a classic controller but the game doesn't have proper in game instructions if you decide against the Wiimote/nunchuk setup. You'll just have to figure it out yourself. Also be careful not to let your game idle during dialog (in battle). My game has frozen once doing so. NIS blames this on the dual layer disc. (Although I haven't had any issues with Xenoblade.) Also a word of caution: you can save during a battle, but don't. Every time I've attempted to use that function the game will freeze up shortly after loading that quicksave. Not an awesome port but still a lot of fun.

It sounds like the PS2 version is better. Thanks for helping me decide on which version to buy.
The PS2 version probably is better. Plus, i think for the same price you can get the deluxe package that comes with a soundtrack and maybe some other swag.
Also, yes, it is annoying that when playing with the CC you basically have to figure out on your own what button does what.
I bought both versions. That's how much I like the game. Although I can't say whether the PS2 version freezes in the same ways or not. I hope not, but it's easy to avoid either way.
I made it to the 6th episode. The freezing issues were so bad I had to stop playing it completely. The game is excellent, no doubt, but I found the NY setting a bit cheesy at times.
I'm stuck in a dogfight. Giant boss with minions that fly through the air. Never played a roundbased strategy game like this before.
I prefer the dating sim portions of the game
I bought and finished the game when it was first released. A unique mix of gameplay styles. I always planned to play it through again because it has several different endings, depending on which girl you choose and other choices throughout the game - i finished it with Gemini. It was a really good game if a bit strange. The story parts were odd, but enjoyable and the battle scenes were good too, if a little bit limited at first - later battles get much better and bigger in scope.
The fight on the space carrier at the end of the game was so hard - i can remember that even though it was a while ago since i played - it totally overwhelms you - much harder than any of the other battles in the whole game.
-This game has one of the better anime opening songs I've heard.
-Hello Renton Thurston.
-Immediately coming back to point out that the dialogue is almost immediately living up to the back of the box description. I am happy.
-Cutting to the Statue of Liberty 5 times within as many seconds. I don't even know what to say.
-The music immediately following to inform us of being in New York is clearly just unused Pokemon Casino music.
-And now an unused character from Rising Zan: Samurai Gunman. Honestly I don't even know much about what I just referenced but any excuse to post this is worth it.
-I didn't realize until minutes before a save checkpoint...thing that you can save at any time apparently.
-Biggest pet peeve right now, changing in and out of voiced dialogue. This is the least offensive version of that but inconsistent use of voice acting is still among the quickest ways to completely take me out of a game. That being said though, I'm really enjoying this both ironically and otherwise.
