Hi everyone, I'm new to the forums. I have a Nintendo Wii & I think it's a pretty decent system. With the Wii's successor the Nintendo Wii U having been out on the market for a couple years now, the Wii is somewhat considered an "older" system now I guess, though it's had a very good run & still does as it is still receiving games. I'm just wondering, how much longer do you think, before all developments stops on the Wii & it becomes retired? (I hope it still has a few more years left)
Except for a few titles like Skylanders, Just Dance and a few casual games like Barbie & her sisters, the Wii didn't get any new games. There might be last batch of Skylanders, Just Dance and a casual game or two next year, but that will be it for the Wii. The follow-up to the Wii U might even be released next year if we were to believe the rumours.
Ultimately I guess it depends on how many copies of Skylanders, Just Dance and the others sell. If they still make a profit with the Wii then there is little reason not to. If EA wasn't so anti-Nintendo, I would imagine the Wii would still be getting Madden and FIFA legacy editions. Remember Pro Evolution Soccer 2014 came out 13 years after the release of the PS2 because apparently there was still a market for it.
Well I heard from my Dad's best friend's brother's son who works for Nintendo say that Zelda U will also be a Wii game, because they've not said otherwise right? Ergo it is a Wii game. Heck even look at Twilight Princess, that was the last time a Zelda game released on two systems simultaneously and what was one of those systems? The Nintendo Wii. Case unequivocally closed because of that totally relevant Twilight Princess example. Now THAT'S what you call evidence. Heck you'd have to be a blind fanboy or Nintentard to disagree with the logic, they sold 100 million Wiis and so why wouldn't they give it the best chance of success that it has by releasing it on their most ever popular system?
You're welcome for the genius insight, I'm going to post the same thing on every NX forum Nintendo Life do as my logic is infallible, and I'm going to insult their previous console at the same time because that's the mature way to go about things.
@Pahvi: I understand what you mean, but it's still a little strange that there's still a big enough audience on a 10-year old console that apparantly is enough to warrant new games even to this day.
It'll probably slow way down when the WiiU is "over". Then we'll get one like once every few years by an old huge Wii fan who will port his or her game to the console for nostalgia reasons. Just like the people who've decided to put their games on the NES, Genesis, N64 and GBA even though they're ancient now. Albeit not usually an official (or even truly authorized) release, they have made the carts or disks that work on the actual systems.
Pfft or scenario two, the NX comes out, it's considered "not good enough" and idiots will try and troll Nintendo and continue to release Wii games instead of WiiU or NX games.
@Megumi: I'm more surprised by the fact that people still buy new games for their Wii.
It use to surprise me but people are super stubborn about the WiiU at this point even if they're clueless about what struggles the WiiU is going through. The Wii is way too cheap, $50 at Gamestop for a used one. All the used games are ridiculously cheap, and even some new ones are really cheap. CHEAP. That's the real reason it's the walking dead.
Mom's love that Wii Fit & WF Plus are $1 each compared to $39.99 for Wii Fit U. The Mario games are reduced everywhere because stores have finally become wise to the eShop prices. Mario Galaxy at Target & Walmart is $20 just like the eShop. They never use to do that, they'd keep the full blown price even if Nintendo offered it cheaper elsewhere.
I'm under the impression that most (not all) new Wii releases are chiefly shovelware at this point. At least, that's the vast majority of new Wii games available at my closest Walmart. These companies still flogging the system are aware that it still has a pretty large install base, which is why they still publish games for it. (I believe some have even skipped the Wii U?) Also, as mentioned above, most used games for the Wii are pretty cheap nowadays.
There are still a small handful of decent Wii titles available at retail; I just picked up a new copy of Super Mario Galaxy 2 ($19.99, likely because of its price on the eshop) in October.

It shouldn't be that surprising there are still some games coming out on the Wii. The PS2 is the classic example of this but "post obsolescence" releases happen more often than not. We're talking about the Wii and how its odd it still gets Just Dance but the 360 just got the new Tomb Raider. Or what about the DS which got Pokemon Black/White when the 3DS launched and then a sequel a year later. Or Donkey Kong Country 3 which released on the SNES alongside the launch of the N64.

"Don't stir the pot" is a nice way of saying "they're too dumb to reason with"

But that was officially discounted years ago.
I saw one of my internet friends posting a picture of Metroid: Other M "needs help, trapped in 2010" and I was thinking "the rest of that photo's gonna have a Target price tag, isn't it?" Click and sure enough, he was merely one other person who noticed Target STILL wants MSRP for that old and heavily-criticized game.
I don't see the Wii lasting, but then again I hear the original DS has still gotten a couple crappy shovelware games this year. (I think Pokemon BW2 was the last notable release, in 2012?) Though even then BW2 largely a mod of a pre-existing game so it only really counts as half a new release.
Not since the NES had Nintendo been content to thoroughly support the old console when the new one comes. (the Super Famicom got new games up to 4 years after the N64 came out, but that was probably because N64 sold so poorly in Japan they probably needed new SFC games, along with the instant success of Pokemon to balance it out)
If you release a game for the Wii, you have a game that will run on both a Wii and a Wii U. It's not technically a dead platform. True, it won't display in HD on the Wii U, but considering the popularity of pixellated, retro-looking games on the eShop, that may not be a problem.
See that Monster High RPG-ish game that just got reviewed? It got released for the Wii as well. That recently reviewed Barbie puppy rescue game (released last month) is also available for the Wii. Also released last month is Let's Sing 2016, available for the Wii but not the Wii U. The games still keep coming.
