I was looking on Metacritic for Wii titles and I saw something that really made me think, the Top 20 Wii Gmes. And if you look closely, it's really really sad. Here's the list:

1. Super Mario Galaxy - 97
2. Twilight Princess - 95
3. World of Goo - 94
4. Super Smash Bros. Brawl - 93
5. Rock Band 2 - 92
6. Resident Evil 4 - 91
7. Okami - 90
8. Metroid Prime 3 - 90
9. Punch Out - 89
10. Little King's Story - 88
11. Boom Blox Bash Party - 87
12. Zach nad Wiki - 87
13. Bomberman Blast - 86
14. Guitar Hero: World Tour - 86
15. Guitar Hero III - 86
16. Tetris Party - 86
17. Maboshi Arcade - 85
18. Guitar Hero: Metallica - 85
19. Super Paper Mario - 85
20. Boom Blox - 85

At initial glance, it's not too bad. But think about lie this. only 14 games are Wii exclusives, still not too bad. 4 are Wiiware titles. The third best game on the Wii is Wiiware. 3 games are Guitar Hero, and one Rock Band. Number 6 and 7 are last gen ports. Number 9, is an arguable remake. 6 titles, arguably 7 are puzzle games. No sports or racing titles. Note the lowest rating in the Top 20 is 85, on the 360, the lowest rating in the Top 20 is 90. Despite being a Top 20, only 15 frnachises are represented, in consider Smash Bros. 1 franchise. I know it's a little nitpicky, but Metacritic really shows the Wii's flaws.

Your opinion.

My opinion is that I put very little faith in critics or "average reviews."

If I like a game, I like a game. If I don't, I don't. And no amount of critical sway is going to change that.

I have no idea why the lowest rating in the top 20 for an XBOX is 90. But I do know that there wasn't enough to interest ME in an XBOX, and that's about where my interest ends.

The Wii is definitely lacking when it comes to quality games.

We don't need Metacritic to tell us that.

Oh no! A bunch of people in an industry that has proven it's useless and unreliable compared to word of mouth says I shouldn't like the 50+ Wii games I do! WHAT WILL WE DO!? IT'S ALL OVER! THE DREAM IS RUINED! OH GOD! OH GOD!

I'm not criticizing the Wii as a whole, just that fact it has come out few and a small variety of top of the line games.

I've been saying this and I'll say it again: It'd be silly if Nintendo made new games without using their new and advanced MotionPlus technology. At E3 I expect a lot of high quality M+ titles to be announced. Iwata said E3 will be big, so think big.

Well it's not like the other systems are making any "top of the line" games that arent just more FPS at least the wii FPS add something new to the genre.

Huh?

The other systems have many quality games that aren't of the FPS genre.

You could take every FPS game away from the PS3 and 360 and they'd both still have a better line up.

Oh yes, something as wildly different as game tastes and opinions mean fact! Do go on! Not that malnin didn't make a stupid post, mind.

When the general consensus of opinions agree that the Wii's library of games is much inferior to its competitors, it's often recognized as fact.

You can think otherwise because we're all little snowflakes but there's only one genre the Wii does better and that's a genre most Wii owners ignore.

Objection

Getting heated and I'm not here yet? Just kidding I don't aim for anything like that! Anyway, I think having 20 games ranked above 85 is awesome. Sure other systems now may have 20 that are higher than that but its alot better than the GCN and that's what it's all about. Mind, I still love my GCN library. Peace.

Ooh, I want to know how many of mine get flagged! Can we keep a running scoreboard?

I don't really care about Metacritic. No video game critic can convince me to like a certain game. For example,I think Majora's Mask might be the greatest game ever made. But of course the video game critics are going to disagree. But everyone should have their own opinion, not listen to Metacritic all the time.

Beautiful friendship? LOL!

Anyway, to the point, it's not that bad. I know they need some catch up to the PS3 and Xbox 360, but the top 20 list doesn't suck that badly. Check out the N-Gage Top 20 list on Metacritics. Now that's what you call pathetic.

And Alexsay, please I'm begging you. Don't make a Youtube rant about why the Wii sucks so badly. If you promise not to, I'll respect you and in return, you respect me, deal?

So,somebody finally agrees with me!
Friendship request accepted!
Yeah,I think Ocarina of Time is an awesome game, but it is not the best Zelda game ever. But,I'll save that topic for later, after I beat the game (which is going to take awhile).

I believe reviewers hold DS and Wii games to the exact same standards of PSP and PS3/360 games, which is an impossible standard.

While I'm sure some reviewers do judge them as equals and knock off for the lack of HD or visual prowess at times, I still believe most of the review scores the Wii games have received have been fair.

@Corbie: thats about what I got from that too.

for the original question: (yes, i'm list-crazy today. if it seems like i'm nitpicking, you asked for opinions, so i intend to give mine fully)
1 - if a multi-platform game is that damn good, thats not really a detriment
2 - what's wrong with 4 WiiWare titles in a top 20? should they be lower because they are downloadable? On that same note then, any game from a previous generation should be lower on best reviewed games of all time because they're older. Some things don't need to be big or released traditionally to be fun
3 - see point 1. Also, have you played World of Goo? I can honestly say that it deserves that score. By comparison, the next game on the list (in my opinion) has an inflated score due to its huge name. (Controller reading, pathetic online, TRIPPING, and unnecessary changes from the previous are all definite issues, and this is coming from someone who bought it on launch day, and followed the DOJO)
4 - people seem to like music/rhythm games. I'm stumped too, but let them have their fun.
5 - true, but their also that damn good that I consider myself lucky to own them on a system with a control scheme that they're intended for.
6 - 9 (tee hee) is a sequel. once again, new control scheme, and completely redone
7 - whats wrong with puzzle games? I used to think they were simple, but now the most played games on my console (currently) are the art style games. and of course, tetris is always awesome. give them a chance.
8 - the lack of sports titles is a concern, as developers have tried multiple approaches and still don't seem to be finding critical success (i don't know about commercial success, I haven't been following). which brings me to my next point: i wouldn't be suprised if people just didn't care about those genres on wii. they certainly aren't as big as music games anymore (i could be wrong, I don't know the numbers) and there are generally better alternatives on other consoles. even if there were better sports or racing games, they don't necessarily have to be in the top 20.
9 - another true issue, still, that depends on who is doing the review or article. also, I've never really been a fan of Metacritic's weightings (if I have to, I prefer GameRankings'), and neither have several reviewers themselves (Adam Sessler of G4, for example)
10 - one could make a case that the fewer franchises are represented, the better the ones that are there are. also, 15 out of 20 is pretty good in my book

in summation, I wouldn't say the Wii's games are inferior, only different. Yes it's frustrating (I'm also a 3D fighter fan, yet I have no real option on the console that I know of), but I don't think its an inherent flaw. Hopefully next generation (I think its too late for the current) Nintendo will finally settle on a control scheme more normal yet still unique (I have one in mind, but I can always dream that I can sell it to them) and a graphic quality comparable to the others, so that we can experience the best of the different and the same.

Eh, I've got over 30 disc titles on my shelf and dozens of downloads, so I'm well pleased. Metacritic can go hang itself for all I care. Of course I was an Atari Jaguar owner during the Playstation/N64 era, so I'm used to going against the grain.
