The new Nintendo Power which I recieved today is rife with great previews and interviews, but the most informative is the interview with Miyamoto himself. He dropped all kinds of knowledge on NSMBWii. For one, he said that, contrary to popular belief, the game was actually built with the single player experience in mind (good news, I say), but they found that having more players in the levels simply made it more fun. He also talked about wanting to make it challenging, and yes: the Koopa Kids are in the game. He didn't offer a whole lot of new information on SMG2, except he did say that it was aimed at the hardcore gamer.
Things started getting interesting when they talked about the new Zelda. He said that it wouldn't be radically different (as we all know). He said that given the nature of Zelda, it can be easy to get carried away with a bunch of crazy ideas (I'm paraphrasing) but he wants to focus on accessible gameplay and highlight the things that are important to the Zelda franchise, and the things that make Zelda work. He also said that the artsyle will be pretty similar to that of Twilight Princess, but given that it's running on the Wii only, and not the Gamecube, there will be some inherent differences.
Things are going to be kind of different, though, it seems. He talked about how he wants everyone playing this game to have a different, unique experience. Personally, that kinds of reminds me of Silent Hill: Shattered Memories, which is a good thing. Nintendo Power tried to get him to go on record about whether or not the girl in the painting is, in fact, the Master Sword. He said if he said anything too specific he'd get in trouble. He did say that the girl is the most important part of the artwork, and that we should note that in the painting, Link is holding a sheild, but no sword. Sounds like we were right, to me
The interviewer's last question was "And of course, I have to ask: Have you given any thought to putting a new Kid Icarus game on Wii or DS". His answer was "Wait, please. I'm really surprised at how popular that is!". So...sounds like he's maybe put some thought into it, but hasn't actually started working on anything IMO.
Anyway, thought I'd pass on the info.

Glad to hear NSMBWii won't put too much emphasis on multi-player. Sure, it would be fun to blow through some levels with some of your buddies, but Super Merio Bros. is really a solo game at heart. And hooray for the return of the Koopa Kids!
I'm now in my late 20s. My girlfriend doesn't like games except Boom Blox. I have just moved to a new area. So there is no chance of local multiplayer for me. With no online in 2009 SMBWii has to offer a good single player experience.
He also said that there won't be any other playable characters besides Mario, Luigi, and the Toads; which is...a bit lame. Still going to buy it though (who won't?)

Where can I see this painting? I haven't seen it, for whatever reason.

I think the Yoshis, Koopalings and new powers make up for the lack of playable character selection.
I flipped through the issue at a magazine stand. Think i'll buy it later.
This one's worth it. There's really great previews of Fragile, Mario and Luigi 3, Metroid Prime Trilogy, Wii Sports Resort. There's also a great review of Little King's Story. Nintendo Power isn't consistantly great, but this is a great issue.

The current issue of Nintendo Power Magazine(August issue) is definitely the best issue I've read in a long time! It has tons of cool stuff! I would highly recommend that anyone who doesn't have this issue already to pick it up; it's totally worth it!
I think not! You were expecting maybe......Sonic Le Hedgehog? j/k
Hang on, now! I'm not saying that Mario and Luigi are lame; I just think that it would've been cool if they would've had Wario, Waluigi, and Peach instead of just two random toads. But whatever. It's the gameplay that counts.

For New Super Mario Bros. Wii: Yes! I was hoping it would be suited for just one player. I can't do too much local multiplayer. For Zelda: Sounds great. And that little girl probably IS the sword. For New Kid Icarus: YES! I can't wait if it's true. The one for NES is great fun! Thanks Kid_A for all the info. I gotta get this issue. (In the mail. When is it getting here?!)
How do you get five Charizards and two Bulbasaurs on a bus? You poke 'em on! What type of Pokémon is Butterfree? A low-fat one! What are the only three Spanish Pokémon? ArticUNO ZapDOS MolTRES!
I usually get mine a week after they update their website. This one took a little longer. I'm pretty sure it depends on where you live in relation to wherever they ship them out.
