For the one's I've actually worked on heavily, I'd have to say SSBB. It took me four months to unlock most of it, and I still wasn't done. Only a few months ago did I beat the hundred man brawl in under 3:30. That was nothing compared to defeating fifty enemies in endless brawl.
The most frustrating thing, however, was the CDs. I even tried the custom stage technique, and it helped quite a lot. However, I still had the annoyance of CDs being picked up by the CPU or falling into a pit.
Super Paper Mario is worth it, because the extended play is fun. It's the cutscenes and sidestories that make it seem longer.
Paper Mario TYD takes awhile, but I was really excited when I collected the Crystal Star and entered the Millennium Door (What? No demon? Another world? Crap!)
It would be tactics but I hit a point where I start to care less about the side quests and I just want to finish the game. So, I've hit just around/under 100 hrs for both of them. That means, for me, the longest game I've ever played is Final Fantasy XII.
How do you define "longest" anyway? I mean, there are MMORPGs you can essentially play as long as you want without ever "beating" it, there's Blue Sphere with it's 100 billion stages (or whatever it was), there are games that have so many tons of crap to do that no thinking being would even think of completing it all, there are games that are just so hard they take an eternity to complete... You can't really define "longest" in such a way.

Well, either the thread can just switch to 'what's the most amount of time you've spend on a game' or just define the type of game being talked about as having a game with a definite beginning and end game. That would help remove a few games like MMORPG's and the time actually spent in Pokemon...I could also see Pokemon being a shade of grey with that definition, though, too.
For example, for this thread, I wouldn't seriously someone that considers The Sims as fitting into the context of this thread BUT if it read, 'how much time have you spent on a game' then I would consider it.
well ive played M and L superstar saga 13 times and counting so ive played it the most of all games. the longest time it took me to beat a game was probably Okami

i'm pretty sure my last save for Suikoden Tierkreis was 60 hours on the dot. then again, i spent a lot of time trading to earn money for good equipment and stuff, and also some minor grinding for levels so I could get through some quests. :3 Twilight Princess was a 40-something hour game for me, and i believe my Okami save file was at 66 hours iirc.
and then there's games like Chrono Trigger, where I really don't want to know how long I spent playing it in order to get through every available ending. holy crap. :3
BEST THREAD EVER future of NL >:3

The longest game ever I played was Diablo 2. Simply because the game is "open ended" and a diabolic time burner - I recently trasehd my CDs because I still spend too many hours in the Chaos Sanctuarium
In this current generation I played a lot of Brawl (140h) Pokemon Platinum (90h), Tetris DS, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon 2 and Picross DS.
In terms of non-RPGs, I put around 100 hours into F-Zero GX and probably 50 into Contra 4. I could probably re-tile the game from memory. I think my GC Ikaruga copy has something like 110 hours registered...I don't even know how many total hours I've played it, but I can beat it on normal no-deaths somewhat-regularly now. Still can't touch hard on less than one continue.
