Wii stopped reading, had repair complication, got cheap used Wii, want to transfer game data, if you have any clarification on how to do it and the logistics of it and help would be appreciated!

You can go to the save data management screen in the wii settings menu.

If the data can be copied over to an sd card, then it will give the option.

Games that had online components to them usually have the save data "locked" to the console.

Bloop.

I understand why the save data was initially locked (to prevent any potential complications of two users logging in online with the same user data), but I don't understand why Nintendo never got rid of the save data lock since turning off the servers in 2014. I don't think it would have required much effort on Nintendo's part to just patch that out via a system update for both Wii and Wii U. I dread the thought of losing all of my Wii save data, and removing that lock would actually give a lot of value in keeping our old Wii and Wii U consoles.
