Personal bias aside, I advise everyone to at least check out the new Ratchet in Clank....I'm pretty sure the demo ran at 1080p (had only 1080p enabled and the game ran...and PS3 games don't upscale) and it was truly awe-inspiring....really a gorgeous game--those who appreciate the artistic flair of a Mario game will like the game's style/emphasis on solid framerate. If you're at Gamestop or something, maybe casually ask (after you throw a soup can at their head if they try to give you a opened game w/ disc placed as new) if they can toss it into a PS3 if it isn't in already...look guuuud.

I suggest everyone try a Ratchet & Clank game. Truly is a brilliant series, with fun gameplay, hilarious stories, and an approachable difficulty level. There's just nothing not to love about them. Honestly, I'm practically offended that people will brush it off just because of this.

R&C ain't for me, don't really like shooting in my platform games, which sadly put me off the game, still own one of the games so could always have another go, but my first impression of it wasn't great.

I played a Ratchet & Clank game for the PS2, and found it so dreary and un-inspired.

Which one was it? I don't think I've ever played a R&C game that was "dreary". They're usually comical affairs.

It was an early one, possibly the first. Maybe dreary is the wrong word, more like, bland...

Eh, well, I'd personally find it difficult to call any of them 'bland', but to each their own.

I laugh at people attacking Ratchet & Clank for what she said. It's not like the developers called Mario kiddy, Final Fantasy IX character Steiner did. Just because she likes R&C doesn't mean that we have to go and attack an outright excellent game.

You are absolutely right about that part. As I said earlier, I tried the first Ratchet and Clank game and it really didn't do anything for me--but there are a LOT of excellent games that don't do anything for me. Reviewers have extolled the virtues of most of the GTA games, and while I can tell they are good games, none of them did anything for me except Chinatown Wars. With Ratchet and Clank, I could tell it was a good game, it just wasn't a good game that I was having fun playing. The fact that it was one of a small number of games that gives me motion sickness (Wind Waker is another) probably didn't help things any. :-)

If nothing else, it's one of the few quality Playstation franchises you can play with your kids in the same room. That just didn't help when I was too busy feeling green...

I'd just like to point out that I'm in my late 20s and have never managed to finish Super Mario Bros, Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Sunshine (I'm still trying!). They're certainly possible for me to finished but I've just not put the time in - but easy they're not. I've finished Super Mario Galaxy but I still haven't collected all the stars - I couldn't even imagine a kid doing this. Some of those stars are a real challenge to collect - and I mean really hard.

As for Ratchet and Clank - I have no problem with it as a game but I find the characters to be uninspiring. They're nothing great or original - the characters are hardly in the same league as Mario (and the likes of Sonic and Lara Croft). They're pretty forgettable and that takes a lot away from the appeal of their games.

OMG what a $%&*! Ratchet & Clank is a Mario64 clone, and it's never been a very good one either. And I know lots of people will disagree, but they owned PS2's, so I don't listen to them. :D

As for R&C, I'm sure it's great, but I will never know. Sony's mascots always seem a bit forced odd to me.

The message it's the other way around only immature adults play with guns while real gamers think outside the box for fun in other words games with gun is overused while Classic games reinvented such Super Mario Galaxy is the perfect example of what video game should be.

I disagree with just about all of this post. Just because someone likes playing games with guns, such as Call of Duty or Ratchet and Clank, does not make them immature. Real gamers enjoy a variety of games, which can include both shooters and platformers such as Super Mario Galaxy. Shooters are overused, that I can agree with, but so is Mario. We see at least one Mario game released every year, and Mario games have been around for 20 years. And if every game was like Mario Galaxy, gaming would suck. It would just be boring playing the same game over, and over, and over. Even if you mean just platformers, gaming would still suck without other genres.
