I was woundering what the many of the opinions of No More Heroes are. I've read a couple of reviews and I've heard plenty on 2, so how was the first one in your opinion? Chat Away!

The best game on Wii. Of course, I haven't played NMH2, only because I don't have the money for it right now

Green: Can you give an explanation why? I'm looking for opinions on the first game on whether or not its woth getting (Even Though I'll Porbably get it regardless) and I also want just to hear about its problems.

Well, I'm still in rank 2, but it's a pretty solid game, though it definitely has it's flaws.

For starters, the combat can get old very fast, especially with the lack of variety in death cries (there's only one). The saving grace of the combat are the motion commands for the finishing blows and wrestling moves, which keeps it a bit fresh.

Secondly, the sandbox environment is sorely lacking, with nothing to do except finding some balls that are spread out around the map (which you trade for techniques) and kicking open dumpsters for t-shirts and cash.

Thirdly, there's the motorcycle you use to travel around the map, which is unnecessarily bulky and a pain to maneuver. Hell, I usually ditch the bike altogether and just run around the map to where I need to go.

Lastly, the side-jobs you have to do in order to fund your ascent to the top don't pay enough so you're forced to constantly repeat them until you've scrounged up enough cash to pay for the next rank fight (not to mention power-ups).

Other than the above complaints, it's a pretty decent game...

The first one I thought was pretty good. The game had fun bosses and it was always fun to do the motion to cut someone in half or lob their head off. I also liked how you had a cut scene before each boss fight. Each of the bosses had their own personality and they had specific way to beat them. My favorite has to be Dr. Peace. Not only does have a good singing voice and revolvers that fire explosive bullets, but explains how he used Travis's entry fee which is quite humorous. I think he makes a return in the sequel because I saw a guy that looks like him in one of the trailers with Shinobi. There are some things that are bad such as the pointless overworld map which is gone in the sequel and having to do jobs to raise money in order to fight the next boss. Thankfully, you don't have to do the jobs in the sequel to continue the story. In the sequel, you can do them to raise money in order to buy new cloths, upgrades for beam katanas, etc. Also, almost all of the sidequests have been turned into fun 8 bit minigames. I didn't mind the jobs in the first one, but they got really repetitive and boring after replaying them repeatedly to get money. Overall, it's a pretty good game and I recommend a purchase. You can get it pretty cheap now a days and sometimes you can find it in a bundle with Red Steel, although Red Steel is not really a good game. Hopefully, Red Steel 2 will be better.

@Metroid_Fan
Watch out for her one hit kill move! When she's on the ground, she will pretend to cry. Be careful and watch to see if she's got a hand around her bat. If she's got a hand around her bat, DO NOT ATTACK HER OR IT'S INSTANT DEATH! However, if she doesn't have any hand around her bat, then wail on her.

I think it's one of the best games I've ever played, because it makes fun of video games, and it breaks the fourth wall a lot. It's not afraid to poke fun at itself. The most common complaints are that there's nothing to do in the city, and the side jobs are boring, but that's the point. It's a satire. The fact that there's a map you can travel around but you can't really do much is making fun of games like Grand Theft Auto. People who don't like that are missing the point. It's not supposed to be a "sandbox" game. Not even in the least. The side jobs are supposed to be annoying because part-time jobs are not fun. You can analyze this game all day, and certain people will come to different conclusions, because some people won't understand the game's purpose. I love that the world map is basically just taunting you, and the part time jobs are fun just because they're supposed to suck. There's a good deal of stuff to find around the world map if you look for it. The gameplay itself does get a little repetitive, but--like Killer 7--it's not about the gameplay; it's about the story. The cutscenes, dialogue, and humor are what makes the game what it is. The graphical style only adds to that. This is one of the best games I've ever played not because it's one of the best games ever made, but because it knows that. No More Heroes is a satire on video game cliches and nerd culture, it does it well, and it's rough around the edges, but because of the nature of the game, it works, and it works well. If the game were more refined, it wouldn't be nearly as impactful.

@Viper: I fell for that move. What I meant was that I'm already ranked 2nd, so I guess I should've said I'm at rank 1.

