I'd buy it.

It is like looking at a new racing simulator coming out and saying it is copying from previous racing simulators because it has cars with four wheels going round a track, what do you expect them to do?

Unfair comparison. A simulator's purpose is to ... well ... simulate. It is supposed to be a copy. Of course, this is also why I hate driving simulators.

If you change that to just "driving," then you'll have more variety than you'll know what to do with: F-Zero, Extreme G, Mario Kart, Excite Truck, Excite Bots, Wave Race, Diddy Kong Racing, etc. and that's just naming Nintendo games.

If you are inured to unoriginal work, that's fine for you, but it is perfectly reasonable to desire originality in all genres.

On a side note, just checked both rental stores for the game, and no luck. Looks like I won't be playing Conduit (I really do want to give it a try) for a couple weeks since I'll be out of town for most of next week.

Dammit, AlexSays. Stop being your insufferable, insatiable self. Go find something that makes you happy, because it's clearly nothing Nintendo or any talented Wii developers do nowadays.

I have read through this less than savory post and I have a question. Is anyone going to buy the game?

Vegeta: Just...just...transform damn you...
Bulma: We are going to have a penthouse sweet...and he'll drive a corvet...and we will make love every single...
Zarbon: (transforms)
Bulma: KILL IT WITH FIRE!

The only reason i made the comparison is too make the point that in my opinion i cannot think of anyway they could go with a serious FPS other than roaming around gloomy environments shooting aliens or monsters, if they were to make a fun FPS (like Mario kart is a fun racer) then it would be a different story, hence why it annoys me when people complain about lack of originality.

Pixelman recently posted an original idea for a shooter (even said he might prototype it!). Water Warfare is original (only time will tell if it'll be good, too). Metroid Prime Hunters is quite original (and my favorite shooter, easily). I'm sure I'm not the only one capable of thinking up examples.

Also, I understand what you are trying to say with the distinction between "serious" and "fun," but... they're games. They are supposed to be fun, not serious. The distinction you're trying to draw could be more accurately described as bland or fun, rather than serious or fun.

If you're going to just trash and flame. GTFO. Sometimes I don't even understand why you came to Nintendolife if it just wasn't to bash people who actually like the Wii and it's games on a constant basis.

I agree that it's a good score. I don't know what else anyone would expect. And the review sounds good to me. I can't believe he compared it to Perfect Dark as if that might let us down. That only made me more interested.

But I'm not going to get a shooter for a short single-player game, and I'm certainly not going to get an online-only multi-player game that lags. I've had zero lag problems on any PS3 games online, and I have played many. Saying "What game hasn't!" is hugely misleading.

You can get away with lag in a game like Mario Kart, but in a game that requires accurate shooting against moving targets, it's inexcusable.

It's only barely tolerable in Brawl for me, but I don't think I could put up with it for a shooter. I hope it's an exaggerated worry, but it's still a legitimate one. The Wii just doesn't seem cut out for running this kind of game online, unfortunately.

Ok, granted, I don't and won't own a PS3. For me, games purchase have to add up or surpass the price of the system. Right now, for me, the games out for the PS3 don't meet that requirement. My experience is with the Wii and 360. The wii is wireless and I have my 360 hardlined for online play and I've experienced and noticed a thread usually pops up with every game upon release and around Xmas discussing lag issues.

Anyways, I went backwards in my COD playing. I had the Wii version for months before getting the 360 version. Granted the 360 version had all the bells and whistles but man...it was rough going to analog after motion control for that game. Most my friends don't get it when I tell them it's rough playing because I can't just point and shoot like on the Wii.

Judging by your avatar, I'd say. . . Conduit.

Twitter is a good place to throw your nonsense.

I'm still not seeing the basis for any of those statements.

Oh see it's quite easy.

The story has been confirmed as being short.

The graphics aren't even close to being on par with a 360 title, and not the best graphics on the Wii, like the developer said they would be.

Matty himself said the online only works some of the time. But don't worry, when it works you'll be addicted!

And then the AI thing has been said in several previews and by people who have played the game.

Everything besides the control scheme was done last gen, and the Wii handed the control scheme to these guys on a silver platter.

What? I love Nintendo. lol (Not one of those hardcore Nintendo lovers though, those people are awful. lol)

They've already published my favorite game this gen in Wii Fit and next month they'll be publishing my next favorite in Resort.

It's not black and white though, you can hate a little and love a little. Hey all marriages do that. lol

And you wanna talk about talented devs? Guys behind Little King's Story don't get any credit and I think most critics would agree their newest original highly acclaimed game is better than The Conduit. Heck, there's a ton of devs that get absolutely no credit for making great Wii games, yet nobody here even cares.

It's a sad, sad story.

Okay, what I don't get is everyone calling it "Nothing new". It's damn new to the Wii, and it's by far the best FPS for the platform. (MP3 is not an FPS) I think it's silly if you're going to knock practically the first big FPS for a console for not being new and innovative. When Halo came out for the xbox, it wasn't anything "new", it wasn't anything "innovative", but people damn well liked it.

As to the inconsistent online, the only Wii game I've played that I haven't experienced any lag at all on has been Excitebots. Grand Slam Tennis, Smash Bros, and Mario Kart all have recurring lag problems. I don't see how an FPS is going to do any better.

At any rate, the game is setting new standards for Wii FPS's, and more, most likely better ones will follow. I'd love to see an FPS with strategic single-player combat.

How is it new to Wii? There may not be as many FPS's as there are on other consoles (and really, who wants that many), but there are quite a few options.

I'm not sure how the comparison to Halo helps, either. Not exactly the most exciting game out there.

And I'll believe you about Excite Bots being the only lagless game you've played on Wii, but how is that relevant? Just because other games have crappy online play doesn't mean we should be happy about it.

The games you list all have strong offline multi-player offerings to make up for this deficiency, but Conduit doesn't. If my only option for playing a game with other people is shooting at the shadows of laggy players, that seems like the biggest cause for complaint you could have against an FPS.

I'm not judging the game's online mode until I've played it myself, but the reviews do have me worried about it.

1. Most (if not all) of the "options" suck.
2. The comparison to Halo is, neither are all that exciting, but they both are more or less the first good FPS's for the consoles. (Yes I know Halo was a launch title, but we're talking about a family-geared system right now)
3. I didn't ask anyone to be happy about it, I merely stated that less demanding games have pretty bad lag problems.
4. Granted, the Conduit totally missed the boat on offline multiplayer.
