as long as you can ignore or turn off the hint system, what's the harm in having it there? if i have to choose between using a game guide to get past a particularly tricky part of the game or listening to an in-game character/watching an in-game animation giving me a general idea of what I need to do next, at least the in-game hint doesn't feel so much like I'm cheating myself out of the general experience by asking for outside help.

Anyway, I'm glad Nintendo wants more people interested in Zelda. They need to find a way to bring new people into the series.
As for the Mario thing, that's cool too. They already make these sort of games and they're alright so this sounds like it'll be those with Mario slapped on the cover. (For some of you that don't realize this they aren't ditching the main Mario series for this, jeez)

It's been casual on every console up to this point so I'm not sure why you want change all of a sudden.
