Yes I have played the Conduit and everything about it was meh. There were some details here and there, but the way HVS was talking about the graphics pre-release they were making them sound Super Mario Galaxy quality, and aside from the occasional flame and blur effects the rest could've easily been done on a PS2 game.

I suppose that's true, seeing how I didn't buy the game until it was in the bargain bin. I didn't pay much attention to the game when it first released, so I was fairly satisfied buying it for $20.

But then again, I don't remember much of the game at all.

Lego Racers is pretty good game. It has good music, and the Lego aspect of it is kind of fun because you can create your own car and driver. It's not much of a racing game, but it's OK.

Beep.
That is all.

The new Lego Universe MMO has racing....but its more based on Drome Racers (another lego racing game) than Lego Racers, so its not as cartoony.

Back on topic, other then Lego Racers, HVS isnt really that good. I havnt even HEARD of Conduit 2 before you guys brought it up, so I dont know.

Why do people always get hyped up over High Voltage Software titles?

Because they say what people want to hear, then present their merchandise in a way that makes it seem like what they say is genuine. That's how scam artists work.

What's not to get? IGN being IGNorant played up the company and the game makers for months on end with exclusive interviews, endless stories and pic releases, etc. They played all the Wii fans like a fiddle, and sadly for all those who bit on them (sadly me too on Conduit since the story looked like it would be good and it was, shame the 'gauntlet' inspired generators and other little bits sucked the fun out of it) it also comes with the worlds tiniest violin to be played for your as well.

They're a mediocre company played up like mad by IGN as someone who does top notch work and genuinely cares about the Wii getting a lot of people motivated to run out and buy a semi polished turd unfortunately. I for one think I'm likely done with them as they handled that game (conduit) so horribly.

I really think it's unfair to call The Conduit a "buggy demo." I personally played many hours of online and only once had a session join bomb out on me. The single player game may have seemed a bit old-fashioned in level design and the story wasn't as inspired as I'd have liked, but I still think it's a fun campaign and enjoy the odd replay. Conduit 2 looks like it will address many issues and potentially deliver the closest thing to an online experience on one of the HD systems with a headset and apparently downplayed friend codes. It's this kind of effort that gets them some attention.

I personally remember them as one of the few Jaguar devs (Ruiner Pinball was pretty fun) and they're from my home state and have been around for a long time. Hopefully they can enjoy some success with their original IP because I'd hate to see a long-standing independent developer go down, no matter how much of their output is work-for-hire.

Based on what I heard before and from the link in romulux's post, I feel better about The Conduit 2 now. Since they're no longer working on any other side projects and The Grinder appears to be on hold for the moment, it looks like HVS is banking on The Conduit 2 to land a publisher for The Grinder and restore funding to them to keep their company afloat. This sounds (kind of) similar to another FPS developer currently working on what appears to be their publisher's biggest project to date, let alone their development studio. On their (and HVS's) last FPS, both were also working on multiple other projects, and both (as of right now) appear to be giving their all on their current project. Not that I'm trying to promote Treyarch and Activision in any way, (I still want to know what, besides keeping more money, was Activision thinking firing West and Zampella), it's just HVS's situation sounds kind of similar to Treyarch's, aside from losing their company of their project doesn't go over well. Not to mention that HVS is in my home state, and the last thing Illinois needs is even more jobs lost.

Exactly.

My guess is that someone from HVS is a moderator for Nintendolife. Like a mole... Like Peter Parker.. That is why we hear so much here at Nintendolife. Also, I interviewed with them about 10 years ago and didn't get the job because they never got back to me. I dont have alot of respect for them. Anyone want to see their head quarters?

Exactly, Conduit was a rushed to market incomplete buggy demo of a game, & everything I hated about the 1st game seems to be returning to the 2nd. What I don't get is why people think it will be different this time.

Poor artistic graphical quality...fixed
Poor, confined level design...fixed
Limited story interation...fixed
No offline multiplayer...fixed
Limited online customization...fixed
Derivative online levels...fixed
Online glitches...presumed to be fixed (haven't actually heard them comment on this, but I don't see why not)

It looks they're fixing the problems from the first game to me. What problems did you have with the first game that they aren't fixing (keeping in mind that they can't do anything about friend codes)?

this one isn't as simple as programming in a splitscreen mode or patching a bug. art is a matter of talent, which you either have or you don't, and the first game made it pretty clear high voltage doesn't. the fact that they spent so much time on an engine that can render cool but ultimately insignificant lighting effects while not even bothering to toss a texture or two into those barren hallways shows that art direction is an extremely low priority to them, if even on the radar at all.

they're paying attention to it now because the outcry from players was so bad that they have no choice, but i don't think that's a very promising indicator of what we can expect this time. when people who don't care about art apply themselves to make it out of obligation, they're likely to come up with sh***y art no matter how hard they work at it. i'm hoping that they prove me wrong, because i still play the first game and enjoy it enough to consider the second, but after the first game they've got a lot of making up to do.

Make up for what? Being the only company with balls enough to make a FPS on the Wii? I don't know anyone who thinks the Conduit isn't an average FPS, but without High Voltage we'd be playing Far Cry and Red Steel (two games that make The Conduit look fantastic). As for Tournament of Legends, I couldn't say Castlevania Judgment is a better game. We like High Voltage Software because they're the only show in town.

...in my pants.

make up for hyping their game as a masterpiece when it was really a well polished.....

just because they're the only company to make a first person shooter on wii doesn't mean they're excused from any and all wrongdoing. i've played the conduit online an awful lot despite all it's flaws, which is why i'm frustrated about how it turned out; with those controls the single player could have been great even if it just had fair level design, but as it is, it's near unplayable. i can't think of any game in recent memory more boring and torturous play.

it's hard to justify how it turned out. what were their thoughts while designing it? how do you repeat this gray corridor 15 times in a row without a voice in your head saying "that doesn't count as a level!"? were they so focused on the technical side of things that they never stopped to make sure it was interesting to play? or were budget/time issues so severe that they could only come up with the most basic elements and repeat them to fill the game? i find myself wondering these things every time i'm foolish enough to boot up the single player (mostly to adjust the controls).

i know they're not a first party developer and that you have to be more forgiving, but something went wrong when they made this game. so many of their priorities were misplaced, so much of their work was devoid of inspiration, and how much of that they can turn around at will remains to be seen. based on how much they're emulating call of duty, an already generic franchise, i'm skeptical to say the least.

this has been really negative, so i'll say that they got at least a few important things right and there's a lot of potential for the sequel to be a good game, much in the way that red steel 2 delivered what the first game failed to do. that wouldn't be the case if the fans hadn't demanded it; you have to hold developers accountable when they release mediocre games like this for their own sake as much as the players. high voltage may not have found themselves in the mess they're in now if they had just built the first conduit to the same standard they've been adopted for the sequel.
