i for one actually like the idea of that as of course the idea of a new console would excite any gamer or should i say true gamer for what it may contain and its ability to do so

Its not like HD consoles don't work on SD TV's, if it is HD it will definitely have SD support.

possibly sd wii2 games can be scaled or however u call it if your playing on a hd tv if on a sd tv it just uses its regular format however for hd games its gonna look great but not hdtv great i mean a ps3 game on my old tv like uncharted 2 looks good on a sd tv anyways

I bet an HD wii is gonna cost alot of money. That's why the wii was SD in the first place.

The article makes it pretty clear that, as Machu briefly mentioned, they want to have great hardware but let the DEVELOPERS choose whether or not to take full advantage of it. So all these shovelware-making fools can keep making it on the cheap (knowing that those who care about HD won't buy into that garbage anyway) while GOOD developers making games that can really benefit from HD can put in the extra effort and cost to make their games the best they can be.

There IS a difference between the PS3 and the 360 when it comes to SD compliance. The 360 has a LOT more games with "fullscreen" modes, whereas the PS3 tends to letterbox everything on SDTV's. I think Nintendo wants to go more the route of the 360 on that particular sub-point.

Also, who thinks they'll release an HD console before the next Pikmin game comes out? We heard it straight from Miyamoto, after all!

Couldn't agree with you more. Ninty can wait on Pikmin 3 for all I care, but I hope I don't have to wait for NEW New Play Control Pikmin 2!

btw, this may shock some of you, but Modern Warfare 2 for the PS3 and 360 is only 600p, it's not that big of a deal.

Xbox 360 arcade is HD, and was less than a Wii before the Wii's price cut. The Wii was SD because Nintendo doesn't really care about graphics, and the Wii was being developed very soon after the Gamecube was released.

To be fair, HD USED to cost more than it does now. Clearly, putting HD in a Nintendo console wouldn't carry excessive cost anymore, but three years ago, it probably did. Especially when you consider that Microsoft is STILL selling the 360 at either a loss, or far less of a profit than Nintendo is with the Wii right now.

A non-HD console in the next generation would be a laughing stock. Nintendo was fortunate to get away with one in this generation.

I hope they adjust accordingly the size limitations for downloadable games and channels.

Well, friend, let me tell you even more plainly than my original post may have let on (if that's possible) that I'm not bashing the Wii and I never have. Moreover, we're not talking about the Wii here, but rather Nintendo's next generation console. As for your trying to show me the door, well... how about I just smile and stare at that signature of yours for a while instead?
