Yeah, I was just getting into comments like that in general ('rant') and I don't mean anything real bad or serious. Sorry, too.

I played through Gears of War, with my brother before, and I enjoyed as much! lol I recently downloaded a demo of CoD4, haven't had a chance to play it though.

Actually, I pretty much agreed to the quotes in more ways than one, just that I'm more glad to play non-FPS, than them.

Historical Note:
I was heavily into Doom II around when it was released (multiplayer, map making, etc.) for a couple years.

I really enjoyed them with a keyboard & mouse, but with the Wii, yes, I do think it's awesome if not better with use of t.v. and whole experience.

Thanks for reading (and understanding!) =D
Comment you later, folks!

So are u saying u regret buying ur wii since the controls arent as good as dual analog? And also an idea ive had for a while, what do u think about companies making the vc controller their dual analog controller? i think the new pro vc controller really looks like an xbox or ps system controller and cud work for companies that want dual analog...what u think of that?

Nah, the Wii is fine. The controls overall aren't as good but they work for some games like Tiger and Boom Blox. Plus the Wii is my only way of playing MLB Power Pros and that's huge.

And the problem with using the virtual console controller (besides what someone has already said) is it cuts out a significant portion of your user base.
Unless dual-analog was just another option, like in Mario Kart, but I don't see many developers jumping on that.

"Downgrade" is totally subjective. If a games graphical style can be implemented well enough to carry a particular story forward or even get you slightly into the game; i.e. shooting smily faces or pixelated ducks. "someone that has played dual analog controllers for years" is actually not as common as you may think. Even for those that have, ultimately the experience of a "FPS" or "First Person Shooter" literally means a game that simulates the first person view of walking around shooting stuff, so a true FPS shooter purist would want to be able to have total control over aiming as if holding a gun which only the Wii IR can do. Sure, there are other limitations to the systems, thats not what the discussion is about. it's simply whether the a FPS works on the Wii. I'd say it works fantastically.
Bring em' on; they can only get better over time, I'd say someone should make cheap compilations of old classic ones, too, it's totally a cash cow and a no brainer for the Wii controls as the topic head suggested.

When we get a Wii HD or something that'll change everything, but until then FPS are still damn fun when you can actually aim a gun at things instead of shifting around a joystick to move your aimer. It's downright ridiculous to argue that that is somehow better than actually pointing at things.

No it's not.

When everything from physics to AI to graphics and more is made worse, that's a downgrade.

It's as simple as that.

i love fps on the Wii theres just not many good ones. Conduit,Cod WAW, Medal of Honor Heroes 2, Metroid Prime 3 is slightly but also adventure. The rest have pretty much sucked. Though those games that do control good make me want to forget the dual analog days. There are exceptions though like Halo and Halo 2.

Ren

yes it is.

if you assume that every game starts with some kind of aspirations to look like photorealistic motion, maybe. but designing a game doesn't work that way - every one is different and the specs are taken into considered before starting unless you're talking about a port, which we aren't.

It's not a "downgrade" unless you, as a designer, see it as such and that would hinder your creativity in the first place. A great game doesn't come from tech specs, it comes from well designed software that best utilizes the hardware it was meant to be played on - in this case hardware that includes an ir controller with a joystick and some buttons attached by a wire, which are ideal for FPS's. If you can optimize what it CAN do to get you running around shooting stuff in a way that's pretty fun that's all that matters.
Game design is an art form that produces material whose end product is never definitively good or bad to everyone, since it's made to be experience by anyone. This also denies any kind of subjectivity in a "universal" design approach. Specs be damned in that case. If you're talking about HD or ports or something, that's a different story, thats not the issue here.

metroid is a prime example (no pun intended) of why a great fps can exist without uber hardware, so no FPS do not need to be downgraded on wii

Anyone who doubts the Wii as a platform for FPS, is more than likely talking out of there ass. It's up there with keyboard and mouse, while dual analogue is a throw back from the last generation (hence why S&M are playing catch up now).

Ren, the only reason Wii-only games technically aren't downgrades, is because there's no superior version to judge them by.

Not it's not.

If you don't think Metroid could have been better in every possible way on a HD console, you're loony.

