That had other things going for it.

Engaging story, nice atmosphere, it's laughable to even compare those two games.

I wouldn't pay money to play it, much less buy it.

Say what???

Anyway - how does it compare vs Water Warfare? And does water warfare have much for single player? And why does Condouit not have 4 person local multiplayer = uh oh - topic time!!!!

IGN: The holiday Wii lineup looks thin for the hardcore crowd. We see this. Gamers see this. What, if anything, is Nintendo planning to address it?

Oh good, I am neither a gamer or hardcore. Saves me from having to be IGNorant.

Actually comparing the two is apt, since they both suffer from a painful amount of undeserved hype.

Back to the point, though, I rented the Conduit and that was enough for me. It just seemed to have a sense of blandness about it. I was a little surprised that the controls didn't bother me quite as much as I expected. However, if you're Wii-only and starving for a decent FPS it might be worth it.

It's fun enough. I love their engine, and the alien weapons are really awesome. Sometimes you get swarmed by enemies, but usually these dudes don't have weapons so you bonk them with yours. Love the melee attacks.

A few reviewers hit it close to spot on, and some were just terrible about this game. Some of it was over-hyped, but I give HVS a high-five for trying to do something good for the Wii. I'd say it's a must-play, and in the end I enjoy it greatly.

Irritating that some of the most vocal people against the game haven't.. you know.. actually played it.

I can't go on the internet (yet). Would that be a factor?

Considering the online multiplayer seems to be the only somewhat enjoyable part of the game, yes that would be a factor.

I agree, for once with AlexSays.

I rented this title, and I just couldn't get hooked into it and I like FPS, and the Wii is the only console I have (Unless we want to count the PC). I even think Water Warfare is a much better game than this. Not saying anything is bad with WW (except the hard time trying to find non-"Friends" in online matches), but if I find a WiiWare game more fun than a full blown retail game that is saying much.

On one hand, I did not find the whole storyline "bland" or "generic" (that belongs to any game that has you being a 'space marine'), but it just didn't click for me like Perfect Dark did for me.

I hated the story in Perfect Dark - in fact, though I played a lot of multiplayer, I never finished the single player myself.

Why do FPS 'need' sotries, it drive me crazy?!. I bought TIme Splitters 3 for GC recently, and the story made me sick to my stomcah, I could not believe how poor it was, and they spent a lot of time on it. It ruined the game for me.

Take me home, country roads, and do it like Goldeneye did - those levels were so FUN to play over and over, start finish, find a route through, Like Facility, or the 2nd Compound level, or the dam level.....ahh memories, I have to dig that out again....

Also I give props to Onslaught, simplistic, yes, we are talking combo-ing waves of generic enemies. But ya know what? It is FUN!

Just played Conduit for about an hour...and I have to say, I'm pretty impressed. If you go in with sky-high graphical expectations, you'll be disappointed, but if you go in with reasonable expectations, you'll be pleasantly surprised. The enemy AI so far is pretty decent, the voice acting (with the exception of the main character, sadly) is pretty good, and while it's not of earth-shattering HL2 / Bioshock proportions, it's still damn fun.

Buuuuut then I tried to go online and though it found me a room very quickly, the game froze once the match started. Everyone else was able to play (according to the little readout) but poor Chicken Brutus couldn't do or see anything. I booted up Water Warfare instead, to fulfill my need for online multiplayer. And boy oh boy I'm sure the Conduit devs would cry themselves to sleep if they knew people who owned their game were turning to Water Warfare for their online fix.

Still, though, I'm digging the single player, and will give online another shot when I'm less tired. Overall opinion will have to wait, but for now, yeah, definitely worth a play.

You could accuse if you want because I'm not playing the game until I find a way to play it for free. I refuse to support High Voltage with my money.

Good luck with that.

So you're not even gonna bother to rent it? Way to bash a game you haven't even played. I'm not impressed with High Voltage's work either, and also have low expectations for the Conduit, but to base your opinion solely on the lowest-scoring reviews you can find isn't the right way to judge a game. You make it sound like every dollar you give HVS goes to funding a terrorist organization or something.

