The Legend of Zelda is kind of known to be different with each new game release. I would not mind cel-shaded graphics, but I want something new.

So, you're saying you refuse to buy Zelda Wii no matter what it looks like?

Yep, not a series I like enough to buy too many installments of. But, I have A Link to the Past, Ocarina of Time, Windwaker and Twilight Princess. I am happy with those.

As long as the game is good, the graphics don't matter that much.

I think I'd prefer cel Link to realistic Link, to be honest. Not that I have any problems with the realistic Zelda games, but they do age damn quickly. Twilight Princess looks kinda low-res and graphically weak now, and anyone remember that first 'realistic Zelda' vid from when the 'Cube was first announced? How plastic and crap do those graphics look now? Whereas boot up Wind Waker and it's still as vibrant and pretty today as the first day it was announced.

I'm kind of scared now to add the word "Princess" to clarify myself.

@WaltzElf

This topic is about graphics, not about the question if graphics are more important than gameplay. I agree gameplay is more important!

i love the WW graphic style, but personally i'd rather the graphics be closer to the ones for TP

I wouldn't mind if they went for the Wind Waker style, but I would prefer something similar to the style of Twilight Princess.

The topic is whether a graphical change would change my opinion of the game - no, but I am hedging my bets that regardless of the graphical style I will have a very low opinion of this game.

Spirit tracks just confirmed it for me - superficial changes aside, Nintendo is still peddling the exact same game they did with the original Zelda on the NES. Say what you like about Final Fantasy, at least there's a genuine effort in each edition of the game to come up with something new

Adam

I prefer having the handheld and console games separate, and nothing shows a more immediate distinction between the two sets of games than graphics. The cell-shaded look is great on the DS, but Wind Waker was too empty for me to really be impressed by it. Much greater screen area than the handheld Zeldas, and yet seemingly less content per screen given all the boring stretches of sea. Sure, they could correct this, but... I'd rather they do something completely new with the graphics, while we're being hypothetical. Twilight Princess and Ocarina were ugly.

@Waltz Whoa, whoa, whoa, Zelda has come a long way since the NES original. I would be hard pressed to say that this long way was for the better, but it is definitely very different. The games are far more linear and guided. Combat is significantly dumbed down and deemphasized. Dying is much rarer. Puzzles are now Link's primary obstacles to success. Towns and dialog have become much more important (i.e. they exist now...). Etc.

Come on, friends,

I'd be sad, I like my Zelda to be and look serious. The childish look doesn't fit so well, unless they make the gameplay childish again.
