Topic: I'm thinking about getting Galaxy, but I need advice...

I need to know how similar it is to 2D marios. I played Super Mario 2 on the GBA and thought it frustrating, and I downloaded Super Mario 3 on the VC and found it dreadfully frustrating and slippery and downright cruel at times.

Should I get Galaxy even if I don't like 2D Marios?

No, you obviously don't like Mario games. There's nothing wrong with that, just don't waste your money.

The Game.

Is it after 9PM EST? You should probably ignore the above post.

You might like it... but I'm not that sure.

How about you borrow it from a friend for day or two before buying or buy Super Mario 64 off the VC service and see how you like that.

Just for you.

Galaxy is MUCH easier than most of the 2D Mario games. I highly recommend it.

I'd get the much better Super Mario 64 first. Not only is it much better, but it's also a fifth of the price, so if you don't like 3D Mario atleast you didn't blow $50+

I don't think there's any necessary relation between enjoyment of the 2D Marios and enjoyment of the 3D ones...but if you've been that disappointed in the series then I'd certainly advise you to rent it first.

Personally, I love the game more than is strictly healthy, but it sounds like you're not entirely likely to share my opinion. Give it a rent, or borrow it from a friend.

Well, I don't think its OK to say that I dislike Mario. I just don't enjoy getting seriously frustrated several times continuously. It messes me up.

Also, I think it only costs £30 in Tesco, so it wouldn't be the end of the world, right?
Also, I don't want to use point of Mario 64, in case I want something else.

Super Mario Galaxy I did not find too difficult.

the 2D Marios don't really compare well to the 3D Marios... i'd say if you didn't like Mario 64 or the DS remake, you probably won't like SMG. There's a lot more to consider movement-wise in the 3D Mario games, there's forces of gravity to deal with in this one, and the new controls as well. If you're a perfectionist, be warned that there are a few stars in SMG that will take try after try after try to get, and you will get frustrated and want very much to throw your wiimote through a window, but if you just want to play through all the levels and beat the game and that's all, you'll probably be all right.

I think you'd probably like it if you didn't like the 2D Mario games. Galaxy is very different from normal Mario games. I love the 2D Mario games, and I think Galaxy is probably the worst Mario game yet, so if you didn't like the 2D games, you might think it's the best one yet.

Galaxy is easier than the 2D ones I think. And very different, too.

I'd say you cannot go wrong with this one. It's very innovative with its multi-gravity field gameplay and large diversity. Definitely the best 3D Mario game. In fact, it is currently the greatest Wii game.

Maybe you should just spend ten bucks on the VC version of Super Mario 64 and see if you like it. While there are some distinct differences between the two this might give you a better idea of what Galaxy is like.

But personally I think you cannot go wrong with Galaxy anyway.

Hehehe...!

Anyway, how does the interface of accessing the levels work?
I think I've seen this: Select a Galaxy --> Select a level
So there are no locked doors and getting a game over doesn't mean you have to start from the beginning?

I'm a huge Mario fan but I'm with you on SMB3--way too frustrating and cruel. And SM2 is kind of lame. But you don't need to like Mario games to like Galaxy. It's probably the greatest 3-D platformer of all time.

Yes, its like that. Heres how it works. When you begin the game and after you get the first star, a "dome" will automaticly open. In the dome, there are two 6 star galaxies and three 1 star galaxies.(Some of them are locked at first) When you get more stars, you will begin to unlock more galaxies in the dome. The last galaxy to unlock happens to be 1 star galaxly where you fight Bowser/Bowser Jr in a boss fight. When you defeat them, you get a grand star. When you get a grand star, You unlock another dome. And it repeats with new domes, and new levels. When you get a game over, you are taken back to the hub world. From the hub world, you can restart the level you were doing before or you can start another one.
