No, but that's a good observation!

I noticed that it inherited the joystick design, but never saw how much they copied...

Yer if you place the Nunchuk in the middle of the GCN controller you nearly get the N64 controller. It shows how strangely consistent with controller design Nintendo have been.

The joystick on the N64 was garbage.

Agree to disagree. Strongly.

And, yes. I noticed that about a year ago, it's pretty interesting. I've also taken apart ever Nintendo controller through the years, and the insides look pretty much the same.

I don't have issues with the Nintendo 64 Control Stick.
It's just I can't believe I never noticed this before. I never even thought of comparison by design.

The surface on the N64 anolouge was terrible.

Yep the N64 joystick was a pretty shoddy design choice when you look at the inards of one.The plastic grinds away over time and eventually you need to replace the whole stick unit. I think the overall design they went for with the N64 was great though and obviously is still great today hence the similarity's.Ergonimcs don't change.Pesonally I thought the gamecube pad was close to perfection (cept' that damn Z button grrr and the shoulder buttons were a bit weird too) but I never tired of pressing that huuuge A button . For me now the perfect standard pad is the 360's it just fits perfect in my hands.

What's this bit for again?

StarBoy91

The thing about the Nintendo 64 controller is that it had three handles instead of the casual two.
Must've been a first.

i noticed that similarity the first day i had my Wii and held the nunchuk in my hand. the N64 controller was my favorite, even if the entire D-pad portion wasn't used much (if at all). I was glad to feel that same familiar shape in my hand again. :3

The Control Pad was used, dragon, for Fighter's Destiny. Other than that, I can't recall any other Nintendo 64 game that solely required the Control Pad.

@StarBoy: I was trying to say that depending on the game, it may or may not be necessary -- not that it had never been used ever. i know i don't recall ever having to use it much, lol.

i love the way it feels holding it... i HATE the way it feels using it. i can't stand the buttons..... too clicky... and too far apart. bleh.

on topic, though, i didn't notice the similarity until just a couple months ago, but i don't mind it. i, too, love the 64 controller, and like the versatility of it a lot. it stuffed 6 buttons on the face (along with 2 shoulder buttons) without feeling awkward... that's not easy, and the ability for a developer to choose between dpad and analog was great for variety in games.

I believe that Kirby 64 did not allow the use of the joy stick for control.

Sean007s

The WCW and WWF used ONLY the D-pad on the N64 pad and the Football games used both.
