Whilst it doesn't excite me as much as the Conduit, I must say I'm impressed with where HVS is going with Gladiator A.D. Tomorrow IGN will be unveiling yet another game from the House of Quantum3.
What do you think it'll be? What would you like it to be?
I'd like a futuristic racer, i have my fingers crossed.
I must say High Voltage Software have got me taking note of their Wii projects. Could they be Ninty's answer to RARE this generation? The Conduit and Gladiator A.D. are amazing first titles, and with a third game to be anounced today things can only get better.
Like RARE in the N64 days, HVS are creating different genres, exclusively for this platform, and pushing the hardware to get the best from all it's features i.e. - online, voice chat via WiiSpeak, MotionPlus use in Gladiator, IR pointing etc. I like the look of Gladiator A.D. it reminds me of the old 'Barbarian' game I had back on my ZX Spectrum.
I just hope other developers follow HVS's lead in making use of the WiiSpeak for online voice chat, it would be nice to get more use out of it (Animal Crossing isn't really my thing) after the Conduit's release!!!
Ok, what about this: While i was reading the interview at IGN i saw the guys at HVS mentioned they were going to fills the gaps in some genres of the Wii library. So: We can expect something about those genres, but what are those?

Well we are yet to have a decent simulation or even arcade racing game on the Wii. (Mario Karts doesn't count here, it's a kart racer) After the terrible Moto GP 09 on Wii, I was pinning my hopes on F12009 from Codemasters. Seeing how great Race Driver: Create & Race and GRID were on DS I expected Codemasters to finally deliver on Wii, but after seeing the disappionting screenshots my hopes have been dashed - and I fear that DIRT 2 on Wii may also be a let down.
The best driving game we have so far is Ferrari Challenge Trofeo Pirelli with average reviews and no online modes. The only one on the horizon for Wii owners is Need For Speed NITRO, running at an impressive 60fps but again still lacking online this year!

HVS does not make Shovelware, Thats Data Design Interactive's job. But there games werent amazing.
Yeah they do.
High Voltage is Data Design with a larger mouth.
They both make mediocre games, just High Voltage runs around hyping them to hell and back. That's the only reason they have fans, people like what they hear and believe in them.
Some of us don't fall for it. First they said The Conduit would look like a 360 game and now they're saying they'll reinvent the fighting genre with this game? Please.
Their highest scoring game on the Wii is Go Diego, Go. They're not the hardcore savior they make themselves out to be. Heck, they intentionally made several quick mediocre WiiWare games to rally up some easy cash for The Conduit, the very definition of a shovelware developer.
High Voltage has been around a long time; it's true they make a lot of licensed stuff to pay the bills, but they've done some good stuff. I enjoyed Ruiner Pinball on the Jaguar and their port of Tempest 2000 for the Playstation/Mac/Saturn, Tempest X3, was also pretty nice.

Sounds like perfectly good business sense to me, and a canny use of the Wii demographic. A 'de facto' shovelware developer would continue making shovelware, no?
Well, I'm not getting my futuristic racer (yet) but did a woot when I saw we have another FPS en-route, and a sweet lookin one too. Although, until The Conduit arrives, none of us really know how much we should be looking forward to these new IP's. I'm not as picky as most, and am just glad that a developer is taking the Wii seriously, like every other developer failed to do in the consoles first year. And that includes my beloved Ninty.
Here's to mowing down hordes of vampire things with a buddy online.
