Presumably Nintendo have touched on the idea, and I think we'd all like to assume they're working on something, but they haven't said anything yet. However, Icarian: Kindred Spirits is due out on WiiWare sometime soon (Friday in Europe), and that's based around the same myths.

They put the Ice Climbers in Melee and Brawl. They haven't appeared since their NES game. It was probably a reference to the GBA port of the NES game, or their plans to put him in SSB64.
I know. They also put Ice Climbers, Lucas, and Ness in Brawl, too. Yet there are no rumors of new games for them.
They put Ness, Lucas, and the Ice Climbers in it because Ness was on the 1st Smash bros so they added another Mother character, but you got me on the Ice Climbers... I know they brought them back from Melee but....
Pit was not only in the game - he has been completely redone graphically and he got a significant role in the subspace emissary. He was designed too awesome in Brawl not to make another game with him
I generally think his chances aren't too bad. With his ability to fly, there are nice options to put him into a 3D Franchise which supports Motion Controlling.
