A classic for the Wii. Great game! I'm having problems with Great Tiger though. Just how do ju dodge his tiger punch?

You have to start dodging right after he starts coming towards you. I recommend fighting him in practice mode until you get the hang of it. It is pretty tricky.

Just picked up my copy-- and its awsome! I only got to play for about half an hour, and I got to admit, its harder than I thought it would be. I lost to King Hippo, and Bear Hugger one time, and now I'm stuck on Great Tiger.

The game is well worth $50. Tons of content. After title defense mode, there's a mode called Mac's Last Stand. (I read about it in the game manuel). Plus there's lots of hard achievements, multiplayer, and of course 3 single player modes.

Oh and the motion controls are KICK A$$!! I haven't even tried NES style yet!

@Jon
When fighting Great Tiger he will generate a mirage of himself before he does his Tiger Punch. Ignore the mirage form and just focus on the real Great Tiger. Watch the jewel on his turban, when it blinks that is when he is about to throw his punch so be ready to dodge. Practice fighting him in exhibition mode and you should be able to beat him in no time!

You could do better, though. With practice, it's possible to punch him as he comes toward you! If you manage, it's an instant knock-down, which means you have to rely on that technique to beat the Exhibition challenge for beating him with TKO in only 3 punches. I was having a TON of trouble with that challenge until I switched to to the NES-style controls. There's DEFINITELY something to be said for the precision of pressing a button instead of swinging a remote.

Overall, I'd say this is my favorite Punch-Out!! game now, taken from the viewpoint of a guy whose first experiences with the series were on the VC. I LOVE the way you no longer have to fight past previous opponents just to retry a guy further along the circuit who kicked your butt, for example. I also really like the Exhibition challenge mode, even though I have NO CLUE how to pull off many of them. Beat King Hippo without landing a Jab? WHAT?

I still can't get passed Great Tiger! I figured out the one-hit-knockdown, but I can't do it consistantly. I know what I have to do to beat him, but I just don't have the reflexes. Still a great game, though. I'm using practice mode a LOT more than I thought I would.

I'm trying to get as far as I can without practice mode. I beat Soda Popinski last night, and unlike the other boxers, he's actually easier than he was on the NES! Bald Bull made a monkey out of me though.

I'm disappointed that you can't go back and fight the boxers you've beaten again. Very disappointed, actually. I know you can cherry-pick them in Exhibition mode, but what if I just want to fight through them all again from the start? I used to LOVE doing that on the NES and SNES. Now I have to start a brand new profile. And if I want to fight them all again I have to start ANOTHER new profile.

BOOOOOO.

Phew! Just finished off Don Flamenco. He was much easier than The Great Tiger. It's funny when fighting him because at one point something happens that stops the match for a few seconds and he gets REALLY angry and starts throwing hay makers to knock you out.

This game is great. The controls are a little rough at times, but I'm not going to switch to NES style anytime soon. I love throwing the punches myself. I would give it a 9 outta 10 fur sure.

I'm still up in the air when it comes to purchasing this.

On one hand it looks like it'd be nice to have in my collection, it's Nintendo's only "great" game since Brawl, and it goes along with my whole "support NEW games" thing.

On the other it looks like one of those games I'll buy and think "Eh, I should have rented this"

I've never played Punch Out either so that doesn't help things.

Then rent it.
Or go buy the Punch-Out off the VC for 500 points to see if you even like the series

Just for you.

( I still can't get passed Great Tiger! )

Wait until you fight him in Title Defense Mode bwahah i just ko him but is an annoying fight.
This little tip could help, if you pres + and - button between rounds you can get some stamina back (the trick only works once per fight)

Dude, you're awesome! I didn't know that.

Sandmans too busy making mincemeat out of me right now.

Has anyone tried to get any of the challenges?

I didn't know that either, I thought they replaced the between-fight health-spurt with the waggling while you're opponent is down.

I've gotten a few challenges...one each on King Hippo, Von Kaiser and Disco Kid, I think. The challenges are NOT easy! Beat Super Macho Man in the first round? Okay, maybe in like 10 years I'll get that lucky.

Oh, and stop Bald Bull's charge with a star punch. Uh-huh. I've only managed to do it once out of 20 times with a regular punch! Has anyone figured out the timing on that Bull Charge, by the way? That thing is hard to counter this time around.

I'm currently at Mr. Sandman. Wow, he is really tough! His punches are very tricky! For now I'm spending my time practicing against him in exhibition mode before I take him on again. I'm also spending a good amount of time on the challenges. I have unlocked 12 so far but some of them are just ridiculous! They add so much replay value to an already great game! This game is an instant classic, go and buy it if you haven't already or at least rent it! You won't regret it!

I'm going to play some more this weekend. I haven't got to really sit down with it yet.

I just got to the World S circut on Title Defense Mode. Every boxer in TDM has made me restart at least half a dozen times... And now Aran Ryan is kicking my ass.

I'm at Great Tiger in Title Defense now. I completed all challenges for the regular Glass Joe and Bear Hugger matches. Anyone found both one hit KO's on Hondo? Or how to knock King Hippo's crown off?

@TwilightV

That's what I was wondering! The challenges are ridiculous.

A word of advice. His new Tiger Punch requires you to dodge right or left, watch closely and dodge towards the real Great Tiger (a ghost will mirror him). After dodging those punches, duck his spin. Then fire away with the jabs to the face!
