The wait will drag on even more for me now that I know I have a copy paid off and waiting for me...

those developer videos from a while back have finally been translated/captioned.

part one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8IxtUUF-iNo&feature=player...

part two: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lHZFwdApitM&feature=player...

the remote only controls are touched on again. the camera angles more often than not allow you to accurately run where you need to by just holding the D pad in one direction, helping avoid the touchy movement people are fearing.

although it's used in combat, the 1st person mode's purpose was for inspecting the environment, and yosuke hayashi relates it to the process of dropping bombs everywhere to find secrets in the original metroids. because you're just stopping to look around, it doesn't sound like you're missing much by being frozen in place.

at 5:15 in the first clip you see the difference camera angles make. the far out shot on the left looks creepy and lonesome while the right makes things look faster and more straightforward. moving in 1st person would obviously eliminate all of the impact these camera angles were designed to have.

there's also a different composer for the CG scenes than the gameplay, apparently.

Thanks, Romulux. Part one is interesting. I'll have to watch part two when it's fully translated. Not much of interest there yet.

That was interesting. I liked the part about the time lag, but now I'm going to unintentionally intentionally notice it when I'm playing, haha. Next month's going to be sweet. :3

The first video is quite interesting:
Sakamoto:

  • My target was to create a Metroid simple enough so that can be played and undestood immediately even by monkeys and apes.
  • My target was to create a Metroid that can attract these that played old metroid 20 years ago but that have not played videogames anymore since then.
  • My target was to create a Metroid controlled in the same way as first one 20 years ago, the DPad is more than enough, cannot understand why my mates at Nintendo designed something so extremely overcomplicated and hard to understand as the nunchuck ...

Yeah, now call me biased against this "genius" and "his" targets ...

Edit:
I will add, Nintendo can put some juniors to work under Sakamoto to create as many WiiWare Dpad compatible 2D metroids as he wants. Or even better, create a decent 2D Metroid for DS.

No matter how many times you put "genius" in quotes, it doesn't change the fact that no one here called him a genius in the first place, "genius."

This is a hype thread, not a "let's put down the designer every damn chance we get" thread. We get the point: You hate this game you haven't played yet and everyone involved in making it. No need to reiterate it over and over just to provoke people.

I wish we had kudos or thumbs up/down for when you totally agree with someone's comment, I couldn't agree more with this.

As I was looking for more hilarious Mandoble rants, I stumbled upon this...

weirdadam wrote:

Looking at the other images from that link, I really like the short-hair Samus look. Between her long history with bikinis, a recent fascination with plug suits, and Team Ninja's involvement, I don't think anyone would have expected this understated look.

I don't, at all. My favorite depiction of Samus has always been the the generic Hollywood image of sexy-lady-turned-warrior. one in Zero Mission...

That's not bad, really. But there are other, much more ridiculous images from the art gallery you unlock in Fusion where Samus seems to have put her bounty hunter career on hold while pursuing a modeling career that borders on porn. I remember seriously turning it off because I was embarrassed to have seen her like that.

Yeah, I've seen some of the Fusion artwork and it's pretty bad.

I'm kinda pissed they added a mole on her chin, though. Makes her look a lot different. I like her best when she's actually in her power suit and you can see her face.

Damn it Nintendo, why can't you just choose a design for Samus and stick with it. And that choice had better be the one I linked above, or me and Mandoble will boycott you FOREVER. >:[

Well, I don't know that the mole looks better or worse than no mole at all, but it does separate her from a long tradition of ridiculous-looking Samuses, so I think it works.

Who cares she has a little mole on her chin? Big woop, a mole... on her chin...

Please don't cry over such a tragedy.

Yes you indeed should. With a watch alert I'd use extreme caution on just such an occasion.
