Another game I recently completed for the 1st time. I passed on this when it first came out because it seemed to be yet another action game that glorifies senseless violence, and it is if you ignore the subtext and the fact that the central character who openly gets off on killing people is also made out to be a pathetic loser and ridiculed throughout the game.

Some reviewers weren't impressed with the trappings of the game or the little mini-game challenges, but I thought it was all brilliant. Driving around your bike which happily flattens lamp posts and pedestrians with ease was fun as were mini games like lawn mowing, cleaning graffiti and picking up rubbish.

The controls are nice, the nods to classic and more recent gaming are nice, the satire is amusing, the ridiculous dialogue is brilliant and you can buy it for a song. It's got bad words in it, but isn't gross or OTT like House of the Dead: Overkill. If you haven't checked it out, do so. The fact that this game got a worldwide release is terrific as is the fact that it's getting a sequel. Now that I won't miss!

I really enjoyed this game but the only thing I didnt like was Europe didnt get the blood! But its still a great game and Im looking forward to the sequal

Last night I looked up at the stars and thought "Where the hell is my roof gone!?!"

Sean_Aaron

Blood, schmud, the game looks great without it and it shouldn't put off anyone that enemies turn into piles of ash.

Objection

I've watched the Euro and NA death scenes and some of them do have big differences besides blood. Either way, though the need to play the minigames SO many times was a little annoying, I really liked NMH and await the sequel!

Dunno why people complained about the mini-games, I only found myself repeating the ones I enjoyed. Most of the cash required can be earned doing the Assassination Missions, which are all good practice for the main game, sharpening' dem skills whilst goin' for gold.
Big hint to anyone who is gonna play, Lovikov Balls, get some and quick, then make sure to bag the Memory of Child from the drunken ol' git. Makes life ALOT easier (especially when collecting scorpions).

LOVE that f***** game!

There is 1 really minor gripe I have tho'. I'll get myslef lookin' coool, then go out, smack a bin, and I'm wearing a pink t-shirt. (That made no sense ha!) I wish they didn't auto assign, newly acquired t-shirts. (That was slightly better.)

And that bit with the answerphone message from the video-store, coz Travis returned the wrong video. LMFAO!

The minigames were hilarious. Picking up rubbish and scorpions with A and then having to do an UP motion? Brilliant!

Not as bad as chargin' your Katana. I hate doing that when someone else is in the room as laughter always ensues (not helpful in the middle of a fight). I'm up to six on my re-run so far, then going for Sweet mode, as I think you are Sean. Can't wait for the sequel, it's near the top of 'my list'.

EDIT: @Sean Yeah you are right, sweet then mild, my bad.

Sounds like you need to pay a visit to Dr. Naomi.

Now Playing: Bioshock

I played Sweet first (that's the easy one right?), now I need to try Mild and go for the no-charging katana (LB1000000!!!). It will be interesting to see how the challenge changes since I did start it up again and saved before doing anything and I have the 3rd katana (unless there are even more in the harder levels?).

I was going to make this topic but I never got around to it...

No More Heroes is pretty great. It has this repetitive formula of beat boss, kill things and do mini games to earn money to unlock next ranked battle to kill next boss. But it uses it to it's advantage by doing things you don't expect almost every time it gets boring. And the boss fights themselves are awesome. The pre and post battle scenes are like little windows into who they are, and before you get to look in closely, you kill them and move on to the next.

It's really brilliant, I can't wait for the sequel.

And wow, the PAL version must be really censored if you didn't find it "gross". You should search for boss deaths of the American version, while I do the opposite. To Youtube!

If i leave my heart on this theard, is that enough love?

I love this game, just wish there was more to do during the downtime (Riding on your bike? Thats all?) But not a big gripe, Desperate Struggle is gunna be balling!!

I've seen more vids of the NA version with decapitations and the like which is pretty nifty neato, but I don't feel the European version is lesser due to the universal "explosion into ashes" deaths. Apparently the sequel is going to be the same on both sides of the pond, but possibly not get a Japanese release due to the violence quotient.

Did you watch a boss death? I watched the PAL version of Destroyman's death, and it was laughable. Poofing into dust is no where near as cool and shocking as being cut in half, while nipple guns continue to fire.

Hmmm, he got cut in half when I played it with the guns firing; he just turned into ash as it was happening...

I really loved the boss fights in No More Heroes. Henry was friggin' epic imo. One of the best boss fights I've experienced.

Scared of the future, but bored with the past.

It wasn't the same. In my version, he falls all the way to the floor, fireing the whole way down. And before that, when Travis has his sword in his chest, blood is shooting everywhere.

What is Bad Girl like? Does she just beat on you and disappear? >_>

Yay. Dr Naomi fixed my little problem. I've been working very hard and now have a fully upgraded Tsubaki Mk-III, no more waggle for Machu, yes! Suddenly those tricky free-fights are a breeze and the cash is rolling in, as I cruise around in search of the final entry fee.

And at no point does the much hyped 'lack of blood' detract from anything the game does, it's still viscous and twisted like it's deformed brother Killer7.

Eh, I still enjoyed it. Bad Girl gets impaled (there's a little blood around the sword), then she does the ash magic dissolve really groovy like.
