So when the Wii U was announced, one of the first things I was looking forward to was playing classic NES/SNES/64 games at the same time my wife watched t.v. Unfortunately that hasn't happened yet, but hopefully it will be possible in the near future. I haven't bought a Wii U yet, but once Rayman Legends comes out or playing VC games on the gamepad is possible, I'll be sorely tempted.

In the interim and mainly due to the concept put forth by the GamePad, I fished out my portable DVD player and plugged my Wii into it (I did have to buy a simple adapter from RadioShack). And it works great! Although I have a wire stretched from the Wii to the couch, I can now play VC games and Wii games while the t.v. is on. Also, there are car adapters on Amazon for the Wii so it is even be possible to play Wii games on a car trip (also plan to do the same with the Wii U - plugging it into a car adapter and playing on the GamePad). I haven't tried it, but I'm sure it would work.

Anyone else tried making their Wii portable? I'm sure some will say just buy a 3ds already, but I love classic Nintendo games (of which there are only few on the 3ds eShop) and Wii games are superior to 3ds games IMO.

Currently playing (perpetually): NHL 95, Mega Man 2 and Super Metroid
