Topic: Nintendo finally reveals why there are not making many hardcore games...and they insult core gamers too.

I don't see anything wrong with what was said at all, they simply state that core gamers want more from Nintendo, if they didn't that would be bad, if they just churned out minor updates of franchises every year instead of working hard on new and original content, then they wouldn't be Nintendo anymore in fact that would make them EA, I'm not saying I'm a fan of all Nintendos newer games especially the casual oriented ones, but at least they are trying to be creative which is better than being lazy.

Kotaku has taken whole quote completely out of its original context, and even changed wording little bit. This is what I really, really love about the Internet. Now everybody is just quoting Kotaku's bullshit instead of actually reading actual source, and thing spreads like wildfire. Oh well, at least console warriors and butthurt fanboys will be happy.

How can you?

Also, hooray, another strong showing for journalism, blowing a random quote out of proportion and out of context just to stir the pot and attract attention to themselves. All companies have the very same attitude. This is nothing new. Nintendo may be more willing to slow the release schedule than I'd like lately, but hopefully this is just because they're priming their main franchises for Motion+. With E3 weeks away, what is the point in being so alarmed right now? Just be a bit patient, and complain after the show if still dissatisfied.

Actually, I like this quote a lot more:

the source wrote:

Bitmob: I know what the hardcore audience wants, and I suspect that you do, too. Is there something more that you can do besides revitalizing decades-old franchises for them? That's what they want -- they want a new Mario game, they want a new Zelda game. What else can Nintendo do to appease that hardcore audience?

Kaigler: Do you think we can? [laughs] How are you defining "hardcore"? Now, you define yourself as a core gamer. Do you really want to be put into a box? Do you really want someone to say, "Here's a hardcore gamer, there you go -- you do that." Or do you want to be part of a broader community that wants to have fun, that wants to be surprised, that wants to have this immersive experience in games that you can't find any place else?

Glad to see someone at Nintendo combating this useless terminology, finally.

I'm not even sure what the quote said. I saw the picture of Rosie in S&M gear and spent all morning dry heaving over my toliet bowl.

"The government of the United States is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion."

Am I the only one that thinks Rosie in S&M is kinda hot!

Well, I don't know who Nintendo are making games for, but that picture is definitely for a niche market.

I secound that.

I rule when it comes to games. So deal with it.

Not bothered at all by that quote. Typical b.s. politics....

Hardcore, casual = marketing. The real divide is between arcade and narrative games.

Yes. Yes, you are.

Not sure why this article is even being discussed. It sounds nothing more than all the other crap that's been spreading around the internet like mad lately. Nothing new. Let's just wait for E3 and then we might really have something to complain about.

I took the link from Kotaku to read the original interview. The way she broke down the "hardcore" concept is valid, and appreciated. But here's the quote that bugs ME:

"I will give you that hardcore gamers have an insatiable appetite for everything Nintendo," she said, "and we love that! We love that. When we get to a point where core gamers say, "OK, Nintendo, enough! We don't need any more games from you guys...." None of us wants to be put in that position, right?"

The main flaw I see here is the concept that Nintendo can give us so many great games that we ask them to stop. That has never, EVER happened in the entire history of Nintendo, so what the heck makes her think it'll happen now?

Even with that said, I'm really quite content with the current status of Wii retail releases (well, once we finally get a release date for Pikmin 2 in North America...). My problem with Nintendo stems from the lack of quantity OR quality on Nintendo's download services of late (particularly Virtual Console), which wasn't even addressed in this interview (the existence of the services was briefly mentioned, related to a question about the possible threat from OnLive and whatnot)! Can no one get an interview with Nintendo that asks what's up with THAT?

the problem I had with that quote is that there's so many people out there both supporting and deriding almost every game. Galaxy, SSBB, Zelda, Wii Sports, Mario Kart... all have their fair share of people who like and do not like them. She's talking as if there were a way to please everyone with one single magical game, and there is no such way.

I'd sure like to see them try, though. Maybe I'd get lucky and be in the half of their consumer base that is thrilled with what they come out with. :3

I think it's more that "hardcore" gamers are just spoiled now a days and it's killing our favorite hobby, in my honest opinion. 20 years ago the likes of Twilight Princess, Metroid Prime 3, Super Mario Galaxy, Super Smash Bros Brawl, Mario Kart, Warioland, Excitebots and Punch-Out would've been more than enough quality games to satisfy console owners but instead we find faults in all these exceptional titles and bitch that it's not enough, or that the competition is so much better. Spoiled brats! Either give these games the appriciation they deserve or go buy yourself a competing console. It's that simple.
I LOVE my Wii and it's hands down the best console Nintendo has put out sinse the SNES, maybe even better than that considering most of the best games are or will be available to download on it anyway. Nintendo as a company sucks right now, there's no denying that, but don't let their poor business tactics take away from your enjoyment of the games that are already out now. Go back and play through Twilight Princess or Super Mario Galaxy again. You may find that you've only utilized a small portion of the enjoyment these games provide. Just because you've beaten a game doesn't mean you can't enjoy playing through another time and you might even find something you didn't notice the first time around.

Future Wii purchases:
Super Mario Galaxy 2
Metroid: Other M
Zelda Wii
New Super Mario Bros. Wii
Sin and Punishment 2

(imo) apart from the nintendo suck bit, I find my self agreeing with a lot of that, and of course there are also great non nintendo made 'non casual' titles eg - madworld and PES 09, Ide love to see Smash Bros on VC and Starfox Wii (or F-Zero) but hey agreed its not all bad.
Think i will get sim city snes next - thanks nintendo
