Just saw this on the announcements forum, under the topic "Clarifying our Gray Areas: Emulators, Homebrew, and ROMs":
"We are going to go ahead and allow constructive discussion about the use of flashcarts, unofficial emulators, and homebrew software for PREVIOUS GENERATION hardware only."
Wii is last gen, so that's us.
I use Homebrew for one and only one thing: to put my legitimately purchased Wii games onto my big USB flash drive so I can play most of my games entirely off solid state hardware. It's a good feeling not to need to make the optical disk work and not to have to shuffle disks, and things seem to work faster.
Would you guys recommend any Mario Kart Wii CTs outside of CTGPR? I've been thinking about using an old Wii for CTGPR, but there aren't that many CTs I want to play and I don't know if it'd be worth buying another Wii for those I want (I'm not going to mod either of my old ones)...
@cwong15 I'm still OK with my 8 GB SD for my legit games. I think I will only use the hacking when I need to replace my Wii (which I hope won't happen at least in 20 years). If it ever breaks, I will need it to keep playing my games that had cost me hard earned money. I still don't feel is OK to talk about the unofficial/unauthorized stuff for Wii or DSi, they are past gen but are not officially dead, when we can't access the shops, it will be the best time, IMO.

What do you mean? As of right now there is only one way to play CTs.. With the CTGPR channel. Unless you want to play in Single Player. :?
@OMC79, I guess you have confidence in your Wii's durability. My own bias comes from having to throw away DVD players every couple of years. As a result, I tend to distrust the durability of anything with moving parts, especially optical disks. So every time I buy a retail game, I copy it to my USB flash drive to play. That way, nothing needs to move in that box when I play except for the fan.
My Wii's disc drive recently kicked the bucket, so I've been using mine for homebrew (gotta love DOSBox) and WiiWare/Virtual Console. Homebrew is definitely a strong reason I've kept my Wii plugged into my TV nowadays.

Newer Super Mario Brothers, the translation patch for Fatal Frame 4, and lifting the region locking off Fatal Frame 2 are what I've done on the Wii thanks to all the Wii homebrew authors out there.
I know is a little late to say this but since the Wii is part of the Wii U, shouldn't this remain banned at least until it loses Wii Mode?
BTW, it is now possible to run GC ISOs on Wii U using Wii mode hacking and a homebrew app.

The actual Wii was last gen, so it's fine to talk about hacks and stuff for it...only exception being Wii Mode on the Wii U.

@OMC79, @Xiao_Pai, et. al — hey guys, we are not discussing Wii Mode for Wii U or any related tangents thereof, as that is a feature of a current-gen device. Please, let's stick to the topic at hand, which is the Wii. Thanks in advance! :3
@RancidVomit86: you break the rules and ignore the moderation team, them's the breaks and you earns your bans. i trust there's no hard feelings.

I haven't tried Newer Super Mario Bros (although heard it was awesome) but being able to play my imported copies of Fatal Frame 2 and 4 is AWESOME. If anyone involved with the translation patch for 4 ever sees this, THANK YOU!!
If Triforce, arcade, Mario Kart, F-Zero, and Virtua Striker mean anything to anyone here, there's something else very neat that you can do on a homebrewed Wii.