The power of a console isn't just used for graphics; Wii fans need to understand that.

Apparently not everyone knows what I'm saying, because there's two people that don't follow. lol

Yeahh you kinda do. Have you ever played a FPS on another console?

You can have your fingers on six or seven buttons (All of which are regularly used) at any time. That can't be replicated yet on a Wii remote.

Let me say something quick:
we need to understand that
we're talking about using a frakken gun like device and controller!
and you don't need a zillion buttons and sh**
There are even better ways to play, simply.
AlexSays: So your saying we play games, and you want us to know about HD consoles.
It's ok to say your opinion I guess, but not to state what we already know again and again.
(Feels like other-console-fanatics should be told over and over again instead to get it (Wii FPS etc.)
Hence this thread.
Bye.

Metroid Prime 1 was better than Prime 3 and that ran on the gamecube.....

So yeah, that is what I understand....

No game is 'better in every possible way' on 'hd consoles'. No idea what that is supposed to mean......Onslaught is a great FPS on wii, lol on impossible to make FPS on the wimote because of lack of buttons ? ? ? .....!

IGN: The holiday Wii lineup looks thin for the hardcore crowd. We see this. Gamers see this. What, if anything, is Nintendo planning to address it?

Oh good, I am neither a gamer or hardcore. Saves me from having to be IGNorant.

Well I'm glad you understand something.

It might never be anything I say, but at least you have this.

Every FPS game, yes.

Physics, AI, graphics, and everything else are all much much better on the more powerful consoles.

I can have my two very hands holding down the Z, C, A, B, down on the d-pad, and hit the - or + buttons just fine and my hands are average sized.
(1 & 2 buttons are the pause and select buttons for FPS if your wondering.)

So holding 6 or 7 buttons can be found not only on HD 360/PS3 but also on Wii.

And to be honest MP1 is not better than MP3. I can`t think of one thing MP1 did better than MP3.

No it's not possible on Wii and you just proved this.

Sure you can switch to others quickly, but you can only be holding the Z, C, A, and B without moving any fingers.

On my PS3 controller I can hold the four shoulder buttons, two of the buttons on the very right, and then have a thumb on the left dual-analog that also doubles as a button.

Even when you use your right thumb on the right analog, you still have fingers on six buttons.

If you're using the "oh well you can switch quickly" argument.. well.. you can switch to ANY button just as, if not more quickly on a standard controller. It's not that easy going from the D-pad to the 1 or 2 button.

No he isn't. You do know that MP3 was tailor-made for the Wii, right? As in, it was made to take full advantage of the console and it's motion controls. Yanking the shield off a space pirate wouldn't be nearly as satisfying with a mouse or 360 pad.

I do agree (from a tachnical standpoint at least) that FPSs would be superior all around on a PC (and to a lesser extent, a PS3/360 controller), but a decent FPS can still be done on Wii if a developer pays enough attentionb to the system's strengths (motion controls add a new sense of immersion) and weaknesses (weak graphics, limited button layout).

I know what your saying Alexsays. I have a PS3 and a 360 myself

Not neccessarily. Not if the game in questions power needs does not surpass the strength of the console it has been developed for. You just make an assumption. You can make a fine FPS within the 'limitaitons' of wii just the same as within the 'limitations' of 360 and PS3,,,,,,

They do not have to be releativly equal in processing power to have a quality FPS made on them.....your thinking on this is gneric and presumptious.

Me I like old Goldeneye-style gameplay.... and for arcade shooters, I light the light gun technology, but I'm a bit of an old foggey. A more precise Wiimote could make it more interesting.

Don't let my location fool you. I'm Québécois, not Canadian.

The_Fox

I can kind of see what Alex Says is saying.
If we take our game (our constant) and try to make it for all three consoles with the developer being able to push the systems to the same degree, then the Wii version will lose every time. It will be the ugliest, slowest and worst playing of the three.

The variables are what could save the Wii version of a game. A developer understanding the nature of the system, the different control possibilities and how to get the most out of an underpowered system all come into play here. The Wii probably can't offer something for the FPS genre the other systems can't do much better, but if a developer can work around it then you'll have some happy Wii gamers.
