I'm a newbie to the wii system...
I just picked up a used wii from ebay that comes with wii sports and super mario and call of duty. Comes with 2 controllers with the cross keypad and 2 controlers with the thumb button that sticks out (sorry about the terminology) The manual is white on top with the work Wii on it and gray at the bottom.
Can this wii play all the newer Lego brand games? Like batman/star wars/pirates of carib and the dancing game? Having problems understanding what games will work with the older system.
Also would you rec getting the dongle that converts the composite signal into the hdmi slot of our tv?
I don't see why it can't play any Wii games. The Wii Mini doesn't support online, but most if the Wii's online servers are gone anyway (plus the Wii Mini is Red, and it doesn't sound as if you got one of those). The older model of the Wii could run GameCube games, but that's the only difference. There are no Wii games exclusive to a newer model or anything like that.
Thanks! Yes those controllers with the wii are the ones i just picked up from ebay...
Great! I wasn't sure if newer games played with only newer consoles. Like Lego Pirates of the Caribbean or Lego batman...I thought it worked similar to computers where you had to have a minmum processor or graphics card...etc.

This is one of the advantages of consoles. They're streamlined with set specs, so you never have to worry about that. Your Wii will play all Wii software, a PS3 will play all PS3 software, an Xbox will play all Xbox software, etc. You just take it out of the box, turn it on, and all the games work.
Well... "work" may be subjective. I'm not sure I would say that the new Assassin's Creed game "works," but that has nothing to do with the console specs.
So Anakin kneels before Monster Mash and pledges his loyalty to the graveyard smash.
Quick throw-in:
older Wii models have a less sturdy disc drive, so if you're playing Wii titles that run on a Dual-Layer disc (Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Metroid Prime Trilogy, Metroid: Other M, and some I can't recall), your disc drive might start acting up over time. I've had this happen to my Wii, and it can't read anything anymore by now. But as far as I've heard, this doesn't happen often.
Dual layer disc from my experience won’t even work on an older system the disk wont even be read to begin with,I found this out when I was trying to mod one using the smash brothers MOD