Totally! I started again on Bitter last night, because the pain of knowing my american friends were already playing it, was tooooo much! ****heads!!!!

The combat can get old if you just hammer A the whole time, but I like to mix it up and look cool while I'm killing. I love me some wrestling grabs, the motion controls are so satisfying. Hooah!

I'll echo some of the other opinions here for want of my own: brilliant satire of games and gamers. I personally love tooling around the empty overworld running down pedestrians and smashing the bike -- brilliant stuff! The mini-games are part of the charm for me; it does sound like the the sequel's 8-bit homages take it to the next level. Gameplay is excellent, you can just mash the A button, but as Machu says, doing the wrestling moves is fantastically satisfying -- great use of motion control.

The OTT bosses like Dr. Peace (also my favourite) are terrific. The writing and voice-acting is marvelous and the character facial animation equals it -- terrific story telling. I definitely don't feel this is a case where the sequel negates the original. You can get it really cheap so I definitely recommend picking it up as it's definitely one of the best 3rd party releases on the Wii. Definitely!

I guess I'm going to come across as the sourpuss as I couldn't stand it. The overworld completely failed to live up to Suda's endless boasting about a whole new twisted take on a fully fledged GTA. The jobs were dull, repetitive and frankly insulting to the player. The combat was serviceable, despite repetitive goons. The characterization, however, was fabulous, especially the bosses. I guess I was expecting too much after the stellar Killer 7, which is one of my all-time favourites and the superior game I think. Anyway I'm really glad that, in most people's opinions, the failings of NHM are put right in NHM 2, and against my better judgment I may give it a second chance.

It's absolutely awesome. The combat is repetitive, the overworld is desolate and the bike handles shockingly, but none of this bothered me because everything about the game is just so much fun. The bike is pretty much the coolest thing I've ever seen - screw the physics - and the combat is the easily most satisfying I've ever experienced. As soon as I took out the first enemy in the tutorial I was in love with the game. The only real negative in my eyes was the boring and mandatory mini-games, but they're not too bad and don't constitute too much of the game.

Also, the girl in it is hot.

I usually hate 3rd person action games, but I loved No More Heroes, and highly recommend it.

Objection

A great musthave mature game.
Pros: funny/epic story and great voice acting
highly satisfying OOT bosses and violence (at least in the NA version)
Intuitive controls that don't make it a wagglefest
Saving ('Nuff Said)

Cons: The HUB world needed work but its still managable. Same goes for the side tasks
The foul language may annoy some
Sequel sounds better in most aspects (I need to confirm this )

What Metroid_Fan said was pretty much how I'd sum up the game to. It's good, but I wouldn't say it's the best game on the Wii.
Also,I hated when I just wanted to hurry to a place in the overworld,so I take my motorcycle, use the boost, and then I slightly touch a building and fall off. I absolutely hated that!
But I'd say check it out and it's sequal too.

I hear its amazing when the famous purple stuffed worm in flap-jaw space with the tuning fork does a raw blink on hari-kiri rock!!! I NEED SCISSORS!!! 61!!!

NMH is a cool game that could have needed
a little more polish (game crashes at one point - need to switch Wii to different language to overcome this)
and uncut (unfortunately no gore and blood fountains in EU version).

One of the few good 3rd party games I love to have in my Wii collection nonetheless.
NMH2 is a definite get.

It's a tough game to judge. My opinion? Overrated (or at least talked about more than it deserves) but still worth playing - especially because it can be found cheap. There are moments of absolute tedium, and moments of brilliance. From what I've played, everything seems to balance out though.

Thanks for all the comments, now is the game very hard to play? Also I was woundering what you have to do in order to unlock the fight with Henry, so could I please get an answer on these questions as well.

I thought it was pretty good right until the 10,000th job between missions I had to do.

Not really, though I never tried the unlockable hard difficulty.

Three difficulties (sweet, mild, bitter), the first of which you will get through no prob. To meet Henry just get to Rank #1 having bought all the swords (you can return to the overworld if you haven't and then come back, which is cool). Enjoy!

game funkin' kicks ass man!
