Do you read Japanese...? If not, how have you enjoyed all these games, especially since you comment on which ones had good stories?

No, I just know my way around translation patches, emulators, and ROMs.
I know that it's not quite what the game is supposed to be like, but it works in a pinch, or if the game is unlikely to ever come out in the States.

Yeah I realized you said story after I posted, but I've argued with people about it before, and they'll usually put up the "it's 20 years old" defence, so I just decided to leave it like I wrote it.

Fire Emblem 6 was quite good, but the ending was really cheap and the game just felt unpolished imo. Roy is WAY overpowered when he is given the Sword of Seals and he can actually kill the final boss, Idoun, in 2 hits, 1 if he criticals.

But he's a wimp without it, and it only has 20 uses.

@Digiki
Very true, but I still think that it's VERY unbalanced. I mean cmon. All of my best characters with all the legendary weapons like Forblaze, Aureola, etc. and it takes ALL of them to kill Idoun. Roy can do it all by himself.

Could you point me in the direction of some translation patches, please? Or at least tell me who made them so I can search for it myself?

I'm certainly not going to ask for the ROMs. I know enough forum protocol for that (and anyone can find the ROM), but patches are generally safer gray area. The Mother 3 patch is pretty well advertised and even been acknowledged by Reggie in interviews without once threatening suit.

I'd absolutely love to try some of the older FE's.

Well this is where I got my translation patches from here.
They have most of the FE games' translation patches there.

You will also need IPSWin2.0 to patch the ROMs. You can get that here.

You'll need to extract the files from the things you download, esp the ROMs and emus, but of course I can't tell you where to get those at.
If you get stuck or anything check around Google and Youtube for tutorials, cuz they're are plenty of em.

That's what happens when you have an 18 might sword, with a weight of 8, that inflicts double damage on dragons.
And that's before you take note that it has 1-2 range.

But still, couldn't they have toned down the power just a bit?
Ah well, it's not really worth making a statement about since it's kinda late to change it.

You're the man! Thanks!

Seriously, I must suck at Google if I never found a site that has a translation of every single Fire Emblem game, except the ones with official translations.

I hope they eventually get official translations, too. There's nothing quite like owning the real thing.

Quite true and you're welcome!

I only recently bought my Wii, probably a couple months ago now. Fire Emblem was one of the big things I was looking forward to on it, but I haven't actually been able to find it anywhere around where I live. I may end up ordering it online, but I figured I'd try to exhaust my local resources first. I loved the DS titles and am really looking forward to playing this one. It looks brilliant.

Manly Beast, I'm playing Fire Emblem Gaiden right now and I really love the old school feel. But the text often comes out as pure gobbledy gook. Is that normal? The translation is so horrible that it probably wouldn't be worth reading anyway, but I'm just curious if I did something wrong patching it.

Of course, I'm not complaining, either. It's enough to make it playable for an English-speaker, and NES story lines are never impressive to begin with. Anyway, did you try this one?

I haven't played that one. So yeah...
It IS normal for unfinished translation patches to appear that way. It's because the coding isn't fully done. So it's kinda bad in a way, but it's gonna stay that way until the patch is finished, if ever!
I know for a fact that Thracia 776's patch isn't fully done either. Geneology of the Holy Wars should be fine though. Binding Blade/Sword of Seals/Sealed Sword/Fire Emblem 6 is almost fully done too. The only thing not translated on FE6 is the opening scene before the title screen.

One of my favorite lines so far... Celica is trying to recruit Saber at a bar. Never met the guy before in her life, and she says:

You look unemployed.

I would love to work for someone who says that to me, haha.

While I thoroughly enjoy the console outings on the cube and Wii, I still prefer them on handhelds; I just think they're better suited for such. Since I'm only familiar with the western releases, my favorite is still the first Fire Emblem on the GBA. I wasn't too keen on Sacred Stones, and the Shadow Dragon remake is sort of middle of the road. The latter's antiquated plot and dialogue (seeing as it is a remake) don't help it much, although the game does provide for plenty of fun. I hope that the next entry will also include features that have been introduced in the GC/Wii games.

Along with the Advance Wars franchise Intelligent Systems has become one of my favorite developers. I just love a good turn-based strategy game, while excluding overly complicated depth yet still offering a fair amount of challenge.

How is the multiplayer in Shadow Dragon?

Quite good actually, IF you have good units however. Pretty much everyone online uses maxed out god characters, so be ready for that.
Against friends is fun, if you have any friends that have this game too...
I was kinda disappointed in FE: SD, because it seemed kinda half-assed. As Digiki said, many characters don't even have dialogue and you actually have to KILL your own people to get the Gaiden chapters. Pretty stupid if you ask me.

Gaiden chapters? Is there a remake of FE2 hidden in the game, too?

No. lol!
"Gaiden" means "side story" in Japanese, so these are just extra chapters in the game. FE2: Gaiden is a side story to FE1 for the NES. Also Gaiden anything, except Ninja Gaiden, really isn't considered story canon and is usually ignored for the telling of the main story.
