Sorry if there is already a super sluggers thread, i couldn't find it.

I was just wondering what you guys thought about it, if any of you had it. I love baseball and played the weak wiisports version to death. I loved the controls on it and was wondering if they were similar here? I have mlb the show for playstation, but would like a fun game to just pick up and play with my friends...does mario super sluggers offer this? would even people who dont necessarily enjoy baseball like the game?

also the one player sounds a little dull, is this game pretty much just multiplayer? is it worth the money? planning on ebaying it so it wouldnt be near $50 but would still love any opinions. pretty much just any info you have, say it!

thanks guys!

I loved it! Got many hours out of it, but its best with a friend. If you can get it for like 40 or less, its a steal...thats about all i can say, I loved it

If you know all the answers, then you do not fully understand the questions

There's a lot of different control setups to use, so the controls aren't going to be a problem, but I thought the game was a little bit disappointing after Mario Superstar Baseball for GCN. I recommend that one if you can find it.

NO! It's awful. Get Power Pros - it's a million times better.

I'm not a fan of baseball games, but I did enjoy Super Sluggers. Obviously since its a Mario title, it is arcadey and goofy, but I wouldn't have liked it if it was normal baseball.

I agree with grenworthshero, though. Mario Superstar Baseball on Cube is my favorite of the two. Both games have similar minigames and play pretty much the same, but I'm not a fan of the waggle in Super Sluggers. (Shake the controller to run.)

Im really interested in the motion controls...sounds dumb but i just feel like swinging haha

so are they a hassle sort of like the first mario and sonic at the olympic games? can the controls be changed to eliminate or make bearable the waggle? are the basic throwing and hitting controls similar to whats found in wii sports?

I only played Sluggers for a short while as it didn't grab me like Superstar (GCN) did. The biggest thing for me (outside of controls) is that there is a LOT of replay value in Superstar. You work to get each player up to Superstar status, which happens by completing objectives for that player. You can complete the objectives for multiple players at the same time, but each player has many that require you to get them on the higher difficulty levels. The Superstar set-up creates a great feel of player development with the pay-off of having Superstars at the end. It was a great hook that is sadly missing from Sluggers.
I also like Power-Pros, but more as a Sim engine, and as a baseball/dating game thing then as a true baseball game. I don't really like the physics employed in the game and after a few games you find that most of the balls hit go to the exact same spots on the field. Pitching was pretty good, but I didn't really get into batting. I did like the game, but I wanted to like it much more, it felt like it was going to be great (I put about 30 hours into it overall). MVP baseball for the GCN is better still if you are looking for more of a pure-sim baseball.
Baseball Stars 2 is fun, arcade-like, and in both the SNK Arcade disc and on the VC (you can get the disc used for about $10 and since it has a lot of games on it, I recommend going that route...)
I'm also personally a huge fan of World Class Baseball (TG-16 but on VC) as it has quick games (~20 minutes), but more closely resembles actual baseball results (in terms of hits/HRs/score) than just about any baseball game I've played.

I answered your first question, I'll post my opinion on the second.
The motion controls in Wii Sports I thought were better than Sluggers. I thought, the most interesting use of the control in sluggers was of the IR Pointer to aim and fire power-ups at the opposing team. Sluggers from everyone I've talked to/read blogs of, is really hit/miss game. If you haven't played the first, you won't have that let-down, and it is a Nintendo game, so you know it's well-made. I'd recommend a rent (or just buy from GameFly - for $15 it's hard to go wrong with it...and GameFly used games are much, MUCH better than other places...the boxes and manual are mint b/c they never get sent out).

Yes, you can change the controls to use the wiimote like an NES controller, so there's no waggleness. If you use the wiimote alone though, the game is ALL waggle. the game runs for you, guides the batter's aim, and catches the ball. You can destroy the opposing team by literally closing your eyes and shaking the wii remote without mercy.

I love Mario Super Sluggers. First, you go through an adventure game of sorts, solving puzzles, performing minigames, and playing actual games in order to unlock everyone and everything. Also, the game has the most playable characters ever. Late into the adventure game, you can unlock two stadiums easily. It's also far better than the pathetic Wii Sports version. You get the full nine innings, plus extra innings when necessary, and also the mercy rule is optional. You can also customize your team and play day or night games. Once the adventure mode is complete, you can go back and play all the minigames. For beginners, there's also a tutorial mode.

:) Gamefly has become a pretty big source of games for me. I think I've bought 6 there so far this year? I love having boxes and manual in perfect shape, which is one reason I can't stand buying used games, but GameFly fixes that problem completely, and they are usually cheaper than Gamestop as well. Sometimes I love, and sometimes I hate their rental service, but I love buying used games there :).

PowerPros has a Wiimote mode a lot like Wii Sports, but you can play a 9 inning game, and you can do a homerun contest with the Wiimote control as well. I have both, but if I could pick only one, it would be PowerPros.