The online glitch sounds ridiculous. How did they not know about that before shipping the product?

4. You make it sound like every dollar you give HVS goes to funding a terrorist organization or something.

1. Developers benefit from people renting their game. I don't support the game they made.

2. Old internet cliche #561. For some reason people don't say this to those that haven't played Conduit, yet praise High Voltage. Anyway, people are allowed to form a perspective from videos, previews, developer interviews, reviews, and more.

3. When did I say my opinion was based off that? Quote would be nice for that one, friend.

Anyway, reviews across the board usually say the same thing. The "lowest-scoring" review didn't receive a different copy of the game than everyone else, they just have a different thought on how the scoring should pan out.

4. A terrorist organization? Maybe not that bad.

It's dollars going towards those that have repeatedly screwed Wii owners though, and I'm not at all for that.

lolno

Just because reviewers have a different outlook on a Wii game doesn't mean they're PS3/360 fanboys.

Wii fanboys have a nasty habit of tossing around that accusation.

It's based off of reviews, videos, and opinions of those I know who have had played the game and don't have extreme bias for anything Wii related, or suffer from the "Oh but they tried" trance.

dont go calling me a fanboy, did you not read what i said? "there are a few good negative reviews"

but any retard who feels the need to exaggerate graphical infidelity by saying it looks like something out of the n64/ps1 era is an obvious fanboy and THOSE are the ones i'm referring to.

I never specifically called YOU a fanboy.

I said Nintendo fanboys have a nasty habit of doing what you did. And that's true.

Its a good game but. (theres always a but). The online glitch is quite aggravating in the sense as soon as the map loading screen load is over all you get is a black screen and unable to do anything. The only way I can escape this is to reset my Wii a time or two and I just do not understand why it works then. I have contacted both High Voltage's support and SEGA's customer service but no one will reply to my emails.

I thought is was good. Kinda reminds me of Metroid Prime 3.

I got through 50% of the campaign in 2 1/2 hours, though.

I miss having a chatroom that was always in beta.

You keep saying this, but I'm still not getting it. This will be my first HVS game purchase in nearly 15 years -- I don't feel I'm getting screwed; I'm probably getting a decent FPS, though.

I love how you say that HVS is screwing wii owners over Alex when the entire game was made by them asking "what do YOU the gamers want". even if it didnt turn out how we hoped, its clear they wanted it to be perfect for wii owner, and they'll get it right in another try. infact they already contacted a friend of mine running a fansite and asked him to get all his forum members to post up what weapons they want in the game.. that is how awesome HVS is, and even if The conduit is a dissapointment i will buy it because they are such awesome developers

Then there's not much I can do because I've explained this several times, Sean.

They released an unfinished WiiWare game right after they announce The Conduit to hit Wii owners up for some quick and easy money. Then they follow that up with a few more mediocre titles while riding the High Voltage hype train.

Now we find out all those quick mediocre games have been netting them money for a game (riddled with bugs) they're trying to sell off hype? People have been seeing them as some "hardcore saviors" when they rely on hype to pass off their mediocre games as being anything decent?

This has proven one thing though. A developer can live off hype alone. If they hadn't said much about their games, their mediocre titles would rightfully fly under the radar and be seen as nothing special. If they didn't make it seem like they're the only ones "trying" - though other developers try a heck of a lot more, and produce results - and wave the pity flag, they wouldn't have the near the support they have now.

They're all about screwing Wii owners and making it seem like they're doing something great. You think all that talk about them caring for Wii owners is still legit now that they're considering other consoles?

Yes, they failed this time but hey it's okay, because they'll get it right next time.

It's shocking the blind allegiance and faith these guys have gathered.

I'd say it's good-average. I mean... it has fine controls compared to Red Steel and Metroid Prime and you can customize pretty much everything about the controls mechanics, but lack classic controls functionality. The Online multiplayer is a blast, but the lack of a local multiplayer is a very serious flaw. The game shines online, I'd say, mostly.

Don't let my location fool you. I'm Québécois, not Canadian.
