Topic: Morgan Webb bashes Super Mario Galaxy 2 for being "cartoony".

It is not void in the context. Where do you get that from? She was explaining that her preference for non-cartoony games was not meant as criticism. I'm not sure how many times we can go over this: Opinion is not the same as argument.

No one said you were forced to disagree. What are you even getting at now? One moment she's basically a racist (just kidding), then she's a Mario basher, and now this has disintegrated into... what exactly? You've revised your reaction to her completely ordinary comments so many times that I don't know what the argument is anymore. I hope we're at least moving toward a revision to eventually include, "Oh, she doesn't like Mario, so what."

My original argument was that just because she acknowledges that people like the game and there's reasons why doesn't mean she's untouchable and not criticising the game. That's always been the basis of my argument and then an argument started over my analogy and the way she's been represented. You claimed it's just her opinion and the way she feels about and not the quality of the game I pointed out that she was talking universally and you dismissed it by saying she's right and that it's not in relation to her acknowledging that there's reasons people like it.And I never said she was basically a racist, that's strawmanning my position.

The stuff about her bashing the Wii was my view on the issue that she doesn't seem to like the Wii anyway and I got labelled a Fanboy for that. EDIT: Which is something that goes on a lot on this site, if someone defends Nintendo or expresses dislike for something on another system they get labelled a fanboy and it's annoying.

I might have missed something but that's a decent summary I feel.

EDIT2: Looking back, I did miss something out, it all goes back to my misunderstanding of bashing. My bad.

No one said she's untouchable. I'd touch that.

I said (just kidding). I thought it'd be an obvious joke even without that, but apparently that wasn't enough. The point was, your analogy was over the top and inaccurate, and everyone but you agrees.

I said her comment about it being too cartoony for her was just her opinion, which is obviously and irrefutably so. That is the topic of the thread (see title) and the extent of my involvement in the discussion. Her arguments about the story and Luma are ones I share, but I never said they were untouchable.

She's also not bashing the Wii, at least not in this video. We've already gone over that.

Edit: Yea, I think that is it; that, and misunderstandings born from the intentionally misleading editing job.

Sure, I think Webb would make a pretty good Spider-Man.

Wait, I think I'm lost. Can someone remind me which matter of utter inconsequence we're fighting about this time?

I think we're talking about why the next Zelda should be set on Wuhu Island.

@Oregano
I don't recall directly calling you anything. I was addressing a larger issue.

And as for the second part, I assumed we were talking about peoples opinions about the Wii and motion controls when it was first released. I guess not?

I enjoy playing Super Mario Galaxy 2 no matter how much people make fun of me for doing it! If people make fun of you, they aren't your real friends.

Hearing stupid comments like "I don't like this game because it's cartoony and I'm not 4 any more" or "Super Mario Galaxy [1] is too kiddy for me. BTW the Burp Gun in R&C is hilarious!!!!" are just annoying for people that take games seriously.

I would understand if she said the same thing about Klonoa, since the voice acting is a bit over-the-top in that game.
But I don't see any aspect of SMG2 where the game is specifically geared to the 4-year-old age demographic. And she gets paid to say this.

No I meant when the Wii was first revealed at E3 she really bashed(or at least mocked) it and the motion controller, I didn't mean in this video.

Yer, my argument did change because at first I was saying she bashed it but then I found out what I thought bashing meant was wrong so then I was discussing how she did criticise it universally, not just talking about her personal experience. Is that right, or is there something I missed again?

@The Fox: You quoted me and said:

This whole "Either you're with us or you're against us" stance fanboys have is perplexing.

Which looks like your pretty directly calling me a fanboy, not talking about some wider issue.

and no I was talking about when it was just announced, at E3 before there was any real reason to criticise it or its software.

noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo this is ......super mario galaxy (massive kick to her face)

i keep being blocked ?

It's a cartoony game. I love it, but I too could do without all the hand-holding, treating hardcore Mario vets like they are retarded, and unnecessary and incessant interruptions that I have the free will to take a break, that P2 will help me, and there is a fork in the map. I'd wager all that stuff was put in for four-year-olds.

@Oregano

O.K, clearly the best way to handle this is to take it back: You said that she was anti-Wii. My response to such was to debate that even if the Wii was her least favorite, that didn't make her anti-Nintendo. I then went to talk about the "Us vs. them" mentality that seems to have sprung up. I thought it was pretty clear I wasn't directly referring to you, but perhaps it wasn't worded in the clearest way.

Really? Have you heard Mario's voice?

Have you heard Klonoa's? Have you heard Hewpoe's? And the most ridiculous voice acting I've ever heard goes to that fish whose name I can't remember. It wants you to help its mother Pamela, who has been turned evil.

Taking games seriously might be the first mistake, but even if not, taking a gaming journalist seriously would certainly be the next. I don't mean that negatively either; I'm sure the reviewers here would not like people taking them so seriously that they were "annoyed" by a harmless difference of opinion. Don't listen to her if she annoys you. Problem solved, crisis averted.

When will game devs learn that not everyone wants to be tutored? There needs to be an option to turn it off from the start.

Oh, I know Klonoa's is a hundred times worse. I was just saying that hearing Mario's voice as I play always makes me wince. Yahooooo!! Yippeee! Mama Mia! They should have kept him mute, in my opinion.

Oh god, totally. What's with that instructional DVD crap?

It's nice of Nintendo to try to help the younger audience, but try and keep it fun and challenging for the people who have been buying your stuff for over 20 years now.

She can say whatever she wants. Im a man and I have selective hearing. It comes with saying "I DO"! (you younger guys will understand one day) She is still insanely hot and her opinion is her opinion. Watch the show on mute if you gots too

.... oh and IMO Ratchet and Clank Future was better than Mario Galaxy. Id put Galaxy 2 and A Crack in Time as a dead tie in my book.
