Any save game with online data can't be moved off the Wii, something to do with the individual machine's friend code data or somesuch. It's nonsense really.

@BellGoRiiing: because they use Wi-Fi. idk why exactly (only Nintendo knows for sure, lol), but from what i've heard, Wi-Fi games won't copy to the SD card successfully. you'd think they'd let you at least copy all the non-wi-fi data, but it must all be linked somehow. :/ what panda said, lol :3

If you feel that way, don't get a Xbox 360. You'll be sending it off to the shop way more than the Wii, and sometimes it won't be in their best interest to fix the machine for you.

It sucks but at least you learned a valuable lesson from this - always back up your save files on an SD card in case your files on the Wii get corrupted.

A) already have a 360. meh

B) Yeah, if I don't give up on the Wii as it is. Seriously. I might just do cut my losses at this point.

Well, then I feel sorry for MS if it dies and they refuse to fix it for you. I've known a lot of people in that predicament...

You've already accumulated losses buying the system, but you can't get them back selling the system + games. It's just not worth it. The price you will get for selling the system is abysmal, especially if you sell it at a game store like Gamestop. Even online you have to add in a bunch of items to boost up buyers' incentives to purchase your Wii when they could go out and just buy a brand new Wii. You have better luck just waiting it out and seeing if something comes out that you want. But really, if you're willing to get rid of all your games just because of the save files, how big were you into them in the first place? I know it's discouraging, but it seems kinda silly to up and sell all your games just because you lost the save files.

@feder: have you ever had a save file erased on accident before? times that by however many Wii/VC/WiiWare games OB has, and maybe you can get the feel for the kind of despair he's probably feeling while staring at his empty Wii Menu. How many hours did he have to put into Brawl alone just to get it to 98% completion? and what about all the other games he has? all that work wasted because 4.whatever-it's-at-now bricked his Wii through no fault of his own.

thank goodness for sites that host save files, that'll help replace most of what he's lost, but still... geez, what a crappy situation. :/

Well, its like you beat a game and you like it so you keep it.
But if you lost all the progress, unlockables, etc. would you keep it still?

Maybe, maybe not.

And hell no,I'm not trading them into GS, but Wii games have surprisingly high resale value on eBay/

@TBD-thanks, you pretty much said it all. I lost 22 VC/WW games (that I have to re-download) plus their save data, plus save data for 20 plus games. And yeah, some games are worth going through again, but not sure Brawl is.

I would feel the same way...but I wouldn't go and sell everything, would have to deal with it and unlock everything again and all that.

Just a few things, though: The newer models of the 360 seem to have a failure rate much more in line with an acceptable figure, and it has a detachable hard drive. You'd never lose your game saves.

That'd proably take me 1,000+ hours, since I had 150 in Brawl alone. DOing stuff I've done before, having 50% as much fun or less. Or I coudl use those 1,000 hours playing new games or saving people from fire-breathing kittens.

maybe you and I wouldn't, BellGoRiiing; i'm just saying that it's not that silly for someone to just want to throw in the towel at that point.

edit: wait, when did they start making fire-breathing kittens? I WANT ONE~

This is indeed true. I have such a model (20GB) and it does indeed have a detachable HD which I love, as I bring it to college to play my games on my roommate's 360 while leaving my system behind. (Poor lonely xbox.)

I wasn't talking about save files, but just the system in general. If the warranty is up or they think it's your fault, they won't fix it.
Regardless of the improved failure rate, the 360 still has the worst failure rate of any of the three consoles. I wouldn't say they're out of water yet.

Sounds pretty awful. I wouldn't take this as a sign to quit Wii, but perhaps to decide which games you really weren't interested in playing anymore. At least to me, if a game save data (of a completely beaten game) got wiped and I decided it wasn't worth it to play it anymore, that to me would be more a sign that I was done with it anyways. Because, while I totally understand the "I don't want to go through all that again" thing, it's also kind of like "Well, it's obviously not THAT fun if it's a chore to have to play through it again" if that makes sense.

I'd say it's time to move on to new games, but I haven't been able to find a solid Wii game to sweep me off my feet lately. I guess I'll be waiting for Skyward Sword.

There are some games that, sadly, you can't back up on an SD card (Animal Crossing, Brawl, etc.) for the most mind-boggling of reasons, but it's reasons like this that I make it a point to back up all my save data on a monthly basis. First Saturday of every month, I spend the first half hour of my day backing up my Wii save data that has changed. It kind of reminds me of when my GameCube memory card went bad because, evidently, it was in my Wii (it was the big 1000+ one). I lost 70 games worth of data, but I have begun to rebuild and I did have some of my Tales of Symphonia data saved on another card. Wasn't as far as I was before, but I'm glad I had it.

Incidently, the game I'll be most broken up over if I lost it's save data would be Animal Crossing: City Folk... I've played DAILY ever since the December of the year in which it came out. That's almost two years... and I'm still trying to get that danged Gold Axe...

I miss the days in which it was so much easier when save data was stored to the cartridge...

If your Xbox 360 breaks your warranty is extented. It's been two years since I got my Xbox, and the warranty is still good, and apparantly will be for a while.

damn, dude, I'm sorry. I feel your pain.
I was robbed a few years back and experienced the exact opposite of that. No games, but plenty of save files. I can understand your frustration and impulse to just sell the games, that's how I felt. I knew I could just rebuy the games and continue right where I left off, but it was just so discouraging to even start thinking about.

yeah, pretty much. kudos to captaindingo and lockelocke for capturing some of my feelings here. I wont give up on Wii (managed to download about 1/3 of my WW/VC back tonight,) but I do plan to let go of a few games. Look for them in the trading thread or on ebay.
