Have the game, its amazing. One thing I'm a little worried about.... Within the first 3 levels I accrued 31 lives... I saved my progress and went to church. When I reloaded the game I was set back and default lives (4). I thought that was unheard of so I tried another level and got about 4 more lives (total 8). Saved my game. went to title screen, then to wii menu, reloaded game.... BACK to 4 lives...(keep in mind I am actually saving because it saves my progress through the levels).

Glitch? Game made that way? anyone else have this problem? This game will be really hard with 4 lives.

I'm pretty early in the game, I'm going to make a new save file and try that to see if it fixes the problem, in the mean time, who else is experiencing this? Thanks!

I'm pretty sure it's like that in most games, especially Mario ones. I can recall that Super Mario Sunshine has a similar system of that sort anyway. So, chances are that's just how the game was made.

The game doesn't start with how many lives you last had. None of the 3D games with lives do.

That's just how it is. Galaxy 1 didn't save your lives either.
.....
Neither did Sunshine or even Mario 64 for that matter.

Did the original Super Mario World save your lives? (The GBA port does...) If so it'd be the only Mario to do that in it's original release.

Scratch that the New Super Mario Bros. do too, but NSMB DS is a poor Mario game so it can be discounted:D

As previously stated the original Galaxy was the same. I remember going back and replaying levels to get more lives and when I came back to the game next time I had 4. No biggie as it is a fairly simple affair if you lose too many lives to go back and get a few more along the way.

Just like in the original. Probably just made that way. But people can send you lives from other files cant they?

That's just how it works. You're gonna have to grind for more lives on earlier stages if you want to try a level with tons of lives.

Super Mario World was the first one that allowed you to save your progress, and I'm pretty sure it included lives, however, it has been way too long. I do have it on my Wii, but that is too much trouble.

It always resets your lives. If you talk to the mail toad when you start the game you get a letter from Peach and some 1ups usually 5.

Ok cool... I do have Galaxy 1 and never noticed the reset of lives Lol... I believe super mario bros 3 also allowed you to save lives, and that game was excellent. Thank you for the responses! This game is more difficult, even the mushrooms run faster, a lot cooler mix of enemies per level.

Super Mario 3 didn't allow you to save anything

I don't like the fact that getting 1-ups are too easy.
sometimes I don't try to get more Lives, cuz i think 63 1-ups is too much.

For you, the day LordJumpMad graced your threads, was the most important day of your life. But for me, it was Tuesday.

Yes but isn't it like Mario64 where your lives dont save? Everytime you start the game you begin with 5 lives anyways. So ppl like me can have fun seeing how many lives I can get in an hour or something. (or just get 20 1-ups from toad mail)

Mario64, Mario Sunshine, Mario Galaxy 1 and now 2 have all done that. It used to bug me but I like it now.
