any comments?

I heard the controls are pretty bad, but not horrible. The only problem is that you either have to shake the Wiimote to throw a grenade, or use a joystick to move if you have a GC pad.

I think the controls are lousy for the Wii. I just rented the game yesterday and blew right threw it. The whole time I was dying easily due to bad control. A fun game, but I won't buy it for the Wii simply because of the controls.

I almost wrote the entire series off because of the anthology. I downloaded the original on VC on a whim and was quite happy I did. I read afterwards that you can actually switch to NES-style controls on the anthology though. Is that true? If so, perhaps I judged the anthology too soon.

No, wiimote controls on the Anthology all require at least some use of motion control which is really disappointing. The Gamecube controller support is the saving grace of the title and I would strongly recommend making use of one (or getting a Classic Linker and a Gamecube controller extension cord for using the Classic Controller) for this game.

Yeah, I've been using a Gamecube controller with my copy of the game. Works wonders. Yeah, the Wiimote-style controls are awful, but you don't HAVE to use them. Don't pass up this title because of the controls, they're easy to get around. What Wii-owning Metal Slug fan doesn't own a GC controller anyway?

The "NES-style" Wiimote setup requires shaking the controller to throw grenades, which is not only a bit iffy to do in the heat of things, but also makes it impossible to throw grenades in rapid succession, which you often want to do.

Well, I dislike using the GC's D-pad, and I don't like analog sticks for side-scrollers, so I guess I didn't make such a bad decision after all.

I'm not intrested in the Metal Slug Anthology because of it's horrible controls. But,I had downloaded Metal Slug 1 on the VC and it was a blast to play. I'm tempted to buy Metal Slug 2,but I heard that it is has too many bugs. So,I might wait until Metal Slug X comes out.

Let me understand something. Metal Slug Anthology I thought was a complilation of several Metal Slug games, am I right? What I don't like is that there's only a screen where you press start and you go. I would like an actual title screen showing options and such. I beat this game in about 30 minutes or so. I guess there's nothing more to do?

Is this game worth purchasing? I'd have to say that if I found if for 10-15 dollars I would. Otherwise I'd just pass.

What game are you playing? Metal Slug Anthology has 7 games you can choose between, and a menu where you can tinker with options and view bonus material.

What "this game"? Metal Slug 1?
They're arcade games, of course it won't take long to beat one of them. What were you expecting?

Yes, the Metal Slug games are awesome. 40$ or whatever the Anthology originally sold for is one hell of a deal.
10$? Wow, how much would you be willing to spend for the Xbox release of Metal Slug 3, then? 1$?

I agree the Gamecube d-pad is crap, but that's why the Classic Linker is a good solution as it allows you to use the Classic Controller which is most excellent for games like these.

Downloaded Metal Slug 1 on VC the other day, love it, controls reasonably tight. Might pick up Anthology if I see it real cheap somewhere. Otherwise will hang on for Metal Slug X on VC.

I don't doubt you can pick up Metal Slug Anthology cheap; it was a launch title after all!

Finally after months of looking for this game, I found one used for $20, mint condition, too bad I bought Madworld 2 minutes earlier...

Is this compilation worh it? I have Gamecube controllers, and the classic controller, which one is better?

rustythekid

Sean_Aaron

It is worth it though it could have been nicer (see SNK Arcade Classics Vol. 1 for how it could have been).

Classic Controller isn't supported, so use the GC controller for best results; better yet do what I do and buy a Classic Linker and a GC extension cord (if necessary) and use the Classic Controller as it should have been from the start. If they re-released this as a "special edition" with the same control options and look-and-feel of SNK Arcade Classics Vol. 1 I would definitely buy it again.

You know, if you have a PS2 just get that version. You can find it cheaper and won't have to worry about working around the controls.
