Wii Music could only work with MIDI. It's a ridiculous complaint to level at it. If you're worried about it being a kid's game, at least you aren't playing with some Fischer Price My First Guitar pressing four buttons in some elementary timing-based game. Wii Music is about creativity. You have to be able to change the sounds at will, not play along to a prerecorded track. It's not a game that should "punish" you. When you play a real instrument, you don't complain about lack of punishment when you play out of time. Playing out of time is its own "punishment" because it doesn't sound as good. The only legitimate complaint I see directed at the title is its music library. There's nothing wrong with the traditional songs included. They're family friendly and help to broaden the game's appeal. But they could have spent a little more time and included more Nintendo songs. It would have at the very least given the game a better reputation with traditional gamers, I think, who generally find about 5-10 songs on the disc that they like. The talented Wii Musician will make something good out of anything, even something as simple as Frere Jacques, but Nintendo did a bad job of showing that this could be done, so a more attractive song library would have lured more players in, I think.

It's increasing in a frightening pace. So far, as of now, there are 1,029 posts on that thread, 90% of which are hating on Nintendo. It's really sad how such an amazing company could receive so much hate and never be forgiven because of E3 2008. I fear for Nintendo's livelihood. Could there demise at the hands of angry former fans come soon? I hope it doesn't happen.

'frightening pace' my foot -- it's an article on the internet, and you're totally over-exaggerating. considering IGN's not exactly new to dogging Nintendo, if this 'demise at the hands of angry former fans' you keep suggesting hasn't happened yet thanks to one of their articles, it's not going to.

While I agree that they are, STOP COMPARING EVERYTHING TO IGN! One forum does not make it the most hated this gen.

For reals.

@The Fox: I never expected this much hate from Nintendo. Never in my dreams did I imagine such thing. I don't think Sony was nearly as hated as Nintendo last generation.

Wow, lot of posts in just one day.

@ryanknight717, I've got nothing against ports, but I've got a problem with the NES Classics for the GBA. You pay more then 20 Euro's for just one NES game. That's not good value no matter how good the game is. They could have easily put more classics on one GBA cartridge, this was just a lazy way to get cash out of my pockets (and they succeeded).

@grenworthshero, you missed my point entirely. The examples I gave are just about Nintendo taking the easy and lazy way out. Concerning the NES Classics for the GBA, read above. You know what's an awesome remake where Nintendo didn't take the easy way out. Metroid Zero Mission for the GBA. That game was amazing and not only did you get the remake, you get the original too as an unlockable. Now that is fan service. Job well done Nintendo. Well done.

Concerning that Nintendo never needed to give as Mii's is ridiculous. They gave us Mii's but because of the lack of some options, it's difficult to make an accurate Mii of yourself. Would it be that difficult to put some more effort and attention to detail into it?

I haven't talked about third-party games in my post so I'll skip that. But Nintendo choosing the easy way out to develop Wii Music for example instead of resurrecting old franchises is just lazy. No Kid Icarus, no Kirby, no Star Fox, no F-Zero and so on, and so on. While they have the characters in Brawl, why not take the next step. About the Wii reaching full potentional at the end of it's life cycle is just nonsense. If you wait till the end to impress, everybody is looking at the next generation and then it's too late.

When there's no more room in hell, the dead will walk the earth.

As a lazy person who doesn't care about much, I don't really blame Nintendo. This is the good life.

NES Classics for the gba was pretty lazy.lol
by the way does anybody else think that NSMBW should have
been on wii ware?Because i think that game is grossly overpiced.Thats just me

what?

Adam

Anyone else think that games that wouldn't fit on WiiWare by any stretch of the imagination should be on WiiWare despite being more fun than most games for other consoles which cost more? That's just me.

I do agree with some of the points that Matt makes, and in part it's because he's not a Nintendo hater. I may not always agree with him (he called Water Warfare a dog turd, but I love having a fun FPS I can play in front of, and with, my kids), but he's right that there are some things Nintendo has failed to do that are just inexplicable. For instance, why can't the Wii play DVDs? It's not essential or anything, but it wouldn't take that much effort to make it possible for those consumers who would appreciate the feature. And, while I'm not the biggest fan of the PS2 (I had one for over a year as a consolation prize when I couldn't find a Wii anywhere, and found very few games that appealed to me and even fewer quality titles that I could play when my kids were awake), it at least had that "amazing" ability.

Having a distinct fourth character in NSMBW would also have been nice, as I have heard it can be hard to tell the Toads apart when things get chaotic. I'm sure it's a great game (it's on my Christmas wish list), but it wouldn't have been that hard to add a balanced fourth character--at least Toadette.

Finally, I have mixed feelings about Animal Crossing. It is still just as fun as its predecessors, and the addition of town upgrades and GracieGrace furniture on top of the other goals of the game has definitely added something. Still, so much more could have been done, and Nintendo's unwillingness to allow games to be patched means that the "animal tracks" problem will never be solved. I used to love running across town!

With all that said, I am making these criticisms as a true fan of Nintendo. They are the only company that consistently produces high-quality family-friendly games, instead of a family-friendly title here or there. Even if I didn't have kids, I would probably still stick to Nintendo because most of their games are so much more FUN than the competition's. No need for achievements when the game is fun to play all by itself! The fact that I get to play these fun games with or in front of my kids just makes the deal that much sweeter. I love Nintendo, but I hope that one day they will stop holding themselves back and go ahead and try some of the things that DO work on the other consoles.

Homebrew users say the Wii disc reader is too loud when playing DVDs. Nintendo had talked about a potential hardware add-on to make it play DVDs, but I can't see anyone bothering with that. DVD players aren't exactly expensive, and who doesn't have one already?

IGN is spot on 100%, in fact, too lite for my taste. Lazyness or lack of hardware power, any of these or both, but the result is in most cases quite sad. That IGN guy should remember that ZTP is not even any original Wii game, but a quick conversion of the NGC version, so his list is reduced to Mario Galaxy alone.

They care too much about casual gamers now. Nintendo fans who play actual games are getting the short end of a greasy stick.

Uh oh. He's back.

I know. I'm so mad that they're making Other M, Galaxy 2, and a new Zelda. All for casuals. What a rip-off. I'm going get an Xbox. And don't even get me started on NSMBW. I mean, who would even buy a Wii if they like traditional Mario games?

I did not exactly mean that ALL games were for casuals, derp. I'm happy we get some good games, like the ones you listed. But there is a lot more casual-directed crap on the system. Not enough real games.

why are you even talking about it then? you clearly hate the game enough not to buy it which here is abnormal. Why do your think your thoughts are objective?

It also keeps the same uninteresting aesthetic from the original NSMB.
The older SMB games (and SMW) had much better aesthetics.

yeah, because Nintendo hasn't improved the Mario platformer aesthetic at all

New SMB Wii looks worse than Super Mario World? Personally I think they look ridiculously similar (although New SMB is clearly better). One of us is delusional, I don't think its me

Stuff that is enjoyable. Genuine games that are playable, do not have clunky controls or stupid, sit and stare gameplay. Games that can be played and enjoyed by casual or core gamers. Examples include Super Mario World, OoT, Other M, Metroid Prime Trilogy, New Super Mario Bros, Wii Sports Resort, and tons more games. Examples of crap include Birthday Party Bash, Wii Play, Baseball (NES), mySims Camera, Master of Illusion, My Pokemon Ranch and still tons more.
